Faculty Development Program (FDP)

Day 1 of FDP:

1. On the first day of training the participants were given a detailed walk -through of the program framework via multiple discussion sessions.

2. The participants got a visibility into the program curriculum andunderstood the career connect of the same from student’s perspective.

3. Participants also discussed the challenges that they may encounter in theprogram and arrived at possible solutions to these.

4. Program Delivery formats and different resource support that is availableto the faculty and students was introduced.

The Faculty Development Program is a two day workshop for select facultymembers of the colleges under the auspices of GTU. The workshop walked throughthe entire program curriculum, and enabled participants to explore the “contributor”personality. It also explored the challenges of assimilation in a program which is notabout knowing but about growing; which is not about teaching but about facilitating.

The workshop familiarized participants with the program study books and the onlineweb service which supplements classroom learning. Mock sessions were held underexpert guidance so that faculty could improve their delivery capability before actuallyrunning the program for students.

Feedback from FDPparticipants

“It would make them consciousnot only how to have more butalso how to offer more and makethis world a better place to live in.”“As teachers, our role does notand should not end with thedevelopment of technicalcompetence. The fundamentalidea is that every student has apotential and the job of a teacheris to help student expand hiscapacity and make him/hercontributive and not acquisitive.

Feedback from FDPparticipants

“I have been retrospecting for thepast 2 days on what mycolleagues & I have been doing inour college. Few of theparticipants sitting in this room aremy colleagues from college. Theyhave been involved in organizingvarious extra-curricular activitiesin my college. Honestly I neverthought that such activities addedany value to the students. Aftergoing through this workshop, Ithink that these activities do havea relationship with the student’sdevelopment and these teachershave been in their own waycontributing to the institute.I too have been contributing inteaching, placement activities etc.but today I realize that there aremany more areas where I cancontribute more to my studentsand my institute.”

When we do our engineering,MBA, and other PG courses westart thinking that we have learnteverything in life. These 2 dayshave taught me that there is somuch more to learn in order tobecome better and add morevalue. It is a difficult process andwill require lot of perseverance butthe impact will be long lasting

Feedback from FDPparticipants

I have a confession to make and itis very hard for me to be sayingthis here. I have been a lecturer inthe government sector for 12years. When I enter the class, Itake the lecture extremelysincerely and try to take as muchinterest as possible in my studentsso that they learn and improve. But as soon as I leave the class Ido not think about the students atall. Infact, I don’t even believe thatany kind of improvement will evertake place in the students. Afterattending this 2-day trainingprogram , I have decided to caremore about my students andabout their turning into betterhuman beings. I will try to do morethan what I used to do and addmore value to my students

Dipak Chitania, SB Polytechnic Savli, FDP 3(Vadodara)

It was a nice 2 days experience.Having spent so much time in thisfield, I realize that all theseconcepts were always known butthey were scattered all over.Through this workshop, theseconcepts came together in astructured format. I now feelenabled to analyze and categorizethese different concepts. This willhelp me guide my students to lookfor such qualities in people andidentify acts of Contribution.

Feedback from FDPparticipants

I have always admired SwamiVivekananda and his works butwhen I stepped into this program,I had no visibility about what thisinitiative was all about and whatcould be expected of it.But, these 2 days were anextremely interesting experienceof introspection, learning conceptsand to reach out to students beinga contributor and this is veryfascinating. I am sure from nowon, I am going to be conscious ofmy every action and ask myselfwhether I am contributing or not.And to translate all these for ourstudents, I think it is a beautifulexperience that we have got.

I am a technical faculty and hencewhen I was nominated for thisworkshop, I was wondering how Ican teach this course to mystudents (6th Semester MCAstudents). But after attending thisworkshop, I feel confident that Iwill be able to do a decent job withthe support of these facilitators.I request GTU that whenever theyintroduce a new subject toarrange such kind of a facilitatordevelopment workshop so thatfaculty can understand the topicbefore reaching out to thestudents

The 2 day workshop helped ussee the shift from the old world ofteaching to the new world offacilitation. What I learnt was thatone need not be very influential orpowerful to contribute. Everyindividual is capable ofcontribution
