• Conscious knowledge of one's own character, feelings, motives, and desires.• Reason why can make significant advances from generation to

generation.• Find that our actions aren’t good.• We can learn from others.

The Social Mirror:

• "You're never on time.“• "This is so simple. Why can't you understand?" • “Even a baby could do this”

• Types:Genetic determinism: your grandparents did it to you.Psychic determinism: your parents, upbringing, childhood.Environmental determinism: your boss, economy, culture.

Proactive:

• Taking initiative.• Responsible for our own lives.• Initiative and the responsibility to make things happen. • Do not blame circumstances for behavior.

It is not what happen to us, but OUR response to what happens to us that hurts us.

I am responsible for my attitude toward the inevitable misfortunes that darken life. Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have.
