Guidance that makes a difference...Financial advice built for you
Your financial future - sorted.
What to expect
Mirador Wealth Management is a privately owned, fee for service financial
advice firm. We take pride in providing quality advice, client service,
and on providing strategy focused financial guidance, not
product, at a reasonable cost to our clients. We strive to provide portfolio management that is adaptive, low cost, and via transparent investment choices that will put your financial goals within reach.
Our post-graduate qualified advisors go above and beyond to bring you
strategic investment management, superannuation and retirement planning,
and can make sense of complex components to your financial life, such as:
— portfolio management;
— superannuation and self managed super funds (SMSF’s);
— investments via shares and Exchange Traded Funds (ETF’s);
— property advice;
— insurance and risk management;
— debt structuring and tax efficiency; and
— estate planning
We educate:We believe that our advice should be easily understood, and that it makes sense. We do this through educating you on why any recommendation is made.
Our straightforward advice partnership, via a six-step roadmap lays out how we provide your own tailored financial advice. One of our commitments is to provide clear and transparent advice at all times, that you can follow at any stage.
Discovery meetingThe initial, obligation free meeting
starts as an opportunity for your
personal senior financial advisor to
start to build an understanding of
your current financial situation, and
to help establish if we have a basis
for a positive working relationship.
In advance of this meeting, you
will receive an introductory pack
that provides you with documents
to complete and return to us, most
commonly a short 5 Minute Health
Check and an About You Questionnaire.
In order for us to fully grasp and
understand your circumstances,
including your assets, liabilities,
income and expenses (your own
personal balance sheet/profit and
loss statement), we ask that you
also provide other documents such
as superannuation statements,
tax returns or share and property
holdings for our initial meeting.
From there we can build a personalized
profile that will cover your goals and
objectives, as well as a realistic pathway
and time-frame for achieving them.
Strategy developmentAfter you and your personal financial
advisor have made your first steps
to building a working partnership,
we begin developing your tailored
plan by aligning your finances with
your goals and objectives. As an
example, you might want to seek
out ways to reduce tax, to boost
your superannuation, to establish an
allocated pension, or simply to manage
your portfolio more proactively.
We strive to help you achieve these
goals, by providing a detailed road
map and strategies to protect,
secure, and enhance your future.
Financial plan preparationOnce we have built a tailored financial
strategy for you, we will document it
in writing so that you know exactly
what and why we recommend various
strategies, how your money is to be
invested, the benefits of the strategies,
how much our services will cost, and
the ongoing services we will provide
in partnership with you. This written
document is called a Statement of
Advice (SoA), an important legal
document, and is also the starting
point to you reaching your goals.
Our approach to investment includes
a managed portfolio of directly
owned assets, wherever possible.
This means that we avoid what often
are underperforming and expensive
managed funds usually owned and
managed by banks or large financial
institutions, and we can ensure that
your funds are invested conservatively
in a tax-efficient, low cost manner.
Our advice process
1 2 3
We base our service on understanding, and developing meaningful relationships with our clients, so that we can add value to you as your situation or needs change. This provides you with assurance that you are looked after by staff that are judged on your satisfaction, rather than via product sales you may find elsewhere.
Plan presentationOnce your Statement of Advice is
ready, we will reach out to organize
a meeting to guide you through our
recommendations. We will break down
any complicated concepts into plain
English, using easy to understand ideas
so that you may fully grasp how we
intend to assist and why and how that
benefits you. We will go step by step
through each recommendation in your
plan, and break down our reasoning
for making each one and the impact it
will have on your financial situation.
Each recommendation will be carefully
justified and tailored to your situation,
with alternatives offered, so you can see
the rationale for each recommendation.
Our investment strategy is only a
piece of your overall plan, but like
all other strategies, it is transparent,
straightforward, and easy to
understand. There are very limited
situations in which we would
recommend taking significant
risks, unless we both agree that
it is absolutely necessary.
Implementing your planAfter the presentation meeting,
and once all recommendations
are understood and agreed to, we
will complete the initial work by
implementing each recommendation
in a timely, cost and tax-efficient
manner to ensure that your plan takes
the form of action. As an example
of various actions we undertake, in
many situations we can establish
self-managed superannuation funds,
establish pension accounts, make
share purchases, liaise with your
lawyer and accountant, and establish
investment accounts. The complexity
of your situation can also affect the
timeframe for implementation, and
sometimes a full plan of action can
take from a fortnight to a few months.
As per the rest of our partnership, we
provide communication and updates
throughout, and we have dedicated
tasks and project management to
ensure that all items are completed
as efficiently as possible.
Goal focus and ongoing managementWe understand that your life is
constantly evolving, and likewise, so
are regulations and legislation that
may affect your situation. After initial
recommendations and once implemented,
this is by no means a “set and forget”
type approach. We provide ongoing
support and portfolio management,
so that not only will you stay on track
with your goals, but you can also benefit
from any changes in legislation or shifts
in your own priorities. We provide
regular meetings with you at intervals
that are convenient for you, as well
as communication that incorporates
your portfolio and legislative changes
throughout the interim periods between.
If you happen to be interstate or are
overseas, we can provide either video
conferencing or phone conferences.
In addition, you are always welcome
to call or email us with any questions,
concerns, or queries regarding your
financial decisions or situation.
As a client, your investments will be
actively handled by a professional
portfolio manager utilising Exchange
Traded Funds (ETF’s) and shares
where possible, rather than expensive,
and in many cases, underperforming
and expensive managed funds.

How we look after your investments
Where appropriate, we look to provide you with a more transparent and personal approach with your money, giving you proper investment advice (rather than a managed fund approach used by others). How this benefits you is through a number of ways.
Control – Your portfolio’s assets are held individually, as opposed
to being pooled with others in a unit trust or managed fund. This
provides you with greater control over your investment outcomes.
Flexible – Your holdings can be adjusted to meet specific needs such as
accommodating other investments, specific requests or share transfers.
Tax Efficient – You only receive the income and capital
gains or losses directly attributable to your investments. This
enables you to effectively manage your tax position.
Transparent – We provide 24/7 access to your investment
information via a secure website. This allows you to monitor
information such as holdings, transactions and dividends.
Risk Management – Your portfolio is managed by investment
experts to build and protect your wealth and by professionals who are
skilled in applying asset allocation to effectively meet your objectives.

A typical advisor’s portfolio for their clients
We admit it, we’re different.
While your typical advisor may state that they’re providing investment
advice, what are they actually doing? Over the years, we’ve found that the
vast majority rely on a philosophy called strategic asset allocation. What this
entails is no different to what you already may have held in superannuation
or your investments prior, where 25% of your investments are in Australian
shares, 30% in international shares, etc. largely via managed funds, which
themselves are often expensive. Once a quarter or other predetermined
date, your portfolio goes back to the predetermined 25/30% split.
This may be appropriate, depending on your situation, however
it does mean that your money is essentially timing the market
based on the date of your “rebalance” rather than any actual
economic factors both global and domestic. This may mean
you are holding on too long to certain assets simply because
your rebalance date is not for another few weeks or months.

What we believe.
DYNAMIC ASSET ALLOCATION
Dynamic Asset Allocation approach takes an active stance to the allocation
of your money between the various asset classes based on market conditions
and the forecast future returns expected from each asset class. It means that
the allocation of your funds between asset classes will change based on a
comparison of valuations and expected returns between the asset classes,
so your portfolio moves to an overweight stance in asset classes where we
expect good future returns and vice versa. Expensive or overpriced assets
mean likely low future returns or even capital losses, so exposure is actively
reduced over time, potentially to zero if an asset class becomes very expensive.
Losses still can and have historically occurred, similar to other
strategies, but there is active management in your tailored
approach based on your needs, as well as economic factors, rather
than simply because of a pre-determined rebalancing date.

Meet your CFO at Mirador Wealth Management
Marcus is the founder of Mirador Wealth Management and principal advisor.
He has been quoted in several publications, and is sourced as an expert in
financial advice and investment trends, both domestically and abroad.
Marcus started Mirador Wealth Management as a different type
of financial advisory practice, one that focuses on strategies and
client goals, rather than products or sales incentives.
Marcus is a member of the Association
of Financial Advisors (AFA), the Financial
Planning Association of Australia
(FPA), and the Mortgage & Finance
Association of Australia (MFAA). He is
a Fellow of the Financial Services
Institute of Australasia (FINSIA) and
holds a Master of Applied Finance &
Investment (MAppFin.) in addition to his
Bachelor’s degree, and advanced diplomas
in finance and financial planning.
I looked at the financial advice
profession, and I saw how many
players were linked with big banks,
investment or insurance companies.
Whilst this doesn’t prove conflicts
of interest, I wanted my clients
to know that they get advice for
their own needs, rather than to hit
a sales target for a third party.
