    4. INFECTION

The simple believeth every word: but the

prudent man looketh well to his going. Pr.14:15As charcoal is to burning coals, and wood

to fire, So is a contentious man to kindle strife.

He who hates, disguises it with his lips, And

lays up deceit within himself; When he speaks

kindly, do not believe him, For there are seven

    abominations in his heart;

You shall not go about as a talebearer among

your people; nor shall you take a stand against

the life of your neighbor: I am the LORD. Lev.

    19:16

A diseased Christian has grieved and

quenched the Holy Spirit by taking up offenses

    SYMPTOMS OF THE DISEASE:

    A. Developing bitterness and/or rebellion, even

though the person involved did not directly offend

    us

    B. Setting ourselves up as judge in matters NOT

our responsibility and getting others to side w/us

    C. Searching out evil reports and using them in anevil way: An ungodly man digs up evil, And it is on

    D. Believing that our actions are godly andaccomplishing Gods will rather than we are givingsatan an advantage, giving unbelievers an opportunityto mock and ridicule Gods name and church. Pauladdressed this in 1 Cor.5:5-8

I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not awise man among you, not even one, who will be ableto judge between his brethren? But brother goes to

law against brother, and that before unbelievers! Nowtherefore, it is already an utter failure for you that yougo to law against one another. Why do you not ratheraccept wrong? 1 Cor.6:5-7

5 QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE LISTENING TO A

    CARRIER OF AN EVIL REPORT:

    1. What is your reason for telling me?

    2. Where did you get your information?

    3. Have you gone to those involved?

    4. Have you personally checked out the facts?

5.Can I quote you if I check this out?

Have I accepted the evil report as true?

The simple believeth every word: but the

prudent man looketh well to his going. Pr.14:15

Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous

sins; let them not have dominion over me: then

shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the

great transgression. Ps.19:13 Presumption: To assume to be true in the

absence of proof to the contrary

Has the evil report affected how I feel toward

    the person involved?

A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: butperverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

    Pr.15:4

for wherein thou judgest another, thou

condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest

    doest the same things. Ro.2:1
