GUEST SPEAKERS ACADEMIC YEAR 2017-2018 M.A. ADVANCED ENGLISH STUDIES 16.10.2017 (4pm) Dr. Jesús LÓPEZ-PELÁEZ CASELLAS WELCOME SESSION Dr. Jesús López-Peláez Casellas, Associate Professor of English at the University of Jaén, participates in the Master’s WELCOME SESSION on October 16 th , with a lecture on “Proto-Globalization and New Economy in Early Modern English Literature”. [Bionote] Dr. Jesús López-Peláez is Associate Professor of English and Head of the English Department at the University of Jaén. He is the author of Honourable Murderers’: El concepto del honor en Othello, de W. Shakespeare y los ‘dramas de honor’ de Pedro Calderón (Oxford: Peter Lang 2009), co-author of Otras narrativas: una aproximación a la literatura popular anglo-norteamericana (Universidad de Jaén, 1998) and Breve historia de las Islas Británicas (Sílex, 2006), and editor of Strangers in Early Modern English Texts (Peter Lang, 2011). His articles have appeared in the Journal of World History, Studies in Philology, ATLANTIS, Studia Neophilologica, Journal of SEDERI, Miscelánea, or Popular Music. He has been Research Manager of several national and international Research and Teaching Projects, including the I+D+i Project “Musulmanes, españoles y judíos en los textos premodernos en lengua inglesa: La construcción del ‘Otro.’” 15.11.2017 Dr. Carmen PÉREZ SABATER Dr. Carmen Pérez Sabater, Associate Professor of English at the Universitat Politècnica de València, participates in the module Discourse in the Media on November 15 th , with a lecture on “The analysis of informality in online discourse”. [Bionote] Dr. Carmen Pérez Sabater, Associate Professor of English at the Universitat Politècnica de València, Department of Applied Linguistics. She is currently working in the field of Comparative Discourse Analysis, Computer-mediated Communication, English for Specific/Academic Purposes and Gender Studies. Her research has been published in prestigious journals such as Ibérica, International Journal of English Studies, Journal of Pragmatics, Linguistik Online, RESLA, RSEL, and Written Communication, among others. Since 2014, she has been leading the UPV team of the European project CoMoViWo (Communication in Mobile and Virtual Work).

Dr. Paula García Ramírez, Associate Professor of English at the University of Jaén, participates in the module Shapes of Hope: Utopian and Dystopian Fiction, on November 16th, with a lecture on “Utopia Falls Apart’: Political Degradation in the New African Republics as portrayed in Chinua Achebe’s Narrative.”

Dr. Paula García is Associate Professor of English at the University of Jaén. She has directed two Ph.D. dissertations on African fiction, decolonisation, political corruption, and survival. Her own Ph.D.Dissertation is entitled “La Narrativa Nigeriana en Lengua Inglesa: Chinua Achebe o el Reverso de la Utopía”. She has been a guest researcher at the University of Leeds and at Harvard University (Real Colegio Complutense).

18.12.2017 Dr. Marta CEREZO MORENO

Dr. Marta Cerezo Moreno, Senior Lecturer in English Literature at the UNED, participates in the module Literature, Arts and Performance in Anglophone Cultures on December 18th, with a lecture on “Appropriating Philomela”.

Dr. Marta Cerezo is Senior Lecturer at the UNED. Her main research interests are on cultural discourses in William Shakespeare and in contemporary narratives. She is also interested in postmodern revisions of the Renaissance. She is author of Critical Approaches to Shakespeare: Shakespeare for All Time (2005) and co-editor of Traces of Aging. Old Age and Memory in Contemporary Narrative (2016).

Dr. Margarita Carretero González, Associate professor of English at the University of Jaén, participates in the module Research Methods and Resources in English Literary Studies, on January 16th, 2018.

Dr. Margarita Carretero González is Associate profesor of English at the University of Jaén where she currently teaches courses on research methods in English literature, Ecocriticism and Posthumanism, and Literature's connection with other artistic discourses.She is a Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics and member of the R&D Project “Environmental humanities. Strategies for ecological empathy and the transition towards sustainable societies”.

Dr. Santiago González Fernández-Corugedo, Full Professor of English Studies at the University of Oviedo, participates in the module Editing English Literary Texts on February 6th, with a lecture on “Editing English Tudor and Jacobean texts”.

Dr. Santiago González Fernández-Corugedo, Full Professor of English Studies at the University of Oviedo, he has taught Ph.D. courses on research methods at numerous universities, in and outside Spain. He is a member of numerous editorial/advisory boards of academic journals and the author of the Anthology of Middle English Texts for the Oxford University Text Archive. He has also served at the Ministry of Education’s ANECA and has been Consul of Education and Science at the Consulate General of Spain in Miami and Education and Science Commissioner at the Embassy of Spain in Australia, New Zealand, among other countries.

7.2.2018 Dr. Miguel Ángel MONTEZANTI

Dr. Miguel Ángel Montezanti, Full Professor at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata (Argentina), participates in the module Translating and Adapting English Literary Texts on February 7th, with a lecture on “The Translation of Shakespeare’s Poetry into Spanish”

Miguel Ángel Montezanti is Professor at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata (Argentina) and researcher of CONICET. His main research areas are English lyrical poetry and literary translation, especially Shakespeare. He is author of El nudo Coronado. Estudio de Cuatro Cuartetos (1994), Extraño encuentro. La poesía de Wilfred Owen (2002), Visitas hospitalarias. La poesía de Philip Larkin (2006) and Seamus Heany en sus textos (2009). He has published the following annotated translations: Baladas inglesas y escocesas (1980), and by Shakespeare, Sonetos (1987 and 2003), La violación de Lucrecia (2012), Venus y Adonis (2014), and Quejas de una enamorada (2016). As a poet he has published Maleficios de espejo (2007), Hablar las losas (2010) and El Verbo de tus ojos (2013).

Dr. Hanna Skorczynska, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Applied Linguistics at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, participates in the module Communication in Specialised Domains on February 12th, with a lecture on “Lexical Patterns in Specialized Communication: The Case of Metaphor”.

Dr. Hanna Skorczynska Sznajder is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Applied Linguistics at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. Her research interests include the use of metaphor in specialist discourse, cross-cultural profesional communication, as well as genre variation in profesional contexts. She has published articles in journals such as Metaphor & Symbol, Metaphor in the Social World, Text & Talk, or English for Specific Purposes.

Dr. María Luisa Pérez Cañado, Associate Professor at the Department of English Studies at the University of Jaén, participates in the module English Language Acquisition on April 17 th, with a lecture on “20 Questions about CLIL: An updated, critical, and research-based introduction to bilingual education”.

Dr. María Luisa Pérez Cañado is Associate Professor of English and Vice-dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education at the University of Jaén. Her research interests include Applied Linguistics, bilingual education and new technologies in language teaching. She is currently coordinating two governmentally-funded research projects on the effects of CLIL in monolingual contexts, as well as the first intercollegiate MA degree on bilingual education and CLIL.

Dr. Elena Ortells Montón, Associate Professor of English at the Universitat Jaume I, participates in the module “North-American Fiction of Resistance: History, Memory and Trauma” on May 10th , with a lecture on “American Fiction after 9/11: Trauma and Resistance”.

Elena Ortells Montón is Associate Professor of English at the Department of English Studies of the Universitat Jaume I of Castelló, Spain. She is also the Head of the Department of English Studies. She has published articles in Revista Alicantina de Estudios Ingleses, Revista de Estudios Norteamericanos, Academic Exchange Quarterly, Culture, Language and Representation, Atlantis, and English Teaching: Practice and Critique, among other journals. Dr. Santiago Posteguillo is Associate Professor of English at the Universitat Jaume I. He is a well-known author of historical fiction, whose remarkable contribution to the field has been acknowledged by prestigious Institutions. In 2010 he was awarded the “Premio de las Letras Valencianas”, to be followed by the “Premio Internacional de Novela Histórica de Barcelona” in 2014. In 2015 the Generalitat Valenciana declared him “Escritor del Año”. In 2018 he will deliver several Seminars on Historical Fiction at the University of Cambridge
