BackgroundProblem:

All states must meet the Clean Water Act’s standards for pollution discharge. Woodinville, WA regularly monitors three of its creels (Little Bear Creek, Woodin Creek, and Derby Creek) to determine pollution levels.

Fecal coliform levels are far above the Washington Administrative Code standards in multiple creeks and streams across Woodinville, while nitrate, lead and zinc levels were within the WAC limits.

Research question: Where are the areas that have the highest potential to cause pollutants to flow

into streams in Woodinville?

● These methods suit the target areas since they work very well with residential areas, and/or can easily be implemented along the banks of a stream.

ConclusionHighest potential areas are close to the Bothell and Woodinville city boundaries. These cities should work together to implement GSI methods that we have suggested.

Since area is relatively small, the most effective approach might be to educate the residents/landowners in these areas and use a community approach to help protect the rivers and streams.

*Higher quality vegetation on creek banks helps to lower water temperatures and filter pollutants in surface water runoff.

The Sammamish River and Little Bear Creek cross paths with the highest potential areas.

RecommendationsMake sure every group members understand the data (metadata)

Next step would be to add in Sewer and Stormwater pipe systems, which would add the ability to find likely point-sources of pollutants.
