GRIZZLY GAZETTE 2011 Senior Edition Issue 10 June Issue Mothers’ Tea By: Amanda O’Neal “We never thought it was going to end, but we officially got here.” With the 2010-2011 school year wrapping up, the seniors had one of their most looked forward to events, Mother’s Tea. On May 4th the senior’s mothers, grandmothers, and aunt were greeted with valet parking. The rest of the afternoon consisted of refreshments and desserts, pictures, and a program in the Little Theatre. Once the students and their mothers arrived at the Little Theatre, a variety of students had acts for their moth- ers. A few students played the piano, danced, read stories and even read po- ems. The acts were very heartfelt, and you could hear the laughter and feel the emotion in the room. The May Court was announced at the event. The May Court King and Queen were Ben Erhart and Minna Kim. The other couples were, Madison Smith and Brad Dey, Jolee Zabiaka and Kyle James, Tyler Stanton and Kasey King, and Aaron Arias and Kari Kato. The program ended with a slideshow that brought tears to many eyes. The event was an overall success! Thank you to Mrs. Lanzo-Nielson for all the hard work you put into the occasion, and of course a huge thank you to the special women in the lives of the seniors in the class of 2011! Author Unknown

Mr. FantasticBy: Minna Kim

Annually, HHS holds an event equivalent to a “male” beauty pageant. Yes, you heard right… It’s a time to freely point and laugh while the senior men at Hoquiam High School take on evening wear, beachwear and perform a talent. With only the cost of $5, students were encouraged to come support their favorite contestant, and with nine students this year who par-ticipated, the competition was tough.Luke Barr, Brett Fioretti, Kyle James, Levi Dick, Josh Vermulen, Rees Sturm, Dylan Morgan, Tyler Stanton and Seth Hollen traded in their dignity to entertain the Little Theater full of guest this year, and Seth Hollen was crowned King, taking on the title as Mr. Fantastic himself. The men all worked hard and learned a dance in just a few days, the most uncoordi-nated dancer even successfully got a few laughs with his booty-shaking abilities, but to say Mr. Fantastic was a huge success would be an overstate-ment.

The technical diffi culties proved as the biggest challenge throughout the night. As the cheerleaders struggled to make it work, they apologize, but admit, the sound system was out of control! Yet, the men endured even the biggest obstacle and learned to not let it get in the way, fi ghting for the sash

and glory of being famed Mr. Fantas-tic.

In the end, Seth rose to the chal-lenge, but others were given various awards. Kyle James is proud to say he won over the crowd with his charm, enthusiastic in receiving “Audience Favorite.” Dylan Morgan was unaware of the title he was given, “Mr. Conge-niality,” but in receiving his sash, he bragged about earning a sash above all others.

The nine men were spotlighted for their talents and charisma they didn’t know they contained. If you were MIA for the event, it was a night fi lled with half-naked bodies, ridiculous dance moves and nerve-wrecking onstage questions. Each year, Mr. Fantastic is held the same night as Mother’s Tea. Don’t regret it next year and make sure to attend!

Mr. Fantastic
