The contribution of the internet to gun

and knife crime in the UK

What is gun and knife crime?Gun and knife crime can mean people carrying knives and guns, who may use them to threaten people. It can also mean robberies or other crimes, carried out by a person or people carrying a gun or knife or pretending to do so. Gun and knife crime also includes stabbings or shootings where a person is injured or may even die.

Gangs to blame for gun and knife crime ?

Rhys Jones was shot dead in a pub car park in the Croxteth district on his way to football practice on August 22. Police say Rhys was caught in the crossfire between local teen gangs, but have not named a suspect.According to reports today, comments underneath a YouTube video posted by the Strand Gang, neighbouring rivals of the self-styled Croxteth Crew, name a local youth as the shooter. The four-minute clip now appears to have been removed by YouTube admins. It showed hooded gang members brandishing guns, and had attracted more than 10,000 views.

Facts and Figures

2007-2008 there was 277 deaths from stabbings in England & Wales alone (the highest recorded figure for 30 years.)

Many incidents are simply never reported to the police (some estimate that as many as 4 out of every 5 incidents go unreported), and are therefore not included in the reported crime statistics and the crimes become unknown which therefore makes it harder for something to be done.
