Sweden: Skangass to build LNG terminalThe Swedish Government(Länsstyrelsen in Dalarnas Län) hasgranted Skangass, subsidiary ofFinnish energy company Gasum, thepermission to build and operate anew terminal for LNG within theharbor in Gävle, Sweden. Thepermission is given for a storingcapacity of 30,000 m3 LNG and ahandling of up to 500,000 tons LNGeach year. The planned terminal is an importantpart of the expansion of LNGinfrastructure in Sweden and theBaltic Sea. The environmentaladvantages of using LNG instead ofoil based fuel within shipping, industry and heavy transportationare substantial. Sulphur and particleemissions are reduced to almostzero, nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissionis reduced by 85-90% and the carbondioxide (CO2) is reduced by 25%.Skangass aims at starting theconstruction work during next yearand the investment decision willprobably be taken during spring

2015. The terminal will be developedin cooperation with Gävle Hamn thatinvests in building the infrastructurein the harbor area.Earlier this year Gasum announcedthe acquisition of the majority (51%)of Norwegian Skangass distributionservice from the Lyse Corporation.

The purchase was a part of Gasum’sstrategy of improving the availabilityof competitive LNG in The Nordiccountries, which will serve not onlymarine traffic but also the needs ofindustrial clients outside the naturalgas grids and future needs of heavyduty transportation.

The international OEM-produced natural gas-fuelled vehicles (NGV) rally “BlueCorridor-2014” will start on October 7 and break the tape on October 23, 2014.

The overall length of the route will be 3400 km, duration of the marathon —17 days. This year the start of the rally coincides with the opening ceremonyof Saint-Petersburg international gas forum that will take place in ExpoforumConvention and Exhibition center; crossing the finishing line will be linked withanother remarkable event — the 3rd Eurasian innovations and international

integration forum in Verona.

The two major organizers of the rally are Gazprom Export and E.On Global Commodities. The participants of the “Blue Corridor-2014” will drive along the motorways of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania,Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, and Italy. This particular route has been chosen deliberately —many of those states have been already demonstrating significant demand of natural gas as motor fuel; theothers, as expected, will show substantial demand growth in the future. Moreover, huge benefits in thesecountries are linked to the use of natural gas as bunkering fuel for marine vessels.

Round table expert discussions will be held during the stops in Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius, Warsaw, Plzen,Nuremberg, Milan and Verona, where the representatives of gas and car industries, politicians, ecologists andmotor fans will be able to share their views on various aspects of the developing NGV market in Europe.Initially, the “Blue Corridor” rally was arranged by Gazprom Group in 2008. Since 2010 the rally has becomean event of international scale when it was joined by a number of players of the European gas market.

It is worth mentioning that in Milan, Italy, everything is organized in strong collaboration and with support ofNGV Italy.

News,News, Products,Products, TechnologyTechnologyWEH launch a new breakaway coupling - the TSA1 H2 70 MPa for hydrogen filling stations. In the event of accidental deployment by driving a vehicle from a filling station with the nozzleattached to the vehicle fuel port, the TSA1 H2 70 MPa will safely separate the connectionsbetween dispenser and filling hose. Both ends become instantly sealed, preventing an escapeof gas into the atmosphere. But more im¬portantly the whole dispensing system is protected

against damage caused by extreme forces exerted on system components during accidental deployment. Costlystation downtime is avoided. Moreover, the WEH® breakaway offers additional safety to your dispensing equip¬ment. The TSA1 H2 70 MPa is the first hydrogen breakaway with an integrated 20 micron particle filter. This particlefilter protects your system from damage caused by dirt particles in the gas flow. The filter cartridge can easily becleaned and changed for maintenance purposes. As an additional feature the TSA1 H2 70 MPa breakaway includes a dispenser mounting for direct installation at thedispenser, so that no additional hoseis needed. Immediately after an unexpectedseparation the coupling can bereattached in minutes without factoryservicing after a short inspection bythe operator. The system can berestarted immediately thereafter. The TSA1 H2 70 MPa is rated for700 bar refueling and a separationforce of 300 to 600 N and isoptionally available with IR-cable. Thebreakaway is CE certified and testedin compliance with SAE J2600.

Ancap and its subsidiary Alcoholes del Uruguay(ALUR) have presented the four-fuel bio-vehiclesproject, which will be initially implemented intaxis. The technology will make possible the useof domestically produced energy and is expectedto achieve fuel savings of 40% compared toconventional sources, as well as the reduction ofgreenhouse gas emissions.Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining RobertoKreimerman said that the development of suchvehicles is aligned with the goals set by thenational government’s 2005-2030 energy policy, which promotes the use of different clean fuelsources and seeks to raise public awareness ofthe energy grid change. As a result of the analysis of differenttechnologies, Ancap and ALUR found in Fiat’sTetrafuel system one of the most suitableoptions. It operates with four different fuels:hydrous ethanol, gasoline, gasohol and CNG or mixture of any of them in different proportions. The new system has the ability to select the most appropriate fuel for each driving condition and the user does notnotice the change from one fuel to another in the vehicle. Another touted feature is the optimization of engineperformance by providing an automatic selection that anticipates CNG pressure, fuel tank volume, torque demandand process efficiency. The technology allows fuels produced in Uruguay to be used, as in the case of natural gas, which will be takenfrom the regasification plant in Puntas de Sayago.

A Swedish Transport Delegation, includingcompanies such as Ericsson, Gunnebo, VolvoGroup and Scania and led by Ambassador HaraldSandberg and Senior Advisor to the SwedishMinister for Trade Jonas Hafström, is visitingthis week Bangalore, Ahmedabad and NewDelhi. The aim of this visit is to identify areaswithin transport and urban planning withpotential for further collaboration betweenSweden and India. The first bilateral meeting took place yesterday inBangalore with a workshop titled “The Way toSustainable Transport: An Indo-SwedishPerspective”, jointly organized by the Embassy ofSweden and the state government of Karnataka, where Sandberg focused on Scania’s project tobuild a biogas plant in Narasapura industrialarea. “A demo plant will be used to displaytechniques that we use in Stockholm. Ademonstration of how waste can be used to run buses instead of facing landfill problems will be carried out,” hesaid.Speaking on the occasion, Hafström also commented: “Through its innovations, Sweden has continuouslydeveloped companies that can provide sustainable solutions to public and private customers with a high life cycleprofit. One example discussed today was the transportation sector with state-of-the-art green logistics solutionsand technologies.”As reported by New Indian Express, Scania already has a truck factory in Narasapura and is also expected toinstall a bus factory in the coming months.
