THE GIrL SCOUT

LAwI will do my best to be:

honest and fair; friendly and helpful; considerate and caring;courageous and strong,

and responsible for what I say and do,and to respect myself and others;

respect authority;use resources wisely;

make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Girls, we encourage you to explore the listings in this booklet, making note of the events, series and camp opportunities that spark your interest. You do not have to belong to a troop to participate. If you are in a troop, you can still participate, even if your fellow troop members are not available or interested in a particular activity. All of our events are open to girls regardless of whether or not they are currently registered with a troop. Note the special Individual Girl Registration form on page 42.

Troop Leaders, there is still plenty for you to share with the girls. Girl Scout Birthday Parties and more await your troop. Remember to use the Program Registration form on page 40.

Finally, we ask everyone who is reading this message to share it with the girls and families in your life. There are some amazing experiences awaiting the girls of Southeastern Michigan, help us spread the word!

GIrL SCOUT PrOCESSESGirl-led means that girls are playing an active part in figuring out the “what, where, when, how, and why” of their activities. The girl-led approach to ideas and activities ensures that girls are engaged in their learning and experience leadership and decision-making opportunities as they prepare to become active participants in their local and global communities.

Learning by Doing is a “hands-on” learning process that engages girls in continuous cycles of ac-tion and reflection resulting in deeper understanding of concepts and mastery of practical skills. It is important for girls to be able to connect these experiences to their lives and apply what they have learned to their future experiences.

Cooperative Learning takes place when all members of a group are working together towards a common goal. All-girl environments encourage girls to feel powerful, emotionally and physically safe, and to experience a sense of belonging even in the most diverse groups.

DISCOVERING, CONNECTING AND TAkING ACTION is different for Girl Scout Brownies and Girl Scout Seniors. Below are the 15 outcomes or signs that let you know if girls at each grade level are achieving leadership skills. Checking the outcomes is like noting road signs on a journey — the signs that let you know you’re getting closer to your destination.

In a strategic learning organization, we continually measure these outcomes and survey our girls and volunteers.

The Tumblebus is a mobile gym for kids offering an opportunity to learn basic tumbling skills through our unique and fun fitness program.

Childhood obesitycontinues to be a great concern for parents, teachers and our community.

How can your Daisy, Brownie or Cub Scout Troop earn a Tumblebus Tumbling Patch?You can promote fitness to the children in your troop by scheduling an event with us. The tumblebus program “gets kids moving.”

We will provide the activities on the tumblebus, a craft and lesson on fitness and health. Fees are based on number of children and location.
