Gun Safety & Cleaning Instructions

ALWAYS CHECK AND MAKE SURE THE PISTOL IS UNLOADED BEFORE STARTING THE CLEANING PROCESS.

FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS WARNING COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

Things to know before cleaning:

• Always check to make sure your pistol is unloaded before cleaning. • Inspect your gun as you clean. • Check your Pistol for wear and cracks when you clean. • Consult a qualified gunsmith for any necessary repairs. • Don't disassemble your pistol more than instructed in Field Strip Disassembly for Normal Maintenance

in FN509 Owner’s Manual. • Refer to the owner’s manuals for instructions. • Follow Disassembly (11.1) and Reassembly (11.2) instructions described in FN509 Owner’s Manual

How To Cleaning Guide and Cleaning Recommendations:

• When using Pro-Shot 1-Step Gun CLP, let the saturated barrel with cleaner set for approximately 10-15 minutes, this allows the penetrating agents and additives time to break down and lift up the fouling from the surface.

• A spear tip jag is the most superior way to remove fouling from the bore because it gives the patch constant pressure against the bore. Always spear the patch in its center during the cleaning process.

• Use the appropriate size brush or jag. Pro-Shot bore brushes and Spear Tip jags are caliber specific.

• Always finish with dry cleaning patches in the barrel before Reassembly.

• In your Brinks FN509 cleaning kit, you will find a T-Handle Pistol Rod, bore brush, spear tip jag, double end utility brush, 1 Step CLP needle oiler bottle, bore light, and cleaning patches.

Disassembly & Barrel Cleaning

1) First, disassemble the FN509 into four parts as owner’s manual instructs in section 11.1.

(Frame, Barrel, Slide, and Recoil Spring)

2) Attach Spear Tip Jag to the end of the Cleaning rod, Spear patch in its center, and Saturate the cleaning patch with 1 Step CLP.

3) Push the saturated cleaning patch from the breech to the muzzle end. (same direction as the bullet travels)

*Repeat this step at least 4-6 times with well saturated cleaning patch down the barrel.

Cleaning Tip: Let the 1 Step CLP soak in the barrel approximately 10-15 minutes after using saturated patches, this will help loosen the fouling and reduce the time it takes when cleaning with the bore brush.

Clean your FN509 pistol in the same direction as the bullet travels (from breech to muzzle end).

4) Remove the Spear Tip Jag, and attach the bore brush.

Push the brush all the way through the barrel in one motion, Do Not Reverse the bore brush in barrel.

*Repeat this process 5-10 times, or as necessary for heavily fouled barrels.

5) Re-attach the Spear Tip Jag and pass clean patches down the bore until they emerge as clean.

*For Heavy fouled barrels, it may be necessary to Repeat steps 3,4, and 5 and follow with dry cleaning patches.

*Pro-Shot 1Step CLP has a rust preventative additive, so it is not necessary to follow up with additional lubrication for the Bore which makes your cleaning process faster & easier.

Check for visible signs of fouling 6) Use the Pro-Shot Illuminator Bore Light to check the barrel. *You should see the rifling in the barrel with no visible signs of fouling or debris from the cleaning process. Cleaning (Slide and Action)

7) Use a double end nylon bristle utility brush saturated with cleaning solvent and scrub areas where powder residue and fouling build up. Excess fouling and debris can be removed and with cotton patch or cloth.

Lubrication Points

8) As per FN509 owner’s manual, be sure to lightly lubricate all points as in Figure 61 above. This also includes surfaces that have been cleaned and all moving parts. This will aid in rust prevention as well as increase the life of the firearm. Do not over lubricate, this can cause the action to become gummy, allowing dust and debris to collect. *Use 1 Step CLP on lubrication points to protect all moving part and inhibit rust. Do not over lubricate, a light coating is sufficient.

Reassembly After reassembling the gun per FN509 Reassembly instructions in section 11.2 of the owner’s manual. Wipe Down Outside of FN509 Pistol 9) Take a cleaning patch lightly saturated with 1 Step CLP and wipe down all exposed metal surfaces. Wipe off any excess CLP after this process with cotton patch or cloth. This will provide rust and corrosion protection and remove fingerprints.

10) SAFETY DURING CLEANING PROCESS Safety is always used throughout the cleaning procedure, when you have completed this process, place the Bore Light into the chamber to show the FN509 Pistol is safe and unloaded.
