The McMillen Center for Health Education educates youth and adults in northeast Indiana, around the country, and into Canada. This year we reached a record number of students – over 51,000! Our mission of providing preventive health education is the same, but how we meet our mission has changed as the needs of our community change. While we continue to deliver education here at our Center and in the schools, our film studio allows us to provide live education around the world and to film educational videos. In the coming years you will see us moving more into curriculum development to reach youth with unique McMillen programming. Our first curriculum Brush! has been an astounding success, currently reaching over 60,000 preschoolers nationwide. We’ve also published three children’s books on oral health and developed a musical assembly based on our I Need My Teeth book. The success of the McMillen Center continues to be cultured by the generous support we receive from our donors, including foundations, individuals, and corporate sponsorships. We look forward to another exciting year!

    Brush! Assembly

2015 Interprofessional Children's Oral Health Summit

In our Brush! Assembly, students get a chance to view a live presentation that educates them on the importance of their teeth. The story is about a boy named James and includes characters such as Roger the Red Robot, The Tooth Fairy and his best friend, Matthew. With funding from Delta Dental Foundation, the Brush! Assembly was presented to over 4,500 Allen County students.

At the 2015 Interprofessional Children’s Oral Health Summit, nationally known keynote speakers presented on the important topic of oral health as it relates to children. Education on the need for children to establish a dental home at age one and encouraging pediatricians to work with dentists was the focus of this event. Speakers included David Krol MD, MPH, FAAP (top left), Patrice Pascual M.A. (top right), Lisa Rudolph, DMD, MPH (bottom) and Paul Rudolph (bottom).

Serving 60,000 nationwide, the Brush! curriculum addresses the prevention of dental decay in infants and young children, using a comprehensive approach that involves parents, early childhood education professionals, and children. Visit www.brushdental.org to learn more.
