Requirements for Database Design

Database Design Requirements1. To determine the data requirements, Read the case study:

Steps to Design and Build Database

1. Identify the Tables required2. Identify the relationship between Table based on the logic

in the case3. Create and draw the Entity-Relationship Diagram

• Remember Table is referred to an Entity in the diagram, So Table = Entity• Remember to resolve many to many relationships with a link table

4. Determine the attributes/fields for each entity/table5. Build Database in MS Access

• Microsoft Access Video Training

• Initial ERD- with many to many

• Final ERD- many to many resolved

Presentation Content and Structure

Presentation Content and Structure

•Title Slide• Module name• Presentation Title e.g. Network Design and Security for Atokowa• Group Name: • Group Members: Student Number | First name | Last name • Artwork

• Introduction• Outline purpose of the presentation • State what will be covered

•Database Basics• Define• Discuss the key concepts of a relational database

• Define Entity, attribute• Include image of a Table from a database (any example)• Define relationships- one to one, one to many, many to many

•Benefits of using Databases• List and discuss 5-7 benefits• Example: improve efficiency; improve co-ordination and reduce data duplication

•Requirements Analysis for Atokowa Database• List the key considerations• See case study for Transaction details (show in previous slides)

• Steps used to Design and Develop Database• List the 5 steps used

•Step 1- Tables• List the tables identified from case

•Step 2- The relationships• List the main relationships i.e. describe it using the key words

•Step 3- Entity Relationship Diagram• Include diagram of the 2 ERD’s drawn

•Step 4- Attributes/fields for each entity/table• List out the fields for each table• Could use a textbox for each

•Step 5- MS Access Database• Show screen shots of Relationships• Show screen shot of Tables with data

•Conclusion• Give an appropriate summary
