Introduction
The purpose of the Group Fitness Instructor Training Program is to
train efficient Fitness Instructors by providing you the knowledge and
tools to properly run a group fitness class at West Chester University.
This training program presents you with specific skills and tips on how
to be the most effective Fitness Trainer you can possibly be! Not only is
the training program designed around performance, it also provides you
with the proper policies and procedures, as well as safety certifications
needed.
Training Objectives
Group Fitness Instructors should be able to do the following after the
completion of the Group Fitness Instructor Training Program:
- Maintain a positive attitude and keep students motivated
throughout the class by continually encouraging and interacting
with students, while following proper class procedures.
- Enforce important policies and procedures at the Recreation
Center in and outside of class, such as dress code, locking up,
substitution, absences, quitting, etc.
- Maintain requirements for being a West Chester Group Fitness
Instructor, such as being nationally certified, obtaining proper
safety certifications, and furthering education outside of the
program.

Specification of Content and Objectives Determined Group Fitness Instructor Objectives:
- Maintain positive attitude/motivate students - Follow important policies and procedures - Maintain requirements for being Group Fitness Instructor
Measurement of Entering Behaviors Identify skills and abilities needed to be a Group Fitness Instructor:
- Motivation techniques - Positive leadership skills - Nationally certification for particular class
Determination of Strategies, Organization of Groups, Allocation of Time and Space, and Selection of Resources
- Develop where and how to do training - How long training will take place - What resources are available that we can use for the training?
Evaluation and Feedback Group Fitness Instructors will be evaluated once a semester and given feedback. They will be evaluated on:
- Personal Appearance - Introduction to class
- Expertise of Specified Certification - Performance
