UFM 500 (dual-beam)has several advantages of the dual-beamversion are: Multi-product measurement with
2 sensors. Sensors replaceable without interrupting
the process. Built-in redundancy for applications
in the oil industry, and measurementof hazardous liquids in the chemicalindustry.
Flow measurement is independent ofelectrical conductivity, viscosity, temperature, density and pressure.
The smooth surface and absence of intru-sive sensors and components, virtually ruleout deposits, pressure losses, and wear.
Requirements are sonic transmissivity, lowgas contents, and low solids contents inliquids.
Wide range of application Animals fats, butter oil, crude oil sludge,
demineralized water, diesel oil drinking water, gasoline, heavy oil hot water, hydraulic oil, kerosenes lube oil, naphtha, sewage and effluents sulphur (liquid), transformer oil vegetable oil, water/oil mixtures, wax, etc.
Calibrated on EN 45 001 certified calibration rigs, calibration accuracy betterthan 99.97% of the measured value.
The UFM 400/500’s unique sensor arrangement (patented) hasthese benefits:
Reduces overall flowmeter length
Increases measuring accuracy and repeatability
Eliminates need for gaskets
Allows sensor replacement under operating conditions
Sensor mount
From meter size ≥ DN 65 / ≥ 3” the sensors are built into specialmounts that are welded to the measuring tube perpendicular to thetube centerline. Gaskets are not required and the sensors are easy toreplace without involving elaborate adjustment or calibration work.
The double-beam version (≥ DN 65 / ≥ 3”) has sensors located atan angle of 120°. This arrangement (patented) has made it possible toshorten the overall length of the primary head.

The time-proven advantages of KROHNE ultrasonic flowmeters areall here: of course, been retained in full …
non-contact measuring system
no constriction of the pipe cross-section, no internals projectinginto the flow, and no additional pressure losses
product parameters such as electrical conductivity, density, viscosity, etc., have no effect on the measuring result
precise factory calibration by volumetric comparison in officially certified calibration rigs
integral system in IP 67 enclosure equivalent to NEMA 6
Standard equipment of signal converters
Microprocessor-controlled
Digital signal processing and sequence control
Current and pulse outputs for continuous flowrate measurementand totalizing, can also be used as status output or for measuringthe sound velocity time of the ultrasonic waves (for product identification, composition)
Forward/reverse flow measurements (F/R mode)
Low-flow cutoff
Safety first - protected terminals
Status output
UFC 500 signal converter
All operating data and parameters easy can be set locally fromthe display or remotely with a HART® hand held configurator
Simple plain text operator prompting in a choice of languages via local LCD display
Input and output of measured values and operating parameters in various physical units

Installation in the pipeline
Select location where the measuring tube is completely filled at all times, even at “zero” flow velocity.
On horizontal pipelines, make sure that the ultrasonic measuringsections are as horizontal as possible.
Pipe flanges faces must be parallel to each other; also, ensurethat the primary head is installed in line with the pipe axis.
Protective ground conductor, measuring groundThe flowmeter is normally grounded via the protective ground conductor PE (FE functional grounding for DC operation) incorporated in the power supply cable.Connect the protective conductor to the U-clamp terminal in the terminal box of the signal converter.NOTE: For the “remote” systems and for DC voltage operation, additionally connect a remote functional ground FE to the primaryhead.
Pipeline along a wall: where possible, distance between pipe centerline and wall to be > 0.5 m / 1.6 ft for UFM 500 K integralflowmeters; if less, first connect all cables to terminals in connec-tion compartment (power supply and outputs) and install an inter-mediate connection box before installing flowmeter in the pipeline.
Gas content of liquid product: max. 1% by vol. under operatingconditions.NOTE: Even in products that are virtually gas-free, large quantitiesof gas may form if the product is allowed to expand before reachingthe measuring point, e.g. down-stream of partially closed valves orsmall pump outlets!
