Preface Gotech Testing Machines Co., Ltd. warrants for twelve months from the date of shipment (excluding consumable components and travel expense). This GOTECH instrument has passed our inspection and tests, and it is free from defects in materials and workmanship. Please read our instructions carefully and thoroughly before operating this equipment to avoid unnecessary injuries and damage. This warranty is lieu of any other warranty expressed or implied. In no event will GOTECH be liable for special or consequential damages as a result of any alleged breach of the warranty provision. GOTECH reserves the right to make changes and improvements in its products without obligation to install these changes in products theretofore manufactured. Parts or components, which have been subject to abuse, misuse, accident, alteration, neglect, unauthorized repair or installation, are not covered by this warranty. GOTECH shall have the right of final determination as to the existence and cause of the defect. Please keep this warranty properly. If lost, please contact our customer service department for a new one within one month. This warranty will be null and void without GOTECH stamp or if it has been altered. Note: All rights reserved. Note: l Since the load transducer is a high accurate sensor, a hit and or a collision will cause

a serious damage. (It can’t be fixed) Therefore, it’s not a warranty item. Be careful during testing.

l When moving the tester, don’t hold the grips. When moving instruments (forklift, hanging rope…), don’t hit the grips to prevent them from damaging the load transducer.

l Every time you turn on the power, check if the upper and lower protection devices are in proper position and the set buttons are screwed tightly. If not, reset them properly to prevent the grips from hitting each other and damaging the load transducer.

l If you are not skillful or unexperienced, it’s easy to hit and damage the load transducer during calibration.

l If the load transducer is transformed, hit, dented, breached, overloaded, broken because of moving, operating, or calibrating carelessly, it’s not within the warranty.

I. Scope A. Application:

l The tester is used for measuring the pressure strength of cartons, containers, and etc. B. Principle: l The tester adopts holding load technique to determine the pressure-resistance and strike-endurance

of packing materials in transporting or piling. l This tester equipped with a highly precise load transducer. The computer will analyze the resistance

value and display on the screen.

II. Referenced document

l The design of this equipment is in accordance with TAPPI-804, JIS-Z0212, and GB/T 4857.4.

III. Tester A. Structure (Figure 1): ※ The following figure is for your reference only. The appearance and accessories will be

different according to the orders.

1. Suspension of upper compression plate: Use the four sets of suspension to keep the upper compression plate’s balance and the leveling between two compression plates.

2. Crosshead: Connect to the screw and the upper compression plate. 3. Upper compression plate: It’s driven by the crosshead to move downward to compress the

specimen during testing. 4. Lower compression plate: The specimen is placed onto it, and four load transducers are mounted

under its four edges respectively. 5. Level screw: Adjust it to level the tester. 6. Screw: The motor drives the crosshead to move upward through it. 7. Protection devices of upper compression plate: The motor will stop when the upper compression

plate reaches the upper or lower protection devices. 8. Remote control (optional): Control the movement of upper compression plate (upward/downward). 9. Computer system: Control the test and indicate test results. 10. Power switch for the tester: Turn on/off the system power. 11. Caster: Equipped on computer table; can be locked. 12. Load transducer: Detect the force signal and transmit it to computer for analysis.

B. Remote control (optional, figure 2):

Description for buttons: 1. SPEED ADJUSTOR: Rotate the wheel to move the crosshead upward (clockwise) or downward

(counterclockwise). Rotate the wheel faster, the crosshead moves faster; rotate the wheel slower, the crosshead moves slower.

2. Up/Down button: Press and hold this button and rotate the SPEED ADJUSTOR (counterclockwise: speed down; clockwise: speed up). The crosshead will move by the adjusted speed. (After adjusting the speed, release the SPEED ADJUSTOR.)

3. TEST: Press this button, and the program will enter test screen and the tester will start. 4. ABORT: Press this button, and the motor and the crosshead will stop. 5. HOLD: Press this button during the test, and the crosshead will keep moving, but the testing curve

will stop moving. Until pressing it again, the force curve will keep moving. 6. Modulus: Press this button during the test, and the force value will be saved and printed in the report.

(Add this item to the report first.) 7. OK: Confirmation button. 8. CANCEL: Cancel button. ※ Remote control is very sensitive. When adjusting the space between the compression plates,

please be careful about the motor’s speed and the moving direction.

IV. Installation

A. Power: Based on the input power on the nameplate, plug the power cord into the correct power

source.

Danger ■ The tolerance of the input voltage shall be within±10%. Make sure that the

tester is grounded correctly to avoid any human hazard caused by current

leakage of the tester. B. Environment: Temperature at (23 ± 2 ℃) Relative Humidity (60 ± 5 %)

C. Movement and installation:

1. Install this tester on a firm and level ground without flood and sprinkle. 2. When moving the tester, don’t hang from the upper compression plate. Hang form the two sides of

the crosshead to move it. 3. Adjust four level screws to level the tester. 4. Connect the computer system with the tester. Use USB cable to connect the USB ports of U60

amplifier and the computer. 5. Connect the connectors of limit switch and the power cord to the computer desk.

V. Operation Procedure A. Upper and lower protection devices (see figure 3): 1. Functions:

A. Prevent the upper compression plate from hitting and damaging the load transducer when the upper compression plate is moving downward.

B. The upper compression plate stops immediately if only the trigger of the upper compression plate contacts with the upper or lower set button.

C. Set the clamping length of the specimen between the upper and lower compression plates. D. Prevent the crosshead from being stuck on the screw as it moves up to the end.

2. Lock the upper and lower fixed blocks in proper place. 3. Set the upper set button in position where the upper compression plate moves down and touches the

upper side of the specimen. Moreover, the specimen shall be free from tension when clamping. Set the lower set button in position where the two compression plates won’t collide.

4. Unscrew the nut of the upper or lower set button to move the corresponding set button to the required position. Lock it then.

Warning ■The upper and lower fixed blocks have been set before delivery. Do not change if unnecessary. ■The upper and lower set buttons shall be locked completely in order to avoid slipping and damaging the load transducer or prevent the crosshead from being stuck on the screw. ■After setup, check if the upper and lower protection devices work well.

B. Procedure: ※ Refer to U60 operation manual for computer system. 1. Turn on system power and computer. 2. Move the upper compression plate to the proper test position for easily placing the specimen. 3. Set the upper and lower limit set buttons in the appropriate positions to make the upper compression

plate’s movement be restricted by a safe range. 4. Place the specimen onto the lower compression plate. Have the center of the specimen aimed at the

center of lower compression plate to keep testing accurately and avoid damaging the load transducer. 5. Enter computer system and set the test conditions. Then, start testing to compress the specimen. 6. The computer displays the compression force through entire testing till the specimen breaks. At the

same time, the motor will stop automatically and all the test values such as maximum pressure-resistance, transformation degree, and etc., based on your setting, are ready for analysis.

VI. Calibration Procedure A. Items: Load & stroke B. Tools: Force calibrator & caliper C. Period: One year D. Procedure: 1. Load calibration:

Caution ■ The load calibration should be performed by our service department or the

institute authorized by the country. If you calibrate yourselves and cause quality problem, we won’t take any responsibility.

2. Stroke calibration: 2.1 Move the upper compression plate to a certain place, and check the value on the scale where the

trigger aims at. 2.2 Press Up or Down button, and the upper compression plate will move a distance and stop. 2.3 Observe the difference between the stroke value on the scale and the value on the computer.

Calculate the error.

Caution ■ If the errors of the above two items exceed the allowable tolerance during

calibration (refer to checking report), please contact our customer service department.

VII. Maintenance Procedure 1. Keep the machine clean. Lubricate screws, bearing and worm periodically. 2. Never place heavy articles on upper compression plate to prevent affecting the leveling and to

prevent the load transducer from damage. 3. It’s available to take off the black protection covers of the screws for lubricating them periodically. 4. Do not arbitrarily adjust the four sets of suspension of upper compression plate to avoid affecting the

leveling between the upper and the lower compression plates. 5. Spray rustproof oil to the anodized parts periodically.

VIII. Troubleshooting Conditions Possible Reasons Suggestion

IX. Quality Assurance

A. Warranty items: We offer one year’s free after service (exclude consumables and Load Transducers) since the shipment from our factory.

B. Certificate of the free service: When there are disputes on the warranty items, base on the warranty card for the service.

*1. Please keep warrant card properly. If lose it, please contact us within one month. *2. If the above card lacks of our company stamp in it and or is changed privately by the customer,

it’s non-available. C. When to encounter the following conditions and cause the damages, user still needs to pay for a

proper expense for spare parts and technique service. 1.Owing to natural disasters. 2.Due to a personal mistake and or negligence in operation. 3.Apply the incorrect input power. 4.Perform troubleshooting by users their own accord. 5.Lend the tester to the third party. 6.Modify the tester by users their own accord. 7.Users themselves perform the calibration for the tester. 8.FAULT during transfer and transportation. 9.For a long distance service.

D. Note items: If the customers transfer/deliver our testers, original used in Taiwan area, to the other territories. Whether in the valid warranty period or not, customers should pay for our technician’s commuting expenses, accommodation fee and daily allowance.
