Grundfos E-CIRCULATORS

FOR OPTIMIZING PUMPING SYSTEM DESIGN

TPE AND LME

Grundfos E-Circulators

TPE and LME

Grundfos is one of the world’s leading suppliers of pump

technology, and therefore has a major influence on the levels of

manufacturing standards and operating efficiency that can be

achieved with pumps. These provide customers with efficient,

reliable solutions throughout the entire spectrum of heating and

air-conditioning systems, and in the transfer of fluids used in

industrial processes.

Reliability and efficiency

Grundfos solutions meet – and often surpass – virtually all

customer requirements in this field, from pumps and pump

configurations that extend over the entire size range, to the

control systems and software. These are backed by the Grundfos

service and support essential for peak reliability and efficiency.

The energy difference

Energy costs represent a major component of an in-line pump’s

Life Cycle Costs. The Grundfos E-Circulator provides the best

possible opportunities for implementing electronic speed control,

which keeps the energy consumption of E-Circulator pumps to

an absolute minimum.

The kind of key technical improvements that are only available

from a company like Grundfos, with a specialist staff of 450 people

working solely on R&D and product development, means reliability

and efficiency that set new standards for in-line pumps.

The new Grundfos In-Line pump – TPE Series 2000

Shifting the curve on efficiency

Grundfos focuses intensely on the overall efficiency of all its

pump designs. With the technology capacity and R&D facilities

only available to one of the world’s leading manufacturers in this

field, Grundfos is able to optimize the design, manufacture and

operation of both pump and motor, and every component ele-

ment of both. The Grundfos E-Circulator range features a series of

improvements that are individually significant and jointly decisive

in boosting the efficiency and reliability of the installations that

Grundfos customers are responsible for.

Grundfos TP

– exceptional

reliability

Grundfos E-Circulator pumps are world-renowned for their

exceptional durability and long-term reliability. The clear-cut

Grundfos reliability advantage provides both installers and end-

users with major benefits and cost savings.

Exceptional manufacturing standards

• Grundfos manufacturing facilities throughout the world are

certified to ISO 9000 standard or higher. Grundfos pumps are

therefore exhaustively checked and tested prior to dispatch,

and all manufacturing data is fully accessible.

• Components are machined using the most advanced CNC

machinery currently available. This ensures complete uni-

formity.

• Sourcing components from rigorously evaluated specialist

suppliers.

Exceptional design

• An exceptionally rigid construction in which the coupling and

shaft of the pump are friction-welded together to provide

an extremely stable, mechanical unit with reduced vibration

and friction. This reduces wear on the bearings and on the

mechanical shaft seal, increasing both efficiency and opera-

tional reliability.

• The very rigid shaft and coupling design means that the

shaft seal works more efficiently, and vibration and wear are

reduced to an absolute minimum. This also ensures longer

service life for the motor bearings.

• Use of reduced tolerances for the distance between the

impeller and the pump casing eliminates irregular movement

and backflow is minimized. This means greater efficiency and

lower energy consumption.

The impeller of the Grundfos TP inline is balanced in much the

same way as the wheels of a car to ensure as stable and smooth

an operation as possible

The reduced distance between the impeller and the pump casing

means that irregular movements are eliminated. While back-flow

in the system is minimized this means higher efficiency and less

energy consumption

pumps means optimal solution

– in any system

The two series: Series 2000 and Series 1000

We offer two series of speed-controlled In-Line pumps, each

series comprises of a wide range of products. The Series 2000,

which is pre-defined to continuously regulate pressure ac-

cording to flow, and the Series 1000, which allows for any con-

figuration and control method required: constant pressure,

proportional pressure, temperature control or constant flow.

The Series 1000 pumps have options for selecting any configuration and control method required: i.e. constant pressure, proportional pressure, temperature or flow control. The configuration can be defined to suit any specific operating conditions and can equally be amended to allow for ongoing changes.

Proportional pressure Constant flow Temperature control

This eliminates the need for any initial programming, thus making the installation process extremely easy and straightforward.

The Series 2000 pumps are pre-configured to regulate the pressure continually in accordance with flow - through an built-in sensor.

The electronic speed control concept

The idea behind speed control is to integrate all electronic

components that makes each pump automatically adapt

output to current conditions, thus ensuring that energy

consumption will always be kept to a minimum. By automatically

controlling its own speed, the pump will continuously regulate

the pressure (head) so that it is optimally adapted to system

conditions.

Reducing energy by adapting to day to day

and seasonal changes

With this continuous adjustment to flow, the loss of en-

ergy that relates to changes in consumption throughout day

to day and seasonal operation is eliminated. This ensures

reliability of supply and a high degree of comfort.

The easily installed all-in-one solution

Grundfos speed-controlled In-Line pumps up to 1.5 HP in size

come with a built-in motor, frequency converter and the

necessary application software to achieve an all-in one

solution. In addition to ensuring optimum adaptation in flow, and

thus energy savings, the installation costs and the risks of errors

are reduced as these components are dedicated to each other and

already integrated.

Optimized flow geometry

Using special 3D simulations and computer calculations, Grundfos

has fine-tuned the flow geometries of both the impeller and the

pump casing to ensure maximum compatibility between these

two key components. The Grundfos TP design means that the

pumped liquid flows through the pump with only a minimum of

aquadynamic disturbances to influence energy consumption, and

only a minimum backflow.

EFF1 motors mean

significant energy

and maintenance savings

EU-classified low-energy motors: EFF1

All Grundfos In-Line pumps are now designed with EFF1 motors,

which are classified as the most efficient motor type (i.e. with

the lowest energy consumption). Together with the hydraulic

improvements, the motors contribute to making Grundfos In-

Line pumps the most efficient and reliable in the market – as seen

across a wide range of applications. This means higher efficiency

than conventional motors – especially during partial-load

operation, which is almost always the norm within in a pump

system.

Lower heat generation – smaller ventilators

The high level of efficiency means reduced heat generation and

therefore a lower cooling requirement in the motor, which in turn

means that a smaller ventilator is required.

Low noise level – long life of bearings

With the fitting of a smaller ventilator, the noise level is reduced.

At the same time, the motor bearings benefit from the low

operating temperature, thereby prolonging their service life.

Long lubrication intervals

With the reduced heat generation, the motor requires less

frequent lubrication. This saves both time and money in the

maintenance budget.

Simple and accurate adaptation of motor output

Grundfos EFF1 motors are stocked as standard product, this

allows Grundfos to easily adapt motors to suit the conditions of

any system. For example, in air-conditioning or cooling systems

using glycol, where extra motor power is required to circulate

more viscous liquid.

Payback time of less than two years

Grundfos electronic speed control systems minimize energy

consumption. Because energy costs exert a huge incluence on

the Life Cycle Costs of a pump. there is usually a payback time

of as little as 1–2 years on the extra cost of a speed-controlled

pump system. Such solutions can often provide energy savings

of as much as 60–70%.

electricity consumption relates

to pump systems. 30–50% of

this energy could be saved.

Assumptions behind the calculation

System 1 features 2 constant-speed pumps (2 Grundfos end-

suction pumps).

System 2 features 3 speed-controlled pumps (3 Grundfos E-

Circulator pumps).

Depending on energy costs, the payback time on the extra cost of

electronic speed-controlled pumps is extremely short - normally

in the region of as little as 18 months. Given a cost of USD $0.1

per kWh, it normally amounts to approx. 1.7 years.
