when some of the globe’s finest footballers are batt-ling it out for the title of Champions of the world, the meticulously kept green fields all over Brazil have an underlying common denominator: Grundfos pumps.

In all 12 stadiums, a bundle of Grundfos field irrigation systems are installed. Grundfos were chosen because the designers and constructors need reliable solutions they trust and expert service, assistance and advice in the early construction stage.

Boosting irrigation The Grundfos pressure booster solutions in all 12 stadiums in Brazil secure a reliable supply of water and even watering of the sensitive fields.

Furthermore, the solutions automatically adapt to changing conditions and needs making it a lot easier for the operator to set up the system.

One example is the Grundfos pressure booster system, hydro Solo-E. The complete solution identifies varia-tions in water flow, allowing the pump to continuously regulate speed while maintaining the desired constant water pressure and constant flow. This helps extend the life span of the pump, decreasing energy con-sumption and reducing maintenance costs.

Nine stadiums chose Hydro Solo ENine stadiums in Brazil had 2 Grundfos hydro Solo E CRE 15-4 pumps installed to guarantee reliable and energy-efficient field irrigation.

The Maracanã Stadium hosted the final in 1950 and will do so again this year when the decisive match takes place here. And when the eyes of the world are looking at the venue, an arsenal of Grundfos pumps guarantee a steady supply of running water all over the stadium and ensure that the grass is green and ready for the big match.

Water guaranteeThe Grundfos solution became part of the plan as early as in the design phase. Stable pressure and flow rates were to be achieved using rooftop tanks and reusing restroom water. It was a priority to choose energy efficiency and to find a solution which could work in a constrained space, and Grundfos’ booster systems met all these criteria.

Full-scale providerhowever, our presence at the stadium does not stop with the boosters. In close cooperation with the engi-neering company and the contractor who refurbished the stadium, all pumps and solutions at the stadium were supplied by Grundfos.

The fact that Grundfos was able to supply complete, high-quality water solutions for all systems was a decisive factor when the customer chose our solutions for the water supply, wastewater, field irrigation, air conditioning and fire fighting systems.

Expertise and service are essential In a large venture of this type, time really is of the essence. A single problem can delay the entire working process and is often extremely costly. Therefore, high-quality products, support from pump experts in the design phase and an efficient service organization are essential for designers and contractors.

Abundance of sunshineRecife lies not far south of the Equator and is bathed in sunshine for most of the year. The abundance of sunshine makes it possible for the stadium to operate its own solar plant helping to provide much of the power it needs.

Focus on energy efficiencyTo further reduce Arena Pernambuco’s need for additional energy supplies from the grid, the focus from day one was on energy-efficient solutions.

The Grundfos team designed a solution that offered energy-efficiency second to none but also focused on problem-free control.

The booster and fire fighting systems are integrated into the supervisory system, giving the operators greater control of the day-to-day operation, making the complete system much more reliable. As a result, Grundfos was the obvious choice when selecting pump solutions for the water supply, fire fighting and hvAC systems.

Expandable stadiumThe stadium in São Paulo has a capacity of 68,807 seats. To meet the requirements of a minimum capacity of 65,000 for the opening match, the owners have installed removable structures to increase the capacity by another 20,000 seats.

Grundfos has supplied every pump for the arena, including complete systems for boosting, fire fighting, air-conditioning, and irrigation. The specifier chose Grundfos based on hard evidence of the required flow rates.

Testing the flowwhen the designer considered a different pump solution, the Grundfos team conducted tests that proved to the customer that the Grundfos boosters were unique in being able to reach the required flow rates.

Technical credibilityGrundfos supplied pumps for all systems in the impressive new stadium – not only based on the facts of the pump tests, but also on the high technical credibility and support of the Grundfos team.

Caring for the fragile environmentThe stadium’s location so close to nature prompted careful consideration for the environment during the design phase. Focus was always on sustainable systems; for instance, rainwater is captured and reused to water the pitch or supply the restrooms.

Pump systems to be relied onAs Manaus is located in a remote area, reliable pumps and controls were a key decision issue when deciding the supplier. Extended downtime and having to pro-vide frequent technical assistance to the rainforest arena were never an option.

Based on a very good reputation in the business, Grundfos was invited by the contractor to provide a recommendation for the hydraulic design of the water supply systems.

The Grundfos designAt meetings with the contractor’s engineering team, the Grundfos team was able to identify specificinsecurities in the hydraulic design.

Together, the two teams went over the design ideas and their inconsistencies. No agreements were made until the contractor’s team was comfortable and understood the proposals.

Based on the cooperation, the Grundfos team put together a very consistent proposal where everything, from pumps to submersible pump controllers, was included. working as one team and making decisions together developed trust and gave the contractor confidence in Grundfos’ ability to follow through.

One supplierGrundfos supplied all pump solutions for the Arena Amazõnia. This includes pressure booster systems, sewage pumps, drainage pumps, fire fighting systems, irrigation pumps and water heating pumps, along with the electrical panels for all the submersible pumps. As a part of the agreement, Grundfos also assisted in the trouble-free start-up of the hydro MPC solution.

The design of Dunas Stadium is intended to mimic the region’s iconic sand dunes. The stadium’s shell-like structure shields spectators from the sun but keeps the ground well ventilated by the onshore breeze.

Innovative solutionsIn close cooperation with the designers, the contractor and the installer, the Grundfos team recommended pump solutions for all systems in the new stadium. Except for the air conditioning system, the complete Grundfos proposal was accepted, and only a few months later the innovative Grundfos solutions were performing perfectly in the new stadium.

Matching the customer’s needsThe Grundfos team frequently visited the customer to understand the exact challenges. Based on the insights gained during these visits, the team was in a good position to match specific products with the customer’s exact needs and design a solution tailored specifically to their requirements.

The stadium’s new roof is considered its crowning glory, as it is aesthetically pleasing and also covers the stands, ramps and turnstile areas. The construction project has been divided into different phases, the idea being to enable continued used during refurbishment, at the end of which the Beira-Rio will have a capacity of 48,849.

Much more than a pressure boosting supplierwhen Grundfos first entered the Beira-Rio Stadium refurbishment project the client had decided that Grundfos would be the ideal pressure boosting supplier. however, through meetings with the designer and key decision makers, the Grundfos team illustrated the benefits of a one pump supplier deal.

Based on a strong local presence and good relations with the local distributor and service partner, the Grundfos team supplied the designer with pump related design proposals. On the basis of this work and

the positive reputation of the Grundfos brand and reliable products in the industry, the client chose Grundfos solutions.

Reusing precious waterGrundfos supplied two pressure booster systems for drinking water and four systems for water reuse. The collected water is reused in restrooms and for irriga-tion. Because the booster sets automatically adapt to the immediate demand, the Grundfos solution guaran-tees sufficient pressure anywhere in the enormous stadium at the lowest possible cost.

In 2009, the Arena da Baixada was selected as one of the 2014 tournament venues. Despite having been re-opened only a decade earlier, the stadium had to undergo a thorough redevelopment to comply with tournament requirements. Among the improvements are extra pitch side seats to boost attendance, but plans for a retractable roof have been abandoned in order to ensure that it would be ready in time for the big kickoff.

Expertise and reputation are vitalGetting specified and convincing the customer of the quality of your product, support and service offerings can mean winning not just one but several orders. The customer chose Grundfos because of the designer’s recommendation, and because we supplied pumps and pumping systems for most of the other arenas.

when the world turns its eyes to Brazil for the championships, it is essential that everything runs smoothly.

Designers and the client’s technical teams want pump suppliers and solutions they are comfortable with. Most of our Brazilian customers know Grundfos’ high-quality solutions from experience or from our positive reputation in the industry – and combined with the expert assistance we offer, choosing Grundfos is often considered the safe choice.

ThE BEAUTIFUL NORTh-EASTERN SEASIDE TOwN IS ThE hOME OF CasTElão sTadiuM, whICh MEANS “BIG CASTLE” IN PORTUGUESE.

Castelão Stadium is arguably one of the most beautiful Brazilian arenas. with the many new upgrades including a new roof that will shelter fans from the heat, improved public transportation to the venue and state-of-the-art technical systems, the stadium is completely up to date.

First to be readyhowever, despite extensive refurbishments, Castelao Sta-dium was also the first of Brazil’s stadiums to be confirmed as ready for the event. And Grundfos pump solutions were installed in all systems.

Assistance is essentialBecause the stadium went through a complete retrofit, Grundfos supplied pumps and panels for the fire fighting

system, a booster set to guarantee sufficient water pressure, and the pump solution for the field irrigation system.

In the end, Grundfos’ proven expertise within fire fighting and pressure boosting systems was decisive for the key deci-sion makers. The expertise of the Grundfos team and the promise of complete support and assistance throughout the design process meant that Grundfos won the project. It also meant that the Grundfos team was more closely involved in the selection of solutions.

The result is that football fans from all over the world will be able to experience this remarkable renovated stadium where the systems are up to date and optimised for the task ahead.
