GENERAL INFORMATION MISSION STATEMENT

To inspire and enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring community members.

MEMBERSHIP POLICIES The Boys & Girls Club of Portage County is open for membership to any child regardless of race, color, creed, or economic circumstances. The Boys & Girls Club annual membership is $10 per child or $25 for family which expires December 31st. To become a Club member, please fill out our membership application, which you can find at any of our Club site locations or on our webpage www.bgclubpc.org. You may turn in a completed membership application at any of our Club locations. Upon completion of a membership application, Club members and their guardians are required to attend an orientation. Orientation times will be available at the front desk of each of the Club sites and additional orientations will be offered at peak renewal times. After orientation Club members will be able to attend the Club and will receive a Club card, which Club members are required to bring to be admitted into the BGC. Additional membership cards may be purchased for $2.00. Each time the Club member forgets their card they will be charged $.50. Lanyards may be purchased at front desk for $1.00.

RENEWAL APPLICATION POLICIES The Boys & Girls Club of Portage County annual membership expires December 31st of each calendar year. Guardians have until the end of January to renew their membership for the year. If the membership is not renewed during January, the Club member will not be able to attend the BGC until their membership is renewed. Club members who become a member or renew during December will have their memberships carry over to the next calendar year.

GRADE REQUIREMENTS

Each of the BGCPC Sites serves different grades which can be found on each of our Club sites specific webpage: www.bgclubpc.org. During BGCPC programming time Club members will be grouped in age specific programming. Our age specific programming is divided into three groups: Pals are 3rd grade and under, Cadets are 4th – 6th grade, Teens are 7th grade and up. When summer programming begins, Club members will be put into age specific programming of the grade they will be going into the following fall. Club members will be considered “graduated” from the BGCPC program after the end of their summer following their senior year in high school or when they turn 19 years of age; whichever comes first. Once Club members are “graduated” from the BGCPC they will be eligible to volunteer six months after their BGCPC “graduation” date, and after a completed background check.

If there are changes to your child’s health, medication, living situations, etc., it is the responsibility of the guardian to notify Club staff. Please remember to notify staff of any contact information changes or changes in custody arrangements so that we can best serve your child(ren). BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT

Club Members, participants, guardians, and Club staff share the responsibility to create and maintain a safe and positive environment at the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County. In doing so, BGCPC follows our Be GREAT policy (Good citizenship, Respect, Engaged, Attitude, and Teamwork) as well as the behavior model of the school district that the Club is affiliated with. The decision making model is included below. BGCPC discipline actions depend on each situation which may include, but is not limited to, personal breaks, suspensions from an activity for the rest of the day, assisting in Club chores, or meeting with a staff. More serious problems may require suspension from the Club for a period of time dependent upon the severity of the offense. All disciplinary actions will be documented and guardians will be notified and asked to sign any documentation. If a Club member was suspended or dismissed early from school due to a discipline issue, they may not attend the Club that same day. Club staff will contact the guardians of a Club member depending on the situation. If a Club member is asked to leave their guardian will be notified and have 30 minutes to pick them up. All guardians who are unable to pick their child up within the given time frame must make arrangements for a friend or relative to pick them up. Until the Club member is picked up, they will not be able to participate in programs.
