Wharfs -The undersides of wharfs areanaggressiveunwashedenvironment.Gseal isan effectivebarrier tosalt,chloride ionsandmoisture vapour.n Where therearecombinations ofwood decking onsteel, orconcrete deckingon steel,Goldseal willprotecttheconcrete fromspalling, thesteel fromoxidising andfillthejoin cavitiesbetween thetwo, with a flexible sealthatwill notcrack or peel.n Gseal can be applieddownto water level.Thecoatinghas a penetration phase thatsoaksintothephysical structureof steeland concrete. BargeInteriorsandCondensationvoids in SteelVesselsExperience inthis category20 years+.

Many bargesor oldervessels were assembledfromsteel with onlya holding primer.Although theinterior isarelatively closedenvironment there isusually a buildup of contaminantsin thebilge which slowlycorrodesthe interior.As withmany closed steelenvironmentscorrosiongoes unnoticeduntil itappears through thehull fromthe inside out.

Recommendation:n Clean the bilge andcontaminated areas.n Remove scale.n Coat thewhole interior with Gseal.
