Andhra Pradesh 1.Rice – expected productivity (3200 kg/ha) which is more than 2009 by 312 kg/ha; prodn by 26.82 lakh tonnes[7 lakh ha more area than 2009]2.Total Pulses- expected productivity (464 kg/ha) which is more than 2009 by 146 kg/ha; prod by 2.96 lakh tonnes[0.50 lakh ha more area than 2009]3.Total oilseeds – Area 18.11 lakh ha (3.58 lakh ha more than 2009; expected productivity (857 kg/ha) which is more than 2009 by 425 kg/ha; prod also higher by 9.26 lakh tonnes.4.Cotton: - Increased area( by 2.35 lakh ha); prodn and yield increased by 12.64 & 74 kg/ha respectively.

Karnataka 1.Rice – Targetted area achieved; expected prodn is about 5 lakh ha more than previous year 2009; productivity is as such may be higher.2.Total Pulses- Area targetted realistic 13.5 lakh ha as against 13.70 in 2009 but expected higher of 6.37 lakh tonnes ( the target)- good climatic condition.3.Total oilseeds – Again a realistic Area targetted -16.0 lakh ha as against 16.5 in 2009 but increased prodn ( 11.6 lakh tonnes) expected i.e 0.67 lakh tonnes more than 2009. 4.Cotton: - Decreased area( by 0.40 lakh ha) but with higher prodn (9.18 lakh tonnes) targetted than 2009; prodn and yield increased by 12.64 & 74 kg/ha respectively.

Maharashtra 1.Cereals– Decrease in Targetted area by about 3% observed; but more area coverage than 2009; expected prodn is about 20 lakh ha more than previous year 2009; productivity is as such may be higher by about 500 kg/ha..2.Total Pulses- Higher productivity expected ( 816 kg/ha) from an increased Area targetted by about 6.oo lakh ha of 2009 but expected higher of 6.37 lakh tonnes ( the target)- good climatic condition.3.Total oilseeds – With no increase in Area targetted -34 lakh ha as compared to 2009 but increased prodn ( more than 14 lakh tonnes) expected with yiel increase from 748 to 1386 kg/ha. 4.Cotton: - Expected higher prodn ( by about 32 lakh tonnes9.18 lakh tonnes) from the increased area of 39.73 lakh ha that surpassed the targetted 35 lakh ha; Favourable climatic condition is the reason

Tamil Nadu 1.Cereals– Decrease from Targetted production expected ( by about 5 lakh tonnes); but in any case higher than previous year; however, higher production is expected from the Noth East Monsoon Season i.e. Rabi,2010; besides precision farming, rabi programme may augment. 2.Total Pulses- Higher productivity & production( 2 lakh tonnes) as compared to 2009 ( 0.7 lakh tonnes) expected from an increased Area targetted by about 5.oo lakh ha more than 2009 - good climatic condition.3.Total oilseeds – Enthusiastically increased area ( 5 lakh ha) targetted and higher production targetted ( 8.5 lakh tonnes) during the year.

Kerala 1.Rice– Reduced target but higher production ( by about 0.62 lakh tonnes) reaped during the year as compared to the previous year. Reason productivity increase due to imporoved management, water availability and better agronomic practices, incentives from RKVY and single district of NFSM etc are the reasons.

SPECIFIC ISSUES

Specific issuesState Issues

1. A.P. •Fertiliser- increased allocation of urea reqd. preferably local NFCL•Better logistic support from railways for fertilisert movement.

2. Karnataka •Threshold yield level in Commercial and Horti crops be earmarked as in field crops for Insurance under NAIS•Perennial Hoti crops be included under NAIS.•Exclusion of yield data of drought years is necessaery for a realistic programme/parameters.

3. T.Nadu • No specific issues; state is planning to implement the scemes of GOI more vigorously; precision farming is targetted.

4. Maharashtra

• Pest & disease surveillance need inclusion in the work plan of major crops•Local initiative & FFS components to be sanctioned for new NFSM-Pulses districts.

5. Kerala • Subsidy is appearing small in micro irrigation scheme; •Freedom to beneficiaries to buy units from any recognised dealers•Cofee crop to be included.

• The normal area coverage under SRI is about 10,000 ha in Andhra Pradesh

• It is contemplated to bring in about 25% of the area under tanks, wells and tail-end areas under SRI cultivation by end of XI plan

• State Pulses Development Mission is formulated with the objective of enhancing the area and productivity of pulses in rainfed areas to meet the requirement in the state by the end of XI plan

• During current kharif season the total area under pulses increased from a normal of 7.89 lakh ha to 10.39 lakh ha i.e. an additional area of 2.50 (32%)

• Redgram increased from 4.46 lakh ha to 6.34 lakh ha i.e. 1.88 lakh ha (42%)

• Greengram increased from 2.41 lakh ha to 2.96 lakh ha i.e. 0.55 lakh ha (23%)

• Blackgram increased from 0.82 lakh ha to 0.97 lakh ha i.e. 0.15 lakh ha (18%)
