  • From Father Mark Mertes, Pastor:

Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge

before my heavenly Father. (Matthew 10:33)

Now that we are in Ordinary Time we re-turn to Chapter 10 of St. Matthew’s gospel. Jesus has just commissioned the Twelve to go out to the “lost sheep of Israel” and to “make this proclamation: ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’” He acknowledges that the world is a hostile place: “I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves.” Then comes today’s gospel, “Fear no one.” And he exhorts them that God who even takes care of the sparrows will take care of us: “Even all the hairs of your head are count-ed. So do not be afraid…” These days of the coronavirus pandemic changes are a rich time for grace. There is plenty to be afraid of! We are in a perfect spir-itual place to acknowledge the grace and pow-er of Christ. Granted, it doesn’t always feel very good. All of us, from greatest to least, from eldest to youngest, from richest to poor-est have been forced to take another look at our lives. “Normal” has disappeared. So often in the spiritual life God dismantles things so that He can put them back together in a yet more beautiful way. So to acknowledge Jesus today is to step out in faith in the midst of all these difficulties. To not be afraid about the unpaid bills. To do the right thing even if we are perse-

cuted for it. To proclaim that Christ has a plan even in

an uncertain job situation. To be brave and step out with the family to

Sunday Mass, observing the protocols that are being followed like wearing a mask and keeping our physical distance.

To wisely and appropriately get on with our lives, even as we adjust for changes. As Catholics we acknowledge that all will be revealed in God’s time and goodness.

So be bold! Share faith, live faith, be faith. For our part we are asked to step out and acknowledge Christ as Lord and guide and friend. It will make all the difference.

7th Annual Pitching for Priests Softball Game

Friday, July, 31 at 7 pm Community America

    Ballpark T-bones Stadium

*DUE to COVID 19 we will be limiting seating capacity to 2,000 people.

Last year we had about 3,000 people attend the game. We will be leaving every other row empty. If regulations change before the game we will re-lease more tickets for sale. We will provide up-dates regarding city requirements (masks, etc) closer to the date of the game. We will NOT have BASEBALL CARDS this year. We plan to bring baseball cards and t-shirts back next year! As soon as we get a game Roster for each team completed, we will send it out. If the game gets canceled because of COVID, we will refund tick-ets immediately. We will be keeping $3.50 per ticket for our lost expenses if the game is can-celed. For example, if you purchase two adult tick-ets for $30 and the game does not happen you will be refunded $23. Thank you for your under-standing and patience! Visit our site to purchase tickets, PitchingforPriests.com.
