Aerofix® fixative at thebeginning of the staining cycle(alternatively, slides can behand-fixed using methanol orBasofix®). After a dryingsequence, eosin stain isapplied to stain acidophilic cellcomponents, followed by abrief period for stain penetra-tion. Thiazin dye is then applied

to stain the basophilic cell com-ponents, followed by anotherbrief stain penetration period.

A buffered rinse cleans theslides of excess stain and isthen removed by centrifugation.Slides are dry and ready for themicroscope at the end of thecycle.

The Romanowsky StainThe Aerospray Stainer uses atwo-part aqueous Romanowskystain. Its principal advantagesare:

Rapid staining kinetics Blood smears are fixed,stained, and dried in about 3.5 minutes.

Improved stain stabilityThe slow rate of decompositionof thiazin and eosin dyes inseparate neutral aqueous solu-tions allows a long shelf life.Since changes in the stainsoccur very slowly, stainingresults are highly reproducibleand consistent.

Clear fieldsSince there is virtually no stainprecipitation or debris, slidesare exceptionally clean.

Reagent concentratesAll Wescor hematologyreagents can be prepared fromconcentrate to help defray ship-ping costs and to satisfy specif-ic customer needs, such asneutrophil and overall colorpreferences.

BasofixWith aqueous stains, basophilgranules, which are water solu-ble, may be washed away inthe staining process, but withexperience, degranulatedbasophils are readilyrecognized.

For customers who prefer gran-ulated basophils, Wescor offersBasofix fixative. This speciallycompounded formula yieldsstain coloration morereminiscent of alcohol-basedstains. In addition to fixingbasophil granules, primarygranules are alsostrengthened.

Cytocentrifuge Rotor

ith the optional Cytoprorotor, the Aerospraystainer becomes a

cytocentrifuge at a fraction ofthe cost of a stand-alone cyto-centrifuge. There’s no modifica-tion or fiddling involved. Simplyremove the staining carouseland replace it with the Cytoprorotor.

The self-contained rotor loadseasily in a safety cabinet. Anairtight seal controls biologicalhazards. The rotor and samplechambers are autoclavable.Sample chambers are competi-tively priced so you can eco-nomically dispose of them.

THE CYTOPRO CHAMBERThe chamber’s unique designcombines ease of use withsuperb cell recovery.

-Perfect Alignment. TheCytopad®absorption pad snapsquickly between the chamberand the frame. This guaranteesthat the chamber bore is alwayscorrectly aligned. No fumbling,and no cell loss due to pooralignment.

-Better Flow Control. EachCytopad features a specially-compressed ring around thecenter hole. This compressioncontrols the fluid flow andimproves the repeatability offluid absorption.

-Dual Sample Port. Two ports,one in the sample well and onein the tunnel, provide great ver-satility, allowing you to introduceprewetting fluids and making insitu fixation easy and reliable.

-Chamber Caps. You can loadsamples directly through thechamber caps to preventspilling of hazardous samples.

-Two Fluid Absorption Rates.The white Cytopad is for fasterabsorption of thick or debris-filled suspension fluids. The tanpad is used to slow fluidabsorption for improved cellrecovery in non viscous fluidssuch as urine or CSF.
