The new building incorporates a number of sustainable features including:
• High efficiency heating and windows • Recycled content throughout • Recycling collection • Construction waste diversion • Low VOC floor and wall finishes
Groundbreaking for the new building took place on June 16, 2009 and the library opened to the public on August 24, 2010. The library is funded by a .35 millage
approved by Kentwood voters in August 2008.
We hope our library serves as not only a place of learning and leisure, but as a focal point of a wonderfully diverse community.
Many local companies used for construction and furnishings.

• Two stories with beautiful views of the Gerald R Ford Int’l Airport and 6,000 sq ft of window surface!
• The Cora Bowen Stauffer Kentwood Heritage Room on the second floor (named for the donor of the library property on Kalamazoo)
• Drive through drop box and 24 hour holds pickup lockers
• Computer Lab and 39 public Internet computers
• Designated teen area with media wall
• Eight private conference/study rooms available for use during library hours
• Second floor fireplace and outdoor patio
• Entrepreneurial Center for small business resources
• Partitioned community room for public rental and community programs with adaptive technology for the hearing impaired
• Landscaped 20,000 square feet performance and public courtyard accessible from the library and the community room (Courtyard and library artwork funded through generous donations to the Kentwood Foundation)
• Play! Grow! Read! early literacy area featuring a custom designed educational play structure funded by the Grand Rapids Community Foundation and the Friends of the Kentwood Branch Library and a children’s “Imagination Station” funded by the Meijer Corporation
