    Resience Hall Chec-in

    When you arrive at your residence hall, a sta member will meet you. You will receivea room inventory and condition orm, registration card, and a room key. All contents

    o the room, including foor, ceiling, windows, doors and urniture, are property o theuniversity and are considered room inventory items. Recording their condition in detailat move-in can save you rom being charged or damages at the end o the year.

    CONTRACT

    All residents will indicate online their agreement to the terms and conditions o theresidence hall contract prior to moving in. This is completed when residents accepttheir housing assignment.

    kEYSEach resident will receive one key to his or her room and one key or the mailbox that willbe issued at check-in. Students in suites or the Casa will receive two keys. Students inEast, Teresa and the Casa will be assigned mailboxes in the University Post Oce.

    PARkING PERMIT

    Each resident who brings a vehicle to campus will be required to register that vehiclewith the University Police Department to receive a parking permit. Students registeronline and then pick up the permit in the Auxiliary Services card oce in Holy Cross

    Hall, Room G12.Permits are valid or parking in the designated residential lots only. The cost o thispermit is in addition to the students housing costs. Students are advised to registerbicycles with UPD.

    dEPOSIT

    All residents student accounts will be billed $150 or a deposit at the beginning othe all semester. The deposit is reundable, minus the $20 cleaning ee and anyadditional charges that may be incurred.

    Room/Hall Changes

    You will be notied during early summer about your roommate so you can begingetting acquainted and making plans or your room beore arriving on campus.Once the residence halls open, any new requests or room changes will be puton hold until ater the 12th day o classes. The purpose o this hold is to giveroommates a chance to get to know one another and to adjust to community living.The Residence Lie sta is available to assist when needed. This time period also

    gives you a chance to meet and get to know others in the residence hall so that ia change needs to be made, you may select your next roommate. Room changeswill be made only i all involved parties agree with the change and the request isapproved by the residence director. Students should not move until the residencedirector has authorized an approval notice. Students who move without authorizationwill be required to move back to their original room.

    Meiation

    I a student is not getting along with his/her roommate, the residents o that room willparticipate in a mediation process guided by Residence Lie sta. Every eort will

    be made to work toward a mutually satisactory decision.

    Closure Beteen Semesters

    All residence halls close between the all and spring semesters and ater the springsemester prior to the summer term. Interim housing is available on a limited basis orhousing ater the spring and summer terms. There is a charge or interim housing,and it may be available only in one residence hall. Residence halls do not closeduring the Thanksgiving, Spring Break or Easter holidays.

    Returning Stuent Application Process

    Students wishing to live on campus during the 20142015 academic year will havean opportunity to apply or housing in February 2014. Inormation will be availablethrough the Oce o Residence Lie in January 2014.

    Checout

    You must ocially check out o your residence hall room 24 hours ater your last nalexam, unless you are given an extension. I you are a graduating senior, you mustocially check out by 5 p.m. the day ater graduation. Students who withdraw priorto the end o the semester must vacate their rooms within 48 hours o the date owithdrawal. Any time a resident permanently vacates a residence hall room, he/she mustcheck out with a residence hall sta member or complete an express check-out orm.

    Residents are responsible or the condition o their room and all the urnishingsassigned. Charges or damages and/or cleaning assessed to the residents bythe university will be deducted rom the students room deposit. I charges are inexcess o the room deposit, the balance will be placed on the students account.Determination o the amount o such loss or damages shall be made by theuniversity. In addition, residents who ail to properly check out and turn in their keyswill be billed or keys and an improper checkout.

    Apartment Chec-in

    You will meet with an apartment sta member to complete the ollowing steps whenyou arrive on campus to move into your apartment.

    MOvE-IN INvENTORY ANd CONdITION FORM

    You will receive this orm in your check-in packet. A thorough inspection o theapartment should be made to identiy any pre-existing conditions, which shouldbe noted on the orm. The completed orm should be checked or accuracy,signed by the resident(s) and returned to the apartment sta. Residents will have48 hours to report any additional damages ater the condition orm is signed atmove-in. A signature rom any one resident on this orm authorizes acceptance othe apartments condition. Any damage that is not recorded on the orm will be the

    responsibility o the resident(s).

    CONTRACT

    All residents living in an apartment will indicate online their agreement to the termsand conditions o the apartment contract prior to moving in.

    ELECTRIC BILL

    One resident in each apartment will be responsible or setting up service with theCity o Austin and or paying the electric bill. Call 512-494-9400 within 48 hours omove-in to set up this service. I the electric bill is not transerred to the studentsname, Residence Lie will bill the student along with adding a $20 administrativecharge to each bill.

    Apartment Eligibility

    All students at St. Edwards who have 30 or more credit hours are eligible to live inthe university apartments. All residents must be St. Edwards University students.

    Contracts will only be granted to students o the same gender within eachapartment, with the exception o apartments leased to siblings. Students who haveminor children living with them are not eligible to live in the apartments. Animals arenot allowed in the apartments at any time. Fish in tanks up to 30 gallons are allowed.

    The Oce o Residence Lie is committed to creating a quality living-learningenvironment at the university apartments. We believe in an open, caring, purposeul,celebratory and disciplined community. According to the apartment leasingguidelines, students requesting to live in the St. Edwards University apartments or torenew their contracts may be ineligible based on:Repeatedviolationsofuniversityand/orapartment/hallregulations

    Historyofincidentreports

    Payment history, an inspection o the apartment or damages, disciplinary records

    with the university and prior disciplinary records will be taken into considerationwhen determining eligibility or the apartments.

    Checout

    All students must check out by the date specied in the contract. Residents mustcheck out o their apartment 24 hours ater their last nal exam unless they havebeen granted an extension or approved by their residence director. Residentsshould complete an express check-out orm.

    APARTMENT kEYS

    Keys must be returned using the community Express Check Out envelopes and

    drop box. Failure to return a key will result in a reduction o the deposit to cover alock change and new key charges.

    FORwARdING AddRESSES

    Residents are responsible or changing their address with the U.S. Post Oce andthe university through EdWeb.

    ELECTRIC BILL

    Residents are required to cancel their electric service when they move out.St. Edwards University sta is not permitted to process the inormation. Call 512-494-9400 prior to move-out to switch service back to St. Edwards. Residents are

    responsible or their portion o the bill. The electric company will reer delinquentaccounts to a collection agency.

    MOvE-IN INvENTORY ANd CONdITION FORM

    The move-in inventory and condition orm, submitted by the residents at move-in,will be reviewed by university personnel when the condition o the apartment isassessed ater the resident vacates the apartment. Damage charges in an apartmentwill be divided equally among the residents and deducted rom the deposit, unlessa resident indicates otherwise to the apartment director in a written statement. This

    includes damages due to neglecting to report maintenance problems (e.g., damagescaused by plumbing leaks). Although residents are responsible or maintainingclean apartments, each student will be charged a mandatory $60 cleaning ee atercheckout. Further charges will be assessed based on the condition o the apartment.A list o damage charges is available in the check-in packet.

    Payment of Charges

    Charges or university apartments are posted to the student account every semester

    along with tuition and ees. Payment plans can be set up through the Oce oStudent Financial Services. Students have the option o paying charges in ull orin installments. The cost to participate in a payment plan is $35 per semester. Forurther inormation, please contact Student Financial Services at 512-448-8523.

    Contract Terms

    The ollowing inormation represents a summary o the lease contract terms:

    CONTRACT dURATIONAn apartment contract will be granted when the occupant(s) o an apartment hasselected an available apartment by participating in the Online Housing Sign-Up orby assignment rom Residence Lie. Residents have the option o an academic-yearor summer contract based on availability. Semester contracts may be available i anapartment becomes vacant or the spring semester.

    CHANGE OF RESIdENTS

    Changing residents within an apartment is allowed only when approved by the

    associate director o Residence Lie. The resident who replaces the outgoingresident will be required to submit a request or approval. I the request is approved,the new resident will be required to submit a security deposit and sign a contract.

    MEdIATION

    I a student experiences confict with his/her roommate(s), the residents o that roomwill meet with the apartment director. Every eort will be made to work toward amutually satisactory decision.

    BREAkING THE CONTRACTResidents are allowed to break their apartment contract i they withdraw rom theuniversity, study abroad, are scheduled or military service or are asked to leave theuniversity or disciplinary reasons. The departing resident will oreit his/her deposit

    to cover damage charges.I a space in an apartment becomes available, the university reserves the right toassign students to the vacancy.

    ROOM CHANGESI residents experience diculties with roommates, they must go through confict

    mediation with the help o the Residence Lie sta. Moving to a new location withoutmediation is not permitted and will constitute a contract violation.

    A room change period without mediation begins ollowing the 12th class day eachsemester. Requests or housing changes should be addressed to the residencedirector. Final approval or room changes will be granted by the assignmentscoordinator or Residence Lie.

    RESERvATION OF RIGHTS

    The university reserves the right to make changes in the apartment rates at any time,eective at the end o the residents contract term. The university urther reservesthe right to make changes in the apartment policies at any time and to reassignapartments prior to move-in. The university will communicate changes to theapartment residents in a timely manner. To maintain a positive learning environment,the university may temporarily or permanently remove residents rom the apartmentswithout warning or any destructive and disruptive behaviors.

    Cable

    Every residence hall room and apartment bedroom is equipped with a cable outlet. Toreceive cable services, students should bring a cable-ready television and cable cord.Basic cable service is included in the cost o the room. Extended service can be ordered bycalling Time Warner at 512-485-6000. Extended service charges will be the responsibility othe resident who orders the service and will be paid directly to Time Warner.

    Campus Chapel

    Our Lady Queen o Peace Chapel is open or individual refection 6:30 a.m. to10 p.m., seven days a week. Sunday morning Mass is at 10:30 a.m., and Sundayevening Mass is at 9 p.m. Daily Mass is held Monday through Friday at noon.

    Computers

    RESIdENCE HALLS

    Each room is equipped with a computer jack or each resident, allowing students to

    access the universitys computer system. Students will receive an instruction packetat check-in with inormation on procedures to be connected to the universitys system.Computer labs are located in each residence hall and are available 24 hours a day.Residents may call the Computer Help Desk or lab assistance at 512-448-8443. Mostresidence hall common areas are wireless. Students should not attempt to adjust ortamper with any installed wireless routers.

    APARTMENTS

    All apartments are equipped with computer data ports in each bedroom, and the

    connection to the university computer system is included in the housing costs.Residents will be provided with inormation on accessing the universitys systemduring check-in. The Clubhouse, located at the back o the apartment complex, hascomputers available or use by apartment residents during regular Clubhouse hours.Apartment sta members are responsible or monitoring the use o the computers.Students should not attempt to adjust or tamper with any installed wireless routers.

    dining Serices

    All dining services at the university are provided by Bon Apptit and are locatedin the Robert and Pearle Ragsdale Center and the residential village. All students,aculty and sta are welcome to dine in South Congress Market, Hunt Hall Ca (theuniversitys dining acilities) or Meadows Coeehouse, which oers a wide varietyo pastries and beverages. The Huddle oers burritos, tacos and quesadillas romaternoon to late night.

    South Congress Market oers a wide variety o options, including a ull-servicedining hall, prepared-to-order-items and takeout service. The adjoining Cullen andKresge dining rooms provide a comortable space to dine or study.

    Meadows Coeehouse serves espresso, cappuccino, granitas and other specialtydrinks as well as baked goods and sandwiches.

    Guests in both dining acilities may pay cash at the register or open a Topper Tenderaccount and save ve percent on purchases.

    MEAL PLANS FOR ON-CAMPUS RESIdENTS

    Students living on campus are required to purchase a dining plan, which isautomatically charged or both the all and spring semesters to the students accountwith a conrmed residence hall reservation. Apartment residents are required tohave a meal plan. Dining plan unds can be used in South Congress Market, HuntHall Ca, The Huddle, Meadows Coeehouse and Doyle Coee Shop.

    Dining plans operate on a declining balance system, where each item is pricedseparately and is deducted rom the account balance. I students do not use theentire all meal plan allotment by the end o the all semester, the balance will berolled over to the ollowing spring semester or use.

    Students may bring guests to dine and may pay or their meals with the meal plan.The Hilltopper Card holder must be present at the cash register whenever his/her mealplan card is used. Identication cards presented by people other than their ownersmay be conscated by university sta to protect students rom possible thet.

    I a residence hall student withdraws rom classes, dining plan reunds will bebased on the universitys traditional undergraduate reund dates and policies. Thepercentages will be applied to the unused portion only.

    Health & Counseling Center

    The Health & Counseling Center at St. Edwards University provides one-stopservice or students by trained medical and counseling proessionals. The center isconveniently located in Lady Bird Johnson Hall, right in the heart o campus in theuniversitys residential village.

    HEALTH SERvICES

    Health Services is able to treat a majority o the illnesses, injuries and medicalconcerns o students who seek services. Health Services is staed by licensed

    medical proessionals and provides condential no-cost and low-cost services toSt. Edwards University students. For a condential appointment, call Health Servicesat 512-448-8686.

    AFTER-HOURS CARE

    I illness or injuries occur ater hours, a registered nurse may be contacted at512-324-3467 to discuss the situation. I emergency care is needed, please call911 or University Police at 512-448-8444. 24-hour emergency care is provided atSouth Austin Hospital, 901 W. Ben White Blvd. (512-447-2211), or University Medical

    Center at Brackenridge, 601 E.15th St. (512-324-7000). Local urgent care acilitiesinclude Texas Med Clinic, 9900 S. IH-35 (512-291-5577), and MedSpring UrgentCare, 208 W. Ben White Blvd. (512-861-8060).

    COUNSELING SERvICES

    The counseling service providers address a multitude o concerns through short-term counseling and consultation to help students adjust to and succeed incollege. All appointments are ree and condential and scheduled with licensed

    proessionals, supervised trainees and postdoctoral psychologists. For acondential appointment, call Counseling Services at 512-448-8538.

    Hilltopper Cars

    The Hilltopper Card is the universitys ocial orm o identication. It entitles studentsto services and privileges such as access to dining plan unds, the library, admissionto events, recreational acilities, check cashing and voting in campus elections.Hilltopper Cards also provide access to the students assigned residence hall.

    Hilltopper Cards are issued by Auxiliary Services. Lost or stolen cards shouldbe reported immediately to Auxiliary Services during regular business hours andthe Ragsdale Center inormation desk ater business hours. Reporting a lost orstolen card will allow sta to suspend privileges on the card immediately, avoidingunauthorized use. Privileges cannot be reinstated to a card unless a new cardhas been issued. There is a $10 charge or a replacement card. Students maydeactivate missing cards at hilltoppercar.com.

    Students are responsible or unauthorized use o a lost card until the card has been

    reported as missing. Using the Hilltopper Card o another person, allowing anotherperson to use your Hilltopper Card, and altering or intentionally tampering withthe Hilltopper Card may result in disciplinary action. Cards may be conscated byuniversity ocials in cases o misuse.

    TOPPER TENdER

    An option or all residents, Topper Tender is valid in South Congress Market, MeadowsCoeehouse, the university bookstore, the Quick Dip convenience store, and manyon-campus vending and copy machines. Topper Tender may also be used in some o-

    campus restaurants and other venues. Topper Tender is valid on a year-round basis.The Topper Tender Plan is purchased through Auxiliary Services with a minimumdeposit o $25. Payments can be made online by parents and students.

    an internal phone system, which does not accommodate third-party or collect calls.Individual long distance service is arranged by the residents with a long-distancecarrier.     Programs an Eents

    The Residence Hall Association (RHA) is made up o students living in the residencehalls and apartments. RHA provides community programming or residential

    students and serves as a resource or individual community Resident EventPlanners (REP).

    In each residential area, there is an REP group that caters to the programmaticneeds o that particular area. This group consists o students living in the hall whoare interested in hosting social and recreational community building events ortheir peers. REPs typically have a president or chie ocer who represents thecommunity at meetings o the universitys RHA. The group works collaborativelyto put on several programs throughout the year. It is a great way to be involved,

    develop your leadership skills and build relationships on campus. An on-campusretreat at the end o September lets REPs, their advisors and RHA come togetherto ocus on teambuilding, leadership and the undamentals o event planning. Weencourage you to talk to your residence director about joining your REP group. Noexperience required!

    Resience Hall an Apartment Policies

    Residential students at St. Edwards University are bound by the expectations andpolicies outlined here as well as in the Student Code o Conduct and Policies.

    This code can be ound on the web at thin.stears.eu/eanofstuents/stuenthanboo/stuenthanboo. All students are encouraged to becomeamiliar with the inormation contained therein.

    Babysitting: Babysitting is not permitted in the residence halls or apartmentsbecause it may create a disturbance to other residents. Residential acilities arenot designed to accommodate children.

    Bathroom Cleaning:

    LeMans,Hunt,Johnson,Teresa,Moreau,Dujari,CasaandApartmentsResidents are responsible or the regular cleaning o private bathrooms.

    EastCustodialcleansthecommunitybathrooms;however,residentsare

    responsible or cleaning up ater themselves. Do not leave trash or personal itemsin the showers or toilet area.

    Bicycles: Residents must park bicycles on the bicycle racks provided throughoutcampus or store them in their own room or apartment. Bicycles should not be

    parked in hallways or stairwells, or propped against railings, buildings or trees.The University Police Department will remove improperly secured bicycles and theuniversity will not be liable or any missing bicycles.

    Candles, Incense, Halogen Lamps and Cooking Appliances: All open heatingelements and open fames are prohibited in the residence halls. Exceptionsinclude coee makers, small rerigerators and low-wattage microwave ovens. Dueto re and saety reasons, candles, incense and halogen lamps are not allowed inthe residence halls AND university apartments. This includes unlit candles.

    Changing Residence: Changing residence in a residence hall or apartmentwithout written authorization rom the residence/apartment director is prohibited.Only those residents listed on the housing contract are authorized to reside in theresidence hall room or apartment. There is a $75 charge i an unauthorized moveoccurs. There may also be disciplinary action.

    Chemicals: Possessing or using any chemical or other dangerous substance thatmay cause injury or damage is not permitted in any residential acility.

    Community Areas: All residents share responsibility or the environment in whichthey live. Students share responsibility or the general condition and cleanlinesso the public areas including urniture, carpet and xtures. This also includesthe general condition and cleanliness o courtyards, parking lots and groundsaround each building and the apartment area Clubhouse. Houseeepers angrounseepers are responsible for routine cleaning an upeep only. They

    are not expecte to clean up excess trash or other messes.

    Residents or visitors not using community areas or their intended purposes willbe asked to leave. Residents and visitors should dispose o all trash and useequipment properly. In the interest o the saety o the entire residential community,any suspicious activity in community areas should be reported to a sta member

    or University Police immediately.

    Christmas Trees: Due to re hazard, live Christmas trees are not permitted inresidential spaces.

    Damages (within the community or surrounding area): When damage occursin a community area such as lobbies, community bathrooms, hallways and lounges,every attempt is made to identiy the person(s) responsible. I the person(s)responsible cannot be identied, the entire community (foor, apartment, wing

    or hall) is held accountable. Community damages such as broken ceiling tiles,missing urniture, discharged or missing re extinguishers, grati, holes in walls andincidents that require additional custodial services are billed to the entire community(apartment, foor, wing or hall) i the responsible person(s) cannot be identied.

    Damages (inside rooms or apartments): Residents are responsible or thegeneral condition o their room or apartment. Spaces must be let in the samecondition as at the time o move-in. Normal wear and tear excluded, charges willbe assessed or damages incurred during the residents stay. I neither student

    accepts responsibility or damages in the common area o a residence hall roomor apartment, all residents residing in the room or apartment will be charged thecost o damages. Please report any damages or spills to hall or apartment staimmediately. Early reporting o damages may preclude damages becoming worse or example, early reporting o spills may acilitate removal o rug stains thatotherwise could not be removed.

    Decorations: All acilities including walls, carpets, doors, appliances, lightxtures, downspouts, etc., are property o the university. The room or apartment

    should be let in the same condition in which it was ound at check-in, withreasonable allowances or wear and tear. Painting or wallpapering is not allowed.Students are not allowed to install ceiling ans. Nothing should be attached to theceilings. For re saety reasons, abrics, fags, netting and other materials shouldnot be draped over or near lights or lamps.

    To reduce the likelihood o paying damage charges, residents are encouraged toonly use painters tape (blue tape) and/or push pins to hang items on the walls.Some adhesive hooks damage the walls and i one uses them, one risks paying

    or any damages they cause.

    Stickers mounted on residence hall property such as doors, windows, walls,ceilings and foors are not allowed. Damage charges will be assessed or theremoval o the items. Nothing should be secured to the room doors.

    Fire and Safety Equipment: The ollowing are prohibited: ailure to evacuate whenthe re alarm is activated; setting a re in a residential acility or areas associatedwith the acility; alsely reporting a re; using re equipment other than or theprevention or control o a re; and damaging or removing the re equipment,

    including but not limited to re alarms, re extinguishers, re extinguisher boxes,smoke detectors, re hoses and any other saety devices.

    Furniture, Carpet and Fixtures: All urniture must remain in the room to which itwas assigned and be treated with care. The urniture in the lounges and commonspace is or everyones use. Students are expected to care or not abuse urniture. Removing, without proper authorization rom the residence director, anyproperty rom its assigned place, including soas, chairs, tables, microwaves, TVs,etc., is prohibited. Please report any damages or spills to the hall sta.

    Some resident rooms and foor lounges are equipped with sinks. Please do not putood or other oreign objects down the drain. This creates plumbing problems orFacilities sta and also inconveniences the hall residents.

    Grills (Apartments): Outdoor cooking is not permitted on the apartment patiosor balconies due to re hazard, but it is allowed on the grills provided by theuniversity in the courtyard area. No cooking grills o any kind including gas,charcoal or electric grills can be used or stored in any university apartment or

    apartment balcony or patio. I a grill is observed on the balcony or patio or in anyapartment, all apartment residents are subject to a $50 ne and a $10 chargeper day or additional days until the owner can arrange to remove the grill romuniversity property. The ne will be deducted rom the residents deposit. Anydamages caused by the grill will be deducted rom the residents deposits inaddition to the above nes.

    Heaters: Space heaters, whether electric or kerosene, are not allowed in theresidence halls and apartments.

    Keys and Lockouts: Students will be issued a room/apartment key whenchecking into the hall or apartment. This key is not to be loaned or duplicatedor any reason. I a student loses a room key, a replacement key will be issuedby a resident assistant or residence director and must be returned within72 hours. I the lost room key is not ound within 72 hours, the lock will bechanged and the students will be charged a $35 lock-change ee, plus a $15per key replacement ee.

    I a student is locked out o his or her room between 7 p.m. and 8 a.m., the studentshould contact the resident assistant on-call at 512-342-4100. I the lockout occursbetween 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., the student should see their residence director orassistance. I a hall sta member cannot be reached during business hours, thestudent should contact Residence Lie at 512-448-8419 or UPD ater hours at 512-448-8444 (24-hour emergency) or 512-448-8477 (Non-emergency).

    Noise: Causing or otherwise contributing to excessive noise in the apartmentcomplex or residence halls or areas associated with the apartment complex orresidence halls is not allowed. Excessive noise intereres with or has the potentialto interere with the legitimate rights o others. Contact the residence hall or

    apartment sta to report excess noise.

    Quiet Hours: 10 p.m.8 a.m. dailyCourtesy Hours: 24 hours a day

    Parking: Residents who have vehicles must go to the Hilltoppper ID Card Oce tobe issued a parking permit or a ee that is additional to tuition and housing costs.Parking is provided near all residential acilities as well as the campus parkinggarage. Visitor parking is provided in designated areas on campus. Please park

    only compact cars in spaces designated or them. University Police publishesguidelines or parking lots and vehicle registration. This publication is availablerom University Police.

    Patios, Balconies, Apartment Grounds and Entryways (Apartments): Patios andbalconies must be maintained in satisactory conditions at all times. Hanging itemsrom balcony and patio railings, throwing items rom balconies, and leaving itemson balconies and patios that create unsae or unsightly conditions are prohibited.Cooking on patios and balconies constitutes a re hazard and is prohibited.

    Birdeeders are not allowed. Residents are expected to keep balconies and patios ina sae and presentable condition. They cannot be used to store the ollowing: boxes,broken urniture, garbage and hanging items such as signs or clothes. Trash shouldnot be let outside o apartment entrances. This can attract insects and rodents.There is a $25 charge or trash let on balconies and in entryways.

    Personal Belongings: Tampering with or borrowing the personal belongings oothers without permission is against policy.

    Pets: Having an animal in campus housing is prohibited. Fish and guide dogs arethe only exceptions (no sharks). Fish tanks may not exceed 30 gallons. Residentsand guests are prohibited rom bringing animals into buildings on campus.Violators are subject to a $200 ne and a $10 charge per day or additional daysuntil the pet is removed rom the premises. The ne will be deducted rom theresidents deposit. Any damages caused by the pet will be deducted rom theresidents deposit in addition to the above nes.

    Solicitation: Solicitation by students and/or outside agencies is prohibited in allresidential acilities. Door-to-door selling or recruitment is an invasion o residentsprivacy and is also prohibited. Report solicitors to your resident assistant orresidence director.

    Sports: Engaging in any sports or sport-related activities within the residence hallrooms, lounges, hallways, stairwells or other public areas is prohibited.

    Termination of Housing Contract: Students who have entered into a contractwith Residence Lie will not be allowed to terminate their contract unless theywithdraw rom classes or are required to leave the university or student conductreasons. I a student terminates the housing contract but does not withdraw

    rom all classes, the student may be required to pay that semesters roomees. Students who withdraw rom the university will be required to vacate theirresidence hall within 48 hours o withdrawing. By accepting a room or apartmentassignment (through the online sign-up process), students agree to allSt. Edwards University policies and regulations.

    Theft: The taking o anothers property violates state laws and university policies.Any person caught stealing property rom another will be subject to disciplinaryaction.

    Tobacco: Smoking is prohibited inside all campus buildings including residencehalls and apartments. Smoking is permitted on apartment balconies. Smoking isalso permitted in public courtyards and other outdoor areas as long as one is atleast 15 eet rom any building. Please dispose o cigarette butts appropriately.Cigarette butts are not biodegradable and detract rom the appearance o thegrounds. It is the responsibility o smokers to dispose o their own cigarette butts,not the grounds sta.

    Traffic Signs: Trac signs, as well as state and city directional or inormationalsigns, are not allowed in student rooms or apartments since possession o theseitems is illegal. Signs ound will be turned over to University Police.

    Vandalism: Removing without proper authorization any property rom its assignedplace including urniture, recreational equipment, TVs, computers, etc., isprohibited. Tampering with mailboxes, telephones, laundry equipment, vendingmachines, etc., is also prohibited.

    Water Fights: Water ghts, water balloons and water guns are not allowed in theresidence halls or apartments. Water shall not be thrown into or rom windows, orrom roos in any residential acility. Instigation or participation in such activitiesmay result in disciplinary action and/or community damage charges.

    Water Furniture: Water urniture o any kind is not permitted in any residential acility.

    Weapons, Propulsion Devices and Explosives: Students may not possess anyreworks, explosives, ammunition, gunpowder or any other related materials in

    the residence halls or apartments. Projectile and propulsion devices such asrockets, catapults, slingshots, pellet guns, paint guns or any homemade deviceor the purpose o launching an object are also prohibited. Storage o the aboveitems in vehicles parked on campus is also prohibited. Additionally, any item usedor brandished in a manner that threatens the health and saety o any person orcauses damage or extra clean-up in and around on-campus housing acilities is aviolation o this policy.

    Residents are responsible or their guests and they must be escorted at all times.

    Guests disrupting others or violating policies will be asked to leave. In accordancewith the Code o Conduct, residents may be held accountable or the actions otheir guests.

Overnight guests areexpected to abide by all apartment policies and hosts are responsible or theirguests behavior while in the apartment community. Residents ound violating

    Cohabitation

    Cohabitation is not permitted. Cohabitation is dened as a person staying or anextended period o time, or giving the impression that their visitors are sleeping,showering or living with their host.

    The university will not be responsible or the loss o, or damage to, any personalproperty o a student. The Oce o Residence Lie encourages all students ortheir parents to have personal property insurance that covers students personalpossessions.     Liability

    St. Edwards University will not be liable to residents or residents guests or personalinjury or or damage to or loss o their personal property rom re, food, water leaks,

    rain, etc., unless such injury, loss or damage is caused by the negligence oSt. Edwards University. The university recommends that residents secure their owninsurance to protect against such occurrences.

    In the event the room or apartment assigned to a student is destroyed orrendered wholly uninhabitable and the university does not elect to urnish otheraccommodations, the contract shall be terminated. In the event o such termination,any prepaid room and board ees or rent shall be reunded to the student.

    Fire Safety

    For re saety reasons, candles, incense, simmering potpourri, christmas trees (liveor articial) and appliances with open heating elements are not permitted in the hallsor apartments. Fireworks and gasoline-powered items are prohibited as well.

    Fire drills are conducted periodically in every hall. Procedures or these drills varyor each hall, so check the policy posted in your room. Smoke detectors have been

    placed in each room. I a smoke detector starts to beep, do not remove the battery.Report the problem immediately to a hall sta member.

    APARTMENTS

    Fire saety equipment includes smoke detectors and re extinguishers in eachapartment in case o re. Tampering with re extinguishers and smoke detectorscompromises the saety o the entire apartment community, is a violation o universitypolicy and is subject to serious disciplinary action.

    Safety Features

    University Police patrols the campus 24 hours a day, and an ocer is always available toassist students with their concerns. University Police can be reached at 512-448-8444.

    Residents are responsible or the actions o their guests at all times, as well asescorting them while they are in the building. Room numbers, phone numbers andmailbox numbers are not given out by residence hall sta.

    RESIdENCE HALLSAll exterior doors to the residence halls are locked 24 hours a day to protect thesaety and privacy o hall residents. Only residents residing in a particular hall haveaccess to that hall. Guests should contact the resident that they are visiting to beescorted into the residence hall. In accordance with Residence Life policy, pleaseo not let anyone into the halls unless they are your guests.

    For the saety o all residents, do not prop open any doors to the residential acilities.A person who props a door may be subject to disciplinary action. Also, do not letanyone in the building who is not a resident. This protects everyone who lives in thehall rom danger. Please ask guests to call their riends in the hall rom the courtesy

    phones available outside the ront doors.

    APARTMENTS

    The apartment units are equipped with saety equipment as required by buildingcodes and Texas law. Each entry door is equipped with a keyed deadbolt lock anda keyless deadbolt lock. The sliding glass doors have handle latches and drop bars,and all windows also have latches.

    The apartment complex is located inside the main St. Edwards campus. The

    apartment complex cannot be accessed rom Woodward Street or South CongressAvenue, as the only entrance to the apartments is within the campus.

    Responsibility

    The saety and security o the residence halls and apartment complexes isdependent on the cooperative eorts o the residents, the sta, the Oce oResidence Lie and University Police.

    Residents are expected to cooperate with university sta members perorming theirjob unctions. Residents are expected to practice sae behavior such as keepingdoors and windows locked, being aware o and reporting suspicious behavior, andnot walking alone.

    Residence hall and apartment sta will make routine health and saety inspections oall rooms and apartments. These will be made on all major university breaks and atother times during the semester at the discretion o Residence Lie sta. ResidenceLie sta reserves the right to enter apartments and rooms.

    Residents are expected to respect the rights o the community by using equipmentand acilities in a sae manner, not inviting strangers into the community, notduplicating or loaning keys or combinations, and exhibiting sae and sociallyacceptable behavior in public areas.

    weather Emergencies

    In the event that the university experiences a weather emergency, sta will notiy

    residents through posted signs, email and, i necessary, the use o a public-addresssystem. Please ollow the directions o all Residence Lie sta members. They havebeen trained or such emergencies and are looking out or the saety and security oall residents. In cases o weather emergencies, please stay tuned to a local news orweather channel.
