DESCRIPTION

God is our most basic need. He reveals Himself and His will in the Bible (Ecc. 12:13). The Bible is truth and fits man's unchanging needs: God is, the Bible is God's word, Jesus Christ is God's Son, Man's purpose is to love God and his fellowman (1 Pet. 1:23).If the Bible outdated and irrelevant? God and His truth are never outdated (Psa. 90:1). The dangers of sin do not change. The problem of sin and evil are resolved by the Bible, NOT by science, medicine, or technology.

I. The Bible Addresses Man’s Deepest Needs A. Man Cannot Resolve His Own Deepest Needs

Science, medicine, & technology address our material world & physical needs— man has deeper moral & spiritual needs Eccl. 1:8-10 Life’s basic experiences are the same in all generations

Page 13: Hal evidences 6-bible-meetmanneeds-4-24-2012

Eccl. 1:8-10 Life’s basic experiences are the same in all generations

8 All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. 9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. 10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.

Gen. 1:1, 26-27 Where did I come from? 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

==== ==== ==== ==== ==== 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Jn. 5:28-29 Where am I going? 28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Page 20: Hal evidences 6-bible-meetmanneeds-4-24-2012

C. Atheism Cannot Answer Life’s Deepest Questions Robert Ingersoll: “Life is a narrow vale between the cold and barren peaks of two eternities. We strive in vain to look beyond the heights. We cry aloud, and the only answer is the echo of a wailing cry” (“A Tribute to Ebon C. Ingersoll, by his Brother Robert” in Robert Ingersoll, The Ghosts, and other lectures, 1892)

C. Atheism Cannot Answer Life’s Deepest Questions Friedrich Nietzsche, “God is dead.” “Where is my home? For it do I ask and seek, and have sought, but have not found it. O eternal everywhere, O eternal nowhere, O eternal-in-vain” (Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for All and No One, 1891)

Page 23: Hal evidences 6-bible-meetmanneeds-4-24-2012

Ps. 23 God shepherds us for time & eternity 1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Page 24: Hal evidences 6-bible-meetmanneeds-4-24-2012

Ps. 23 God shepherds us for time & eternity

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

and again I say, Rejoice. 5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Phil. 4:11-13 God gives strength for every trial 11 Not that I speak in respect of want:

for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. 12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
