PlayCenter ages 6 weeks-6 years: While parents are enjoyingour programs and services at the J. M. Tull-Gwinnett FamilyYMCA, the PlayCenter staff will keep your children safe andhappy. We offer a variety of toys and activities to keep yourchild engaged. Our staff is trained in First Aid and CPR, andhave many years of experience in working with children.

Please personally sign your child in and note the time, yourname and where you will be in the facility, and if your childhas any special instructions, special needs or allergies. Youwill be given a numbered tag at sign-in that must be returned to sign you child out. If your child cries or seems distressed for more than ten minutes, we will notify you soyou may come and assist the staff in calming him/her down.

• This free service is offered to Facility Members only. • 2-hour limit per day (up to 10 hours per week) • It is for children 6 weeks to 6 years. • Picture ID required to drop off and pick up children. • Handbook will be given out when child is registered. • Please label children’s snacks, drinks, coats, bags, wipes, sunscreen and other personal items. • Please notify us of any allergies (food, insect stings) • Please be advised that we are NOT a peanut-free area.

Y After School Enrichment Program grades K-5th: Our Prime Time AEP provides a nurturing and stimulating environment wherechildren experience a curriculum that emphasizes the importance of academic excellence, healthy living and social responsibility. Some such activities includehomework assistance, physical fitness, arts & crafts and character development. Also available during early release days at selectedschools or alternate locations.

Providing care at the YMCA on SugarloafParkway for the following schools: CedarHill, Craig, Jenkins, Lawrenceville, Pharr, Simonton, Starling and Holt. (Transportationprovided by the YMCA or GCPS bus service).

On-site care provided at the following elementary schools: Benefield, Cooper,Grayson, Lovin and Mulberry.

Teen Facility Member Focus Groups ages 13-18:We need your input! The Y would like tofind out more about how our teen membersfeel about service projects and what kind ofprograms would interest you. Youth & Teen Appreciation Week: Join usin Y-Rec for sandwiches, door prizes andcharacter development awards.

Pick-Up Sports: We have a variety of sportsand games offered weekly just for teens.Come play tennis, team handball, basketball and street hockey. No need to register. Just show up dressed appropriatelyto play.

3-on-3 Round Robin Basketball & Volleyball Tournaments ages 13-17: Allteams will be placed into a division based onage and playing ability. There will be male andfemale divisions, but event coordinator reserves the right to combine divisions witheach sex and age group. Water and snack willbe available for all participants.

School Holiday Camps & Early Release Days ages 5-12:Holiday camps provide an opportunity for children to enjoysafe, structured activities during out-of-school time. The teens at the J.M. Tull-Gwinnett Family YMCA are committed to creating a diverse, fun and motivating environment that seeks to serve our peers and the community while promoting our core values of caring,honesty, respect and responsibility. More Info + Register

Teen Night ages 12-17: All teens are welcome! Not only doyou get to hang out with your friends, but you also get toplay games, like basketball and volleyball. Sign up as soon asyou can because the max number of teens allowed is 40, andyou cannot sign up at the door. The YMCA will provide pizzaand drinks. All participants must be pre-registered by atleast the day before.

Welcome to the our new Y Swim Lesson Upgrade. Our “Designate + Evaluate = Accelerate” model makes swim learning and advancement more efficient then ever before!

DESIGNATE – Register by age group.

• Infant & Toddler ages 6 - 36 months A Parent + Child Class!

• Preschool ages 3-5 years

• School-Age ages 6-12 years

• Teen & Adult ages 13+

EVALUATE – Each participant will be skill tested during thefirst class to determine their Stage of Learning

ACCELERATE – Participants are placed according to currentskill level so they can advance quickly through the stages tobecome a confident swimmer.

Ratios Rule: 1:12 for Infant-toddler, 1:4 for preschooland 1:6 for all other lessons ensure participants have atrained instructor at every level and ability to help themprogress through the stages.

Swim Starters: Accompanied by a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortablein the water and develop swim readiness skillsthrough fun and confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about watersafety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision. This group is onlyparent-child lessons for ages 6 months to 3years, and contains the following stages...A – Water DiscoveryB – Water Exploration

Swim Basics: Students learn personal watersafety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills:• Swim, float, swim—sequencing front glide, roll, back float, roll, front glide, and exit• Jump, push, turn, grabThis group is for ages 3 years & older, andcontains the following stages...1 – Water Acclimation2 – Water Movement3 – Water Stamina

Swim Strokes: Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional watersafety skills and build stroke technique, developing skills that prevent chronic disease,increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physicalactivity. This group is for ages 3 years &older, and contains the following stages...4 – Stroke Introduction 5 – Stroke Development (ages 5 + up only)6 – Stroke Mechanics (ages 5 + up only)

Swim Lessons Stages of Learning

Lightning Policy: We close all pools, saunas, steam rooms, and pool decks for 30 minutes following lightning or thunder.

Make–Up Policy: In the event of inclement weather, we will attempt to make up class on Friday. Please make sure we haveyour current email and phone number on file. In the event child misses a lesson, we cannot guarantee credits or refunds.

Private Swim Lessons members only ages 3+: Students receive6 one-on-one half-hour lessons with a certified swim instructor on a monthly basis. Please fill out a registrationform and an instructor will contact you as soon as one becomes available. Ongoing

Gym & Swim coed ages 4-9: Gym & Swim is a program thatuses play to build strength, coordination and flexibility. Theclass includes 30 minutes in the gym and 30 minutes in thepool. Spring, Summer & Fall More Info + Register

Progressive Tumbling girls ages 6-12: Our tumbling classesfocus on the fundamentals of gymnastics on floor. Partici-pants will progress through the program by obtaining skillsappropriate for each level. More Info + RegisterSpring, Summer & Fall

Competitive/Advanced Stroke Clinic ages 6+: This programis designed for current competitive swim teamers or for advanced swimmers desiring a little extra help. Participantswill build endurance, perfect strokes, flip turns and startingdives. Ongoing. More Info + Register

YMCA SWIM TEAM

Blue Dolphins Swim Team ages 5-18: Coaches help swim team members work on all four strokes and techniques.This team focuses on fun, building self-esteem, and prepares children to compete at the next level. The team practices atthe Y and competes against other Y’s in weekend meets. Fall & Winter More Info + Register

Specialty Classes

8 & under: Required skills: Be able to swim atleast one length of the pool freestyle andbackstroke without stopping. Kids build confidence and refine all four competitivestrokes through drills and games, and learnlifelong skills like team work and good sportsmanship both while practicing andwhen competing in swim meets. Great for kidswho have been enrolled in swim lessons.

9-11 year olds: Required Skills: Be able toswim freestyle and backstroke 100 yardswithout stopping and breaststroke and butterfly 25 yards; able to perform and regularly use skills such as flip turns, streamlining, and circle swimming. Kids buildconfidence through learning about goalsetting, and then working towards daily,personal and team goals.

12 & up: Required skills: Be able to swim all 4competitive strokes for at least 100 yardswithout stopping. Swimmers will continue todevelop strokes and endurance.

Summer League Prep ages 5-18: Endurance,strength and conditioning training and a mockmeet for summer swim league. The mock meetwill ensure swimmers have their current timesfor their summer coaches. Spring: MarchMore Info + Register

Blue Fins Academy for ages 5-18: Pre-teamstroke and endurance development. Learn competitive stroke techniques, flip turns andstarting dives to move into our Blue Dolphin Swim Team. Must be able to swim half-length freestyle and float on backto attend. Ongoing More Info + Register

Lifeguard Training ages 16+: This course is designed to giveparticipants the basic knowledge needed to be lifeguards inthe pool, lake, river, surf and waterpark environments. Thecomprehensive course offers up-to-date information on howto guard, anticipate, and prevent problems and take action tohelp those in danger when necessary. It also covers safetyand survival skills every swimmer needs to know, accidentprevention, guarding techniques, emergency systems, rescueskills, first aid in aquatic environments, spinal injury management, weather and open water dangers, legal responsibilities, etc. Course includes first-aid certification,CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and certification in AEDand Oxygen Administration. Complete medical clearance isrecommended. Must be 16 by course start date. Personal Training ages 13+: An individualized program thatis designed to assist you in achieving & maintaining a desired fitness level through strength training, cardiovascular conditioning and weight management. Ourtrainers will educate and motivate you whether you are beginning an exercise program, breaking through a plateau,defeating boredom in your current routine, or conditioningyourself for a competitive event. Group Personal Training ages 13+: A 4-week session with agroup of 4-6 participants which includes strength training,core work and cardiovascular training.

GROUP TRAINING

Parkinson’s Movement Classes: Theses classes are designed for individuals at all stages of Parkinson’s diseaseand wanting to work on cardiovascular fitness, balance,strength and flexibility. Movements can be done in a chair as well as standing and at an intensity level that is self-selected by each participant.

TRX Group Suspension Training: Offeredin a small group setting, TRX uses your ownbody weight and suspension straps to buildstrength, balance, coordination, flexibility,joint stability and core strength. TRX offersa challenge for beginners to advanced.

Better Choices, Better Health®– Diabetesages 18+ with type 2 diabetes: These workshops can help you manage the challenges of living with diabetes.
