Airports and air services have a decisive influence on tourism development.
In modern Europe, regions, similarly to enterprises carrying out activities
under market economy conditions, are placed in a strongly competitive
environment. Regions have to compete with each other for capital inflow,
enhanced accessibility for tourists, increased life standards, development of
infrastructure or lowered unemployment. In practical terms, there has been no
case ever of a successful region without a well-functioning airport. Research shows that up to 30% of entrepreneurs performing their
activities in regions that have an airport at their disposal point to satisfactory air connections as the decisive factor for the selection of investment
location. Therefore, it is not a coincidence that the Katowice Special Economic
Zone may take advantage of the highest capital level attracted among all the
zones of this type established in Poland.
