DID YOU KNOW?
Gypsum Express has recently joined forces with a third-party platform called WorkHound. WorkHound
focuses on daily driver feedback. It does require a smart phone to use it, but it is not an app. On Thursday of each week, WorkHound sends our
drivers a text message asking how they are feeling on a scale from 1 to 10. From there, it will direct you to a comment box where you can anonymously give feedback. Drivers can access this link for the entire
week. A second text message will go out on Tuesday of each week with our broadcast message. This is a place where we can address some of the concerns that we have received. We read every message that comes in through WorkHound and appreciate our
drivers taking the time to let us know their thoughts and feelings.
If you have any questions about WorkHound, please contact Emily Otte at 219-874-6271 ext. 2829.

equipment up, help a fellow driver, and go the little extra mile. A little help goes a long way. Look around, it is a great program that started with 10-15 trucks and look where John Wight is today. Stick with him and you will always have a great paycheck.”
Thank you, Rodney for 30 great years of service here at Gypsum Express and a lifelong dedication to the trucking industry.
Rodney Dewey’s StoryRodney began his career at Gypsum Express on February 28th, 1988. His driver number is 115. John Wight’s is 110. He pulls Flatbed Doubles out of Baldwinsville, NY after over 30 years with the company. Rodney was referred to the company by former driver Roger Parkhurst whom Rodney had encountered on the NYS Thruway periodically. Roger said he was making good money and thought highly of the company, so Rodney checked us out. He came in on a day off and filled out an application. After accepting the job, he was told to report to work Monday. He had wanted to take a week off between jobs, but showing his commitment from day one, he showed up on Monday. He has been showing up for roughly 1570 Monday’s ever since. The International cabover was one of the first trucks Rodney Drove for Gypsum. He says, “Do what you have to do to get the job done. You have to look at trucking differently, if you don’t have a load you are not making money.”
Rodney’s advice for new drivers starting today is this, “You have to stick with the program. Do good pre-trip inspections, keep your

ON THE ROADDRIVER TIPS AND TRICKS“You have to pay attention to what you are doing and slow down. If someone tells you to hurry up, just continue to go at your pace. Also, no matter how upset you are at your shipper or receiver, you just have to bite your tongue and be nice.” – Don A., Michigan City Driver with 4 years at Gypsum Express
“Leave good tarps on trailers and turn 4-inch straps the right way.” - Tharron W., Savannah Driver with 14 years at Gypsum Express
“One of the things that drivers tend to do is stop early in the day, with too much time left on their clock. If you have enough time, make it to that customer and it will get you more miles at the end of the week.” - Jacob G., Shoals Driver Trainer with 6 years at Gypsum Express
“My best advice as a new driver, making relationships with other truckers is a good thing. Go to sleep at the customer to maximize your hours in a week. Always check in before you pull your truck into the consignee and always watch your mirrors.” -Duncan R., Carrollton Driver with 5 months at Gypsum Express
“Be patient and remember when you’re pulling out in front of someone that there is 48 or 53 feet behind you that needs go out into the intersection as well. Everyone out there thinks that they are on the most important mission in the world. They will do anything to pass you, get by you, or pull out in front of you and if they do play the pass-you game, let them go because the further you are away from them the safer it’ll be for everyone. Patience is key.”
“Something else that is important that no one understands, do your pre-trip. You take care of your equipment because your equipment takes care of you.” - Kirk H., Baldwinsville Driver with 18 years at Gypsum Express

Q & A with Toni B. - Carrollton Service Manager
In the SpotlightDemotte Driver Robert F. retired from the U.S Army / Army Reserve on February 28th after 29 years of Service. To mark the occasion and show our appreciation for his service, Robert’s Driver Manager Stephanie N. presented him with a card of thanks, signed by his coworkers at the Demotte Terminal and a $50.00 gift card. On behalf of Gypsum Express we would like to congratulate Robert on this accomplishment and thank him for his service to our country.
Robert Initially joined the Army in 1979 as a 13b artillery crewman where he
was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Neu-Ulm Germany. Robert went into the Army Reserve in 1987 where he served until his retirement. During that time, he was deployed twice. He served in Iraq in 2004 and later stateside, both in support of operation Iraqi Freedom. Robert has been with Gypsum Express since 2014. The same level of commitment and dedication that made Robert a good soldier for 29 years has made him an excellent employee. IN THE SPOTLIGHTMEET VAN: ALIQUIPPA TERMINAL MANAGER
Van has been the terminal manager at Aliquippa for three and a half years and served as a driver manager before that.
Van believes truck drivers are the hardest working and unappreciated people in
today’s society. As a terminal manager, he is motivated by doing the best he can for
his drivers by getting them home safely for the weekends and by helping them make
an honest living. He is amazed by the sacrifices these drivers make to support their families. He appreciates everything the drivers do for him and the company
as well.
Van started his career in trucking after going to Kent State University when he was 18 as a part time admin person for
JJ Nulfco Trucking as an assistant for the Safety Manager and eventually became
head of safety and recruiting. After JJ Nulfco Trucking partnered with Dart
Trucking Company, he continued on to be the Recruiting and Safety Manager. He
spent 7 years at PGT before being hired on at Gypsum Express. Van has been in
the trucking industry for 20 years. He tries to be committed to everything he does in
life. He feels as if he has learned a lot in this time, but also has a lot more he wants
to learn and accomplish.
