DAY 5: HEHO (INDAING, INLE LAKE)Inle lake is so rich for photography by popular demand we have added an extra day to the tour here.Upon your arrival at Heho airport, you will proceed on a comfortable 45 minutes to an hour ride by road to Inle Lake.

Inle lake is a fresh-water lake in the State of Shan with a surface area of 116 square km and is inhibited by about 70,000 majority ethnic Intha people, many living in simple stilt houses of timber or bamboo in villages bordering and on the lake. Here an excursion by long tail boat awaits you. You will be greeted by the stunning and serene beauty of Inle Lake and its friendly and obliging inhabitants. The long tail boat weaves smoothly through floating gardens, Burmese cheroot making and traditional weaving ‘factories’ as well as numerous villages on stilts. We will not miss pulling up alongside the famed local fishermen rowing with one leg wrapped around the oar, and simulaneously fishing with the cone shaped net. All these will present countless magical moments to capture on camera.

DAY 6: HEHO (INDAING, INLE LAKE)After breakfast, take a boat for a cruise on the lake. Pass villages built on stilts in the lake, inhabited by the local Intha people. Along the way observe the leg‐rowing fishermen and see their floating gardens built from strips of water hyacinth and mud, anchored to the bottom of the lake with bamboo poles. In the afternoon, visit Nga Hpe Chaung Monastery, which houses dozens of Shan Buddhastatues. Continue on to Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the lake’s main sanctuary, which contains five sacred Buddha images covered in gold leaf. Explore the local crafts of Inle Lake with a stop at the weaving village of Inpawkhone and a cheroot factory, where typical Burmese cigars are made by hand.Overnight in Nyaung Shwe.

DAY 7: HEHO (INDAING, INLE LAKE)After breakfast, early morning proceed to Sagar which is the main attraction in Sagar is the sunken stupas, 108 old stupas often flooded by water, but it is the natural beauty, friendly people, local lifestyles and serene waterways that make this day trip an unforgettable adventure.

Set off this morning for your lakeside hotel for Sagar, the far southern region of Inle Lake. Very few tourists make the trip down to this region yet it is one of the most beautiful places in the Shan State with the mountains forming a backdrop for the small villages and fishermen on the water. The area was only recently opened to tourists in 2003.

The boat journey takes 2.5‐3 hours but is full of fabulous views and home to many unique species of birds, both indigenous and migratory. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride!

Around 2.30 the boat will begin its journey back to the main section of Inle Lake. Traveling back inthe afternoon the light has shifted and the route looks much different on the return, with differentactivities occurring on the water and in the villages. Transfer to Nyaung Shwe and overnight at hotel in Nyaung Shwe.

DAY 8: HEHO -YANGONSadly, all good things come to an end. After breakfast, you will return to Yangon via a domestic flight from Heho. In Yangon, our tour guide will be at your disposal until your connecting international departure in the later afternoon or evening.

MIKE BROWNE I’ve been a social, industrial and commercial photographer since 1993, have always had a love of travel and new cultures - and passion for sharing my knowledge with others. Which, according to the 1000’s of lovely emails and comments I receive - I’m very good at. I have worked for all kinds of clients from high end weddings to hotels and electronics manufacturers. I have awards from Kodak and Fuji, been sponsored by FujiFilm, had exhibitions displayed by the Romanian Ambassador in London, The Master Photographer’s Association and the Royal Photographic society. Travel photography is my no 1 passion because it involves all photographic disciplines, landscape, portraits, candid, food, close ups – all of it.

17,500 hours of video is watched on my youtube channel each month, I have a teaching qualification and a sense of mischief ;-)

SIMON TAPLINWith his breadth and depth of international experiences across an extensive repertoire of photography genres, Simon Taplin is probably one of the most versatile photographers who confidently embraces a holistic conceptualisation approach in visual presentation. Patient and sensitive to his students’ needs, he has a knack for transforming the most technical jargon into easy-to-understand analogies that help ensure their learning is memorable and fun at the same time. With a strong classical training from Salisbury College of Art & Design, Simon’s career began in London, where he worked with some of the finest photographers from whom he gained holistic knowledge and skills across extensive areas of photography. Moving to Asia in 2002, Simon then worked for Shooting Gallery Asia, one of Southeast Asia’s premier photography studios where his unique marriage of technical and creative skills were sought by the world’s leading advertising agencies including JWT, Saatchi & Saatchi, Leo Burnett, BBDO and Corbis. His clients’ list also includes Unilever, P&G, Nokia, Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, MasterCard and Heineken. Simon has certainly created a lasting impression with industry awards and lists from D&AD, The One Show, Communication Arts and publications in Luerzer’s Archive, and the best in stock imagery photography awards Photo District News 2011.

FAQsWHAT LEVEL OF SKILL AS A PHOTOGRAPHER DO I NEED?A: Photographers of all skill levels will benefit from one of our trips. If you are an absolute beginner then we’ll startwith the basic and build up your skills with guidance and tutoring in the field as we go.

If you are an advanced amateur or even professional, you’ll benefit from the richness and culture of the destinations we travel to. In addiition there will be ample opportunitiy to share and review feedback from your professional men-tors and peers on the trip.

WHAT SORT OF TUITION IS PROVIDED?A: You will be travelling with professional photographers at all times whose sole job is to help you improve yourphotography. Tuition and workshops generally occur in the field (as well as over lunch, over dinner, on the bus, train or plane) and will vary depending on the skills of the photographers. Needless to say we eat sleep and breath photography on these trips.

We also hold regular review/critique sessions of each person’s work and we find these feedback and peer review sessions to be invaluable.

Through peer interaction and the mentors’ on-going guidance, we are confident you will develop a new perspective that will help you “see” new images as we wander the streets and push you to step outside your comfort zone.

I DON’T HAVE A FANCY DSLR. DOES THAT MATTER?A: Photography is often more about the person behind the camera than the camera itself. There’s no doubt aDSLR will help you in certain situations and will give you flexibility in others, however it is not absolutely necessary. We would however recommend a camera that has at least a manual control capability.

On the tour, your expert mentors will guide and help you better understand your tool (camera), enhance your techni-cal skills and creativity to maximize your potential in photography as you shoot on the tour.

WHAT’S THE STANDARD OF ACCOMMODATION LIKE?A: Accommodation varies depending on the trip but in general we stay at the best Hotels that value has to offer forthe trip. All hotels are good, safe and clean on all our trips.

ARE MEALS INCLUDED?A: Breakfast included. Lunch & diner/drinks are at own cost.

FAQsIS THERE ANY FREE TIME INCLUDED?A: Yes, some free time is included on most trips. Of course we politely hint that you might still want to take your camerawith you when you head out.

HOW FIT DO I NEED TO BE?A: Whilst it depends on the trip, you generally only need a good level of fitness. The trekking is not difficult but we do spendmany hours on our feet, whether hiking or walking the streets.

DO I NEED INSURANCE?A: Yes. All guests must have personal travel insurance . As you may have expensive camera equipment and a laptop wesuggest you take a close look at your coverage for these items if lost or broken.

DO I NEED TO PAY FOR ENTRANCE FEES OR LOCAL TRANSPORTATION?A: The tour package price is inclusive of all entrance fees and local transportation. However, it does not includetips for the tour guide and bus driver. You are not obligated to tip. Tips are reward given to them for providing you with good service. The amount of the tip is entirely at your discretion.

WHAT SORT OF EQUIPMENT WILL I NEED TO TAKE?A: An equipment list will be provided for all trips when booking.

CAN I GET A VISA ON ARRIVAL?A: Yes you can, but it is USD $100 as opposed to $30 if you go to the Myanmar Embassy,WE STRONGLY RECCOMEND you obtain your visa in advance. Travel visa is valid for 3 months on date of issue.

WHAT CURRENCY IS COMMONLY ACCEPTED & HOW MUCH MONEY SHOULD I EXCHANGE?A: Myanmar’s national currency, the kyat (pronounced chat). The best rates are obtained at Yangon International airport.

US Dollars are best exchanged, but make sure you have clean un-torn bills otherwise they will not be accepted. USD $150 will be more than enough for expenses unless you are going to do gift shopping. Don’t worry about having excess Kyat at the end of your trip, as you can easily exchange them into US dollars or selected home currencies at the airport.

Myanmar is only just starting to introduce ATMs, and even then only in Yangon and major tourist hubs. Currently these should not be relied upon, and participants should bring enough US dollars to cover their entire trip when they enter Myanmar.
