Guidelines
1. The competition is open to students between the ages 16 21 years, and has been divided into thefollowing 2 groups. The entries can be in both Hindi and English.

12.Your essay will be judged based on the criteria outlined below.

13.The essay will be disqualified if:a. It is not on the topic.b. It is illegible & untidy.c. It relies solely on Internet research.d. It doesnt propose solutions.e. It reaches the regional office after the deadline of 23rd October, 2009.f. It plagiarizesthat is, uses someone else's statements or ideas as your own.g. The Title Page is not complete.
14.WWF-India and MoEF will have rights on the submitted essays and use the essay either in soft or hardcopies for publishing in part or full with due credits to the author.
15.The competition is open ONLY to students holding a valid passport. Please attach a photocopy ofthe participants passport (first & last page) with the essay and send it by post / courier to your
relevant regional office before 23rd
October 2009.
16.The winners will be announced on 21st November, 2009. The Judges decision will be final and enquirieson prizes will NOT be entertained.

The Process
1. Schools will select and send a maximum of ONLY 4 essays, i.e. maximum of 1 essay from each groupand each language to the respective regional panel.
2. Qualified experts selected by MoEF & WWF at the regional offices, will then select the best 3 essaysfrom each state in each group and each language.
3. The regional panel will send the best essay from each state, group and language to the central panel (NewDelhi).
4. Following this, the central panel will choose the best 3 essays in each group and language, making a totalof 12 winners.
Awards
1. Out of the 12 winners, the top 4 winners (1 from each group and language), will win an opportunity to bea part of COP 15 - The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to be held in
Copenhagen, Denmark from December 7 18. The winners will leave for Copenhagen on 6th December,

2. Certificates + Trophies will be sent to the remaining state winners.3. Only Certificates will be sent for the state runners-up.
MOEF & WWF-India reserve the right to present no awards at the state and national levels, or toreduce the number of awards if an insufficient number of deserving entries is received.
The decisions of the judges are final. Please do not call for information about the status of your essay.

We recommend that each school appoints a teacher as a Coordinator to conduct the competition.
Role of the Coordinator -
The contest coordinator is the key contact between students, the Regional Office, MoEF and WWF-India. The
school can hand-over all the information sent by the MoEF and WWF-India to the coordinator. The coordinator
can then choose to brainstorm the topic among the relevant age groups before the competition is held. It couldalso be integrated into the classroom curriculum for better understanding of the topic.
The coordinator:
1. Receives the topics for the essay and forwards it to the students prior to the competition to facilitateresearch / brainstorming / classroom discussion or any such sort of preparation.
2. Confirms the schools participation to the relevant Regional Office before 7th October, 2009 via phone,fax or email.
3. Chooses how the competition will be conducted in the school. It is mandatory for the students to writethe essays in the school premises.
4. Ensures the completion & proper evaluation of the competition before 16th October, 2009.5. Oversees the evaluation process.6. Ensures that the essays are conceived and written by the students and represent the students' own
thoughts.
7. Reviews and ensures that the name and other details of the Student, School & Coordinator are mentionedONLY on the title page and nowhere else on the essay pages.
8. Reviews the essays to ensure that students have followed the guidelines, check for grammatical andtypographical errors.
9. Selects the best essay in each group and each language.10.Submits stapled, legible, collated copies of a maximum of 4 essays (2 from each Group and each
language), along with the completed title page (1 for each entry).
11.Ensures that the essays reach the Regional Office by post / courier before 23rd October, 2009.
