Intertextuality

Within Andrew Goodwin’s theory of music video’s, we see his belief of intertextuality of other media outlets. This means to incorporate two bits of media text together and ‘merge’ them.

King Kong

A piece of media intertextuality within the lyrics of ‘Hall of Fame’ is displayed when they sing, “you can be the King Kong banging on your chest”.

This highlights the merging together of a popular film and the songs lyrics.

The American dream

The ‘Hall of fame’ lyrics can be seen to promote the motive of striving to achieve, much like the American dream, which is the belief that anyone can go from ‘rags to riches’ and become someone/something great. This can be seen in the lyrics; “you can be the greatest, you can be the best”, which displays that you can be anything you want if you try your best.
