    GUHAS MYTHIC ADVENTURES

    By P.S. Raakhee

    Concept Note/Summary:

GUHAS MYTHIC ADVENTURES is an original local storyline for a series pitched at 10-14 year olds and is a themed under the category Grandma's story retold in today's times.

Guha Shivkumar, the 10-year-old protagonist of these adventures, is the son of two busy medicalpractitioners Drs. Gauri and Shiv Kumar in the bustling metropolis of Chennai. Guhasadventures begin the first summer holidays after his grandmothers death, when he has to remainin the city over the holidays minded by a soap-opera loving ayah (Nanny) Ganga, instead of spending the summer with his beloved and doting grandmother Shakti pati (Tamil for granny),who succumbed to a respiratory infection and old age the previous October.

Guha is no ordinary boy. His MENSA-level genius was just the tip of the iceberg. His

grandmother Shakti was renowned across the country as a very powerful religious guru. Her fame rivaled that of Sai Baba and Amrita Mayi. From a village herbalist and medicine woman, her familys traditional role, Shaktis miraculous feats made her into a much sought after religiousexponent. It was believed that she had a direct access to the Hindu pantheon and those whosought her guidance received divine directions. Even as her fame grew his relations with her family became strained and then estranged. Her son Dr. Shiv Kumar while continuing hisancestral profession of healing by training as a doctor simultaneously lost sight of his spiritualroots and came to resent his mothers dependence on divine interventions and directives. Shaktiwas aware that the Gift would skip a generation. For her losing the love of her beloved son was asmall price to pay for the good she was doing her people. She was also confident that her grandson was destined to become an even greater healer and guru than any one else in history. Thus, even though time was limited she tried to transfer as much knowledge and wisdom to her grandson in the in the nine summers she had with Guha. Following her death she knew that theGift would pass on to Guha and he would gain direct divine guidance.

Guhas adventures are a series of trysts with the gods and demi-gods of Hindu mythology whodrop in to cheer up the grandson of their favoured acolyte Shakti by taking up where she left off his training on the Hindu religious texts, myths and epics. The gods/demi-gods who appear dailythrough the summer take Guha on adventures while they do what they got to do as they tell hima bit about their origin/story while his minder Ganga is engrossed with her morning and afternoonsoaps on the local cable channels.

Guhas first visitor is the Sun god Lord Surya, which is the sample chapter submitted for your approval in this Disney Pitchkiaow contest. Surya kicks off the series and Guhas adventures bytaking the boy up on his chariot and telling him about his role is keeping creation going, a little bitabout himself and his family, their dysfunctions, and his most famous student Hanuman, whogained immortality after being knocked off by the ever-worried King of Heaven the Thunder-LordIndira fearing his growing closeness with Surya. Guha feasts on ambrosia in Lord Suryas homeat high noon before being dropped off at sunset before the return of his parents with ayah Gangahaving no clue about Guhas Solar Sojourn.

The other stories/chapters in this first series of 10 stories/chapters will describe Guha, the futureHindu gurus trysts with the other 8 gods (Lord Chandra the Moon god, Lord Mangal Mars, LordBhudhan Mercury, Guru Jupiter the divine teacher of the gods, Lord Sukran Venus, LordSaneshwar Saturn and the two interloping immortalized part-snake, part-demon/asura Rahu andKedu) who form the nine planets/navgraha that guide mans destiny and the King of the gods andHeaven the usurper-fearing Lord Indira.
