In June 1992, a horrific event occurred involving Babri Masjid which remains as a large imprint throughout the history of India.
1993 Bombay bombings were a series of 13 bomb explosions that took place in Bombay, India following a large amount of communal violence and bombings that occurred after the destruction of the Babri Masjid by extremist Hindu organizations.
The mass amount of bombings were due to problems which occurred between the Muslims and Hindus that were never resolved following the Babri Masjid event which led to the communal violence that erupted into a series of bombings.
In the end the bombings led up to the major event of the bombings of Bombay which destroyed the city and was the first major bombings any area had ever experienced which resulted in 250 fatalities and 700 injuries
“Black Friday: The True Story of the Bombay Blasts” by S Hussain Zaidi
focuses greatly on how all of the violence led to the bombings that occurred in large amounts in Bombay in 1993
main focus within the book is mainly the background of how everything came about
-which in our opinion is a great way to inform people and give them a background of the facts so they can better understand
the book largely on the motives behind the bombings and the people that led the bombings, along with the attempt to not just capture those responsible but to also bring down the entire “ organization,” that is behind it, which is what the book explains them as
-this is beneficial because not many resources go in depth as to who in particular was responsible for these events
the books goes into detail about the factors that led to this event and even poses the term “terrorists,” which much of the media surrounding had not done
the book brings up immense amounts of information that led to these mass bombings which we believe is very informative
-had someone gone to read the book that has never even heard of the incident, they would be completely informed not just of the incident but the events leading up to it as well, which is what the media should do when exposing an event
within the book, there is a setting that they describe when talking of the event, for example within the book they talk about the bombings by referring to them as “Black Friday” due to the large amounts of black smoke that occurred due to the bombings
-also gives the readers a better perspective of what the event was like and how this event had such a great impact on the people and area of Bombay
though the book does not contain any real life first accounts of the event, we do believe that it shows a broad prospective in which the people reading it can grasp a firm interpretation of the event that occurred, it also does not form opinions in which the readers are forced to think in one particular way, but rather simply informs them
Zaidi, S. Hussain. Black Friday: The True Story of the Bombay Bomb Blasts. Pengin Books, 2002.
While reading through these magazines about the Babri Masjid incident, it became evident that politics played a major role in this incident.
Also, while reading the articles within these magazines, it is shown that the media really can put a spin on anything that they write.
At the end of the day, the media produces what they want to produce.
Religious leaders helped point out that the historical facts of the Babri Masjid incident were actually distored.
Many people believe that the media has distorted the story and also distorted the facts of this incident.
This is why we really should research anything we read, because we don’t know what is true and what is false.
The media can have a positive effect on news, and it also can have a negative effect as well.
The impacts and effects of the virtual media
The violence in wake of Babri Masjid destruction that wracked the Indian cities would be unimaginable to many throughout the world because they did not experience it themselves. The world of television and film has had such a strong influence and impact on the world as far as telling the stories of the incident, as well as first-hand footage which betters everyones feelings and relationship to the situation
Footage during the actual bombings in March 1993 are appalling and horrific, but their raw form explain more than words in an article ever could. No one can document or respect the emotions of the population of India in times of distress. To see it first hand is a completely different form and creates deeper connections such as empathy and remorse. News footage from an Indian News Channel (http://www.youtube.com/-watch?v=7q0L6jTHeIc) seriously portrayed the visual evidence of the tragic violence which took place on such an ordinary day for most. By watching the people walk around the hotel, many can relate to how alarming and how terrible the sudden bomb blasts effect these lives of not only the community of the Indian people, but the world!

Set off chain of violence throughout urban areas, such as Delhi and Mumbai
The newspaper articles that I found covered both the original destruction of the Babri Mosque, as well as the riots and communal violence that erupted following it. I thought for the most part these articles
were fair and balanced, and were mostly facts not opinions
• Was an exception as it gave more of the author’s opinion
• Blames Prime Minister and rest of govt. for failing to intervene
• Author asks:– “Why were paramilitary forces not
deployed to protect the Babri Masjid when it was under imminent threat?”
– “Why did the State Government of Uttar Pradesh not intervene in any way?”
