IQAC REPORT FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2017-2018
Departmental Activities:
The English department started its literary journey with one day Seminar on the topic
Speak to win by Dr. Bennyson Thilagar Christadoss , Assistant Professor of English,
St. John’s College, on 15th
July 2017. Office bearers of ELITE association were
and Dr.Bennyson motivated students through his magnificient speech with superb
phonics. The admired students interacted with him eagerly.

On 26.07.2017, The Department of English organized Guest Lecture on the topics
regarding Communication Skills for PG carried out by Ms. Gomathy.
The department of English has conducted Buddy Project in trial basis to improve the
language skills of the students. 5 students were selected as Trainers. Each trainer have
been allotted 5 first year students as trainees. Nearly 30 hours classes were handled
ultimately it was found that language skill of the trainees has improved.
The 27 students of UG & PG went to Book Exhibition in Madurai on 12th
September 2017.
On 17th
September 2017, nearly, 90 students of English department visited Connemara
Library, which is considered one of the four National Depository Libraries.
On behalf of English Literary Association, we conducted a Guest Lecture on the topic
Inraiya Thalaimuraiyum Vaasippum on 16 Feburary 2018 by the famous Tamil Writer
Koohai Mr. Cho. Dharman.

On behalf of English Literary Association, we piloted a Guest Lecture on the topic
Indian Diasporic Literature on 26 February 2018 by Mrs.S.Jayanthi, Assistant professor
of English, Sr. S. Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College, Sattur.

The Department of English organized one day State Level Workshop on Subaltern
Literature with Special Focus on Latin American and African Literature on 8th
March
2018. The sessions were meritoriously taken out by the Resource Persons,
Dr. R. Chakkaravarty, Associate Professor & Head, G.T.N Arts College, Dindigul
and Dr. A. Rama Subbiah, Assistant Professor in English & NAAC Co-ordinator ,
Mannar Thirumalai Naickar, Madurai. In the morning session Dr. R. Chakkaravarty
threw lights on Latin American Literature with examples of many American writers.
Later in the afternoon session Dr. A. Rama Subbiah delivered his speech on African
Literature with reference to Maya Angelou’s “Phenomenal Woman” and Chinua
Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart” one of the best novels in literature. He compared African
Literature with Realism.

The department of English conducted Literary Jamboree 2018, on 28th
February
2018 and various competitions were steered such as Essay Writings, Just a Minute, ,
Flameless Cooking, Elocution, Literary Parade and Dance in which our department
students eagerly participated and won prizes in these events.
Extensive Activities:
On 17th
October 2017, 60 students from English department went to the Orphanage
& mentally retread people’s home situated in Ettayapuram for distributing lunch
and snacks through the fund collected by Candy Trust formed by English
department students.

Students’ Achievements:
The PG students of English department went to VVV College, Virudhunagar to
participate in Lit – Mirida 2K18 Intercollegiate Fete on 02 March 2018.
G.Kanagapraba of II MA won the Third prize in Pictrure Poetry.
Students of III BA English, V. Soundara Nayaki, G. Kowsalya, and S. Keerthana
of I BA English has actively participated and won First ,Second and Third
respectively in the All India Essay Writing Event 2017, organized by Shri
Ram Chandra Mission ( SRCM) & United Nations Information Centre For
India & Bhutan.
UG & PG students of English actively participated in the National Conference
on Indian Writing in English: A Literary Upheaval held on 9th
February, 2018,
organized by Department of English, Sri Sarada College for Women, Tirunelveli.
English students from UG & PG have actively participated in Inter-Collegiate
Literary Competition BELITERY ’18 on 23.02.2018 and A. Suwetha of I B.A.,
English won the Second place in MANNEQUIN OPUS, organized by Department
of English, Don Bobsco College of Arts & Science, Keela Eral.
The students from I B.A. English A. Subathra, R.Renuga Devi and B. Midhuna,
have actively participated in the Application of Science and Technology In
Rural Areas , catalyzed and supported by Tamilnadu State Council For
Science And Technology, Chennai and organized by Entrepreneurship
Development Cell , G. Venkataswamy Naidu College, Kovilpatti.
A. Suwetha from I B.A., English participated in FROLIC- 2017 and won the First
prize in Management Games, held on 30th August, 2017, organized by
Department of Business Administration.
B. Midhuna from I BA participated in Group Dance – Folk competition FISFEST
2018 an Intercollegiate Cultural Competition, organized by Students’ Association,
Fisheries College And Research Institute , Tuticorin on 23rd February 2018.
S. Krishna Kavi Malar, R. Muruga Lakshmi, P. Thamarai Santhiya and M. Meena
from I B.A., English has dynamically participated in the 4 days Camp, organized
by Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari.
A. Suwetha and A. Subathra from I B.A., English participated in Connexion and
won First Prize in the celebration of Poke Fete ’17 on 14.09.2017, organized by
Department of Computer Science. G. Venkataswamy Naidu College ( SFC),
Kovilpatti.
V. Devika and B. Midhuna, from I B.A., Englis participated in Connexion and
won Third Prize in the celebration of Poke Fete ’17 on 14.09.2017, organized by
Department of Computer Science. G. Venkataswamy Naidu College (SFC),
Kovilpatti.
Faculty Achievements:
Ms. S.Brintha , Assistant Professor of English , has cleared National Level Eligibility
Test ( NET) in this academic Year .
Mrs.K. Jayalakshmi, Assistant Professor of English, has registered her Ph.D, on the
thesis topic, Home, Diaspora, Interpersonal Realationship in Jumpha Lahiri’s Novels,
Madurai Kamaraj University.
G.Kameshwari, G. Prince Rathina singh, M.Marichamy, and S.Pravin Kumar acted
as a judge of Essay Writing (English) and Elocution (English), which was organized by
The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Manonmaniam Sundaranar
University on 08th
March 2018.
G.Kameshwari delivered valedictory address on Media and Literature in the
valedictory ceremony of Don Bosco college of Arts & science on 27th
March 2018
