We can add the tens and the ones separately.

So, 48+26 is 60+14=74.40+20 is

60, and 8+6 is 14.

Or, we can just add

50+24.

Huh?

To add 26 to 48, we can

add 2...

Adding 2 to 48 gets us to 50, and 50+24 is easier

than 48+26.

50+24=74.

That makes sense.

Moving the rolls doesn't change how many there are, but it

sure makes the addition

easier.

...then 24 more.

On the number line, adding 2 then 24 is

the same as adding 26.

What's 192+24?

...then, we need to

add 24–8=16 more to get

Or, to make the addition easier, we

can just take 8 gloves from the box...

To add 24, we can start by adding 8 to get

to 200...

...and put them in the

case. Adding 200+16 is a

lot easier than 192+24.

There are 75 tabs in this ultra pack, and 128 tabs in this mega pack.

|'ll do the sponges. To add 36

sponges plus 17 sponges...

That gives me 40+13=53.

Right. Or, you could take 3 sponges from the pack and put

them with the loose sponges.

Then, you have

33+20=53.

Either way, the

addition is easier.

And the number

of sponges doesn't change.

...| can take 4 of these loose sponges and put

them with the pack.

We have two full packs.

Find the sum.
