Dear Readers,

Vom 30. Januar bis 2. Februar 2010 präsentieren rund 2.000 internationale Aussteller ihre Produktneuheiten, werden neue Geschäfts-kontakte geknüpft und Trends vorgestellt. Das bora.herke Stilbüro spürt die Trends für 2010/11 auf und macht sie sicht- und greifbar. Die krea-tive Trendschau in der Halle 6.1 zeigt aktuelle Farben, Formen und Materialien, stellt Schau-fensterdekorationen vor und lässt die Trends für die Besucher erlebbar werden. Bei dem Blick in die Zukunft sind natürlich auch Nachhaltigkeit und ressourcenschonende Produkte im Fokus. In der PBS-Branche ist dies ein besonders wichtiges Thema, das zahlreiche Firmen auf ihrer Agenda stehen haben. Die Paperworld räumt mit dem „Green Office Day“ bereits seit Jahren dem Umweltschutz einen besonderen Platz ein. Hier informieren Experten in Vorträgen zu grünen Büroprodukten. 2010 wird eine weitere Premiere im Sektor Recycling gefeiert: die Remax, Europas größte Fachmesse für die Wiederaufbereitung von Druckerzubehör, siedelt sich in Paperworld Imaging an. Als Plattform für EDV- und Druckerzubehör, Papier, Folien und Etiketten sowie Tinte, Toner und Verbrauchsmaterialien für Drucker bietet die Halle 4.0 hierfür den idealen Rahmen und ist eines der Zukunftsfelder der Branche.

We often start the New Year full of elan,

ready to tackle new challenges and look

confidently into the future. Paperworld,

the foremost international trade fair for

paper, office supplies and stationery,

sustains this momentum, only transfer-

ring its nucleus to Frankfurt.

From 30 January to 2 February 2010 some 2,000 international exhibitors are showcasing their new products in Frankfurt. New business contacts will be established and trends presented. Style agency bora.herke has identified the trends for 2010/11 and given them a tangible form. The creative Trend Show in hall 6.1 shows the latest colours, shapes and materials and presents examples of window decorations, making the dominant trends more accessible to visitors. Needless to say, sustainability and resource efficient products will be a critical issue in the future. In the paper, stationery and office supplies sector these issues are of central importance. In many companies they are already high on the agenda. With its “Green Office Day” Paperworld has given environmental awareness pride of place in recent years. At this venue experts explain how offices can be furnished in a sustainable and ecologically-friendly way. In 2010 another world first is taking place in the recycling sector: Remax, Europe’s biggest trade fair for printer-accessory recycling, is taking place in parallel with Paperworld Imaging. As a presentation platform for IT and printer accessories, paper, transparencies, labels, printer inks, toners and printer con-sumables, hall 4.0 is the ideal venue for one of the fastest growing sectors of the industry.

At Paperworld 2010 visitors will find lots of forward-looking product innovations and an interesting supporting programme. So let’s all look to the future, whatever it may bring, and to a successful trade fair. I hope you find plenty of inspiration at Paperworld 2010.

Paperworld’s product portfolio has been expanded to include Europe’s largest trade fair for the recycling of printer materials and accessories – a highly sustainable segment. The ideal venue for this is the Paperworld Imaging area, the platform for IT and printer accessories, paper, foils, labels, ink, toner and printer consumables. Every year since the year 2000 Remax has been bringing about 10,000 visitors from the trade into contact with some 200 manufacturers and sales partners involved in the re-cycling of printer materials and accessories. This project is a cooperative venture between Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH and Recycler Publishing & Events Ltd., which is headquartered in Witney in Great Britain.

“Insider” programme wins UFI Marketing Award 2009

UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, has recognised Messe Frankfurt’s “Insider” marketing tool as the “Best Marketing Activity of the Year”. “Insider” addresses the smaller specialist retailers, offering them all kinds of advantages ranging from free entry to personal support during their visit to the trade fair. Qualität, Vision, EmotionQuality, vision, emotion

Produkte mit Seele und Persönlichkeit Der Charme des Selbstgemachten verleiht dem Artistic-Trend einen hohen emotionalen Wert. Die Produkte wirken teilweise improvisiert, haben „Ecken und Kanten“ und sind von einem Vintage-Charakter geprägt. Dieser gewollte „Unperfektionismus“ kommt durch viel helles Holz in Kombination mit collagierten Dessins und Schnitzereien zum Ausdruck, oftmals ergänzt durch Gestricktes oder Gehäkeltes. Die Farben sind kräftig mit warmen neutralen Komponenten.

Products with soul and personality The irreplaceable charm of homemade objects attaches tremendous emo-tional value to this trend. At times these products seem a little improvised: they are somewhat rough around the edges and have a distinctive vintage character. These deliberate imperfections are achieved by lots of light-coloured wood combined with collage style designs and carving work, sometimes complemented by knit or crochet work. The colours are strong with warm, neutral elements.

Progressives AlltagsdesignBei „Vision“ steht funktionales Alltagsdesign im Mittelpunkt. Ganz und gar nicht alltäglich sind allerdings die verwendeten Materialien: Vinyl und Plexiglas sowie metallische und reflektierende Oberflächen geben dieser Trendrichtung einen avantgardistischen und futuristischen Look. Mit den Paperworld-Neuheiten „SECURIO P40“ und „P44“ vervollstän-digt HSM die SECURIO-Linie im Professional-Bereich. Der „SECURIO P40“ hat ein Auffangvolumen von 145 Litern und kann eine starke Schnittleis-tung von bis zu 60 Blatt vorweisen.

Der „SECURIO P44“ ist das größte und leistungsstärkste Modell der „SECURIO“-Linie. New at Paperworld are “SECURIO P40” and “P44”. HSM has added these to its SECURIO line for professional use. “SECURIO P40” has a shred bag volume of 145 litres and a shred capacity of up to 60 sheets.

“SECURIO P44” is the largest model with the highest capacity in the “SECURIO” line. With a shred bag volume of 205 litres and a shred capacity of up to 78 sheets, “SECURIO P44” can justifiably be described as the most powerful model driven by an AC motor. Both appliances have been equipped with standard features such as a safety flap which provides protection against accidental contact, an integrated service hatch and an automatic oiler for the shredding mechanism in the particle-cut version.

Aktenvernichter von HSM trumpfen mit neuen Features auf

Ein neues Feature ist die Papierdicken-Messung. Sie macht es möglich, vorab zu prüfen, ob ein Stapel Papier in einem Arbeitsgang ver-nichtet werden kann. Eine LED-Leuchte am Multifunktionsknopf signalisiert in den Farben Rot, Gelb und Grün, ob der Papierstapel dem Gerät zugeführt werden kann oder ob der Stapel verringert werden muss. Die Funktion wird zunächst im „SECURIO B34“ und im „P44“ enthalten sein.

Ein weiteres neues Feature ist der externe Öler, der optional für die Partikelschnitt-Versionen des „SECURIO B24“ bis zum „B34“ sowie in den HSM-Geräten vom „HSM 105.3“ bis zum „HSM 411.2“ erhältlich ist. Die vollautomatische Ölung setzt beim Starten der Messerwellen, nach dem Reversiervorgang oder nach einer Betriebszeit von 200 Sekunden ein, dies entspricht einem Einzelblatteinzug von etwa 50 Arbeitsgängen. Eine LED-Leuchte signalisiert den geringen Füllstand des abnehmbaren 250 ml-Behälters. Der Öler stellt eine konstant hohe Schnittleistung und Schnitt-qualität sicher. Außerdem hilft er, Papierstaus zu vermeiden und den Verschleiß der Schneidwellen so gering wie möglich zu halten.In einem komplett neuen Design erscheint das Nachfolgemodell des Förderband-Aktenvernichters „HSM FA 500.2“, der „HSM FA 500.3 Premium“. Das fahrbare Topmodell eignet sich für große EDV-Abteilungen, Archive oder als Zentralstelle für die Aktenvernichtung. CDs und Disketten und sogar ganze Aktenbände und Ordner kann dieses Gerät mühelos zer-kleinern. Zusätzlich zu den Sicherheitsstufen 2 und 3 wird es mit dem neuen „HSM FA 500.3“ erstmalig im Förderband-Aktenvernichter-Bereich möglich sein, Dokumente auch in der Sicherheitsstufe 4 zu ver-nichten. Neu ist auch der integrierte automatische Öler, der nun noch komfortabler für eine konstante Schnittleistung sorgt.

Handelsunterstützung wird bei HSM weiter großgeschriebenFür den Handel und den Endkunden gibt es eine gewinnbringende Incentive-Aktion mit attraktiven Preisen. Der Abverkauf vom Handel an den Endkunden wird mit speziell zugeschnittenen Beilegern und Vkf-Mitteln unterstützt.Dank des neuen Web-to-Print-Wizard auf der HSM-Website wird es ab der Paperworld möglich sein, Flyer und Werbebroschüren auf der Basis von bereitgestellten Templates selbst zu erstellen. Mit Hilfe einer Waren-korbfunktion hat jeder Händler die Möglichkeit, interessante Produkte auf der HSM-Website zu sammeln und in die Broschüre mit aufzunehmen. Auch sind eigene Produktpreise und individuelle Adressdaten hinterlegbar. HSM wird in regelmäßigen Abständen weitere Templates zur Verfügung stellen.

Darüber hinaus wird es individuelle Marketingmaßnahmen für Verbände, den Internethandel etc. geben.

One of the new features is a system that measures paper thickness. This system is able to measure the thickness of a document stack and determine whether it can be shred in one go. A LED lamp on the multi-function button indicates, by means of red, orange and green lights, whether the document stack can be fed into the shredder or whether it needs to be reduced in size. Initially the “SECURIO B34” and “P44” models will be equipped with this function.

Another new feature is the external oiler which is optionally available for the particle-cut versions of the “SECURIO B24” to “B34” models and the “HSM 105.3” to “HSM 411.2” HSM appliances. The fully automatic oiler goes into operation when the cutters start to move after the reverse process or after an operating period of 200 seconds which cor- responds to about 50 single-sheet feeds. A LED lamp lights up to indicate when the removable 250 ml container needs refilling. The oiler guarantees a constantly high shred performance and shred quality. It also helps to avoid paper jams and reduces wear on the cutting shafts.

The follow-up model to the “HSM FA 500.2” conveyor belt docu-ment shredder, the “HSM FA 500.3 Premium”, has been given a com-pletely new design. This premium model is mobile and ideal for large IT departments, archives, or as a shared device for document shredding. This appliance can shred CDs and other discs. It can even deal with entire fold-ers and files. The new “HSM FA 500.3” is the first conveyor belt type docu-ment shredder that is able to shred documents in compliance with security level 4, as well as security levels 2 und 3. The integrated auto-matic oiler, which now conveniently guarantees a constantly high shred performance, is also new.

HSM continues to give retailer support pride of placeFor retailers and end-users there is a lucrative incentive scheme with attractive prices. Retailers are supported in their sales to end-users with special leaflets and other sales promotion materials.Thanks to the new Web-to-Print wizard on the HSM web site, after Paperworld retailers will be able to create their own flyers and advertising brochures using the templates available on the site. With the help of a shopping cart function, retailers can choose products from the HSM web site and include them in their brochure. The retailer can also add his own prices and addresses. HSM will make additional templates available at regular intervals.

“ACT GREEN” is the name that has been given to the new paper collec-tion from Gmund. This collection convincingly demonstrates that eco-logically sound paper can also satisfy high expectations. There are four papers in this collection. “Cotton” is made from 100 percent cotton fibre and “Cannabis” is made from 30 percent hemp fibre. These raw materials come from annual plants whose ecological balance is excellent. The unique surface feel and superior fibre strength of these papers is achieved by manufacturing them on an “old” paper machine that was first put into operation in 1883. “100 % Recycling” contains no virgin fibre and yet with its bright white colour and laid pattern effects it is something to be proud of. It can be supplied with an eco-watermark on request. The fourth of the papers in this collection is made with FSC certified pulp from sustainable

sources and is available in cream, brown and green.

The wood that Faber-Castell uses for its award-winning “GRIP 2001” pencil has been sourced from its own ecologically certified pine plantations. With its characteristic non-slip comfort grip zone with black knops, this silver tri-angular shaped pencil has been cutting a distinctively good figure since 2001. Thanks to a novel coating using an eco-friendly water-based lacquer the untreated and non-impregnated wood is not only environmentally friendly but also hygienic.

„ACT GREEN“ heißt die neue Papierkollektion, mit der Gmund beweist, dass auch ökologisch verträgliches Papier höchste Ansprüche erfüllt. Die Rezeptur „100 Prozent Recycling“ enthält keinerlei Beimischung von Frischfasern und kann sich dennoch mit hoher Weiße und büttenmatter Oberfläche sehen lassen – auf Wunsch auch mit Eco-Wasserzeichen. „FSC-zertifizierter Zellstoff“ aus garantiert nachhaltiger Bewirtschaftung bildet den Rohstoff für die Papiere in den noblen Farben Cream, Brown und Green.

Aus eigenen nach ökologischen Gesichtspunkten zertifizierten Pinienplantagen stammt das Holz, das Faber-Castell für seinen mehr-fach ausgezeichneten Bleistift „GRIP 2001“ verwendet. Die charakteris-tische Griffzone aus schwarzen Noppen macht den silberfar-benen Dreikant-Bleistift seit 2001 unverwechselbar. Dank einer Lackierung mit Öko-Wasserlack ist das unbehandelte und nicht-impräg-nierte Holz nicht nur umweltfreundlich, sondern auch hygienisch.

Das macht eine aufwän-dige Schilderproduktion überflüssig und spart wertvolle Rohstoffe und teure Energie.

Besondere Haltbarkeit zeichnet die „Power“ Etiketten von HERMA aus. Egal, ob der Untergrund feucht, staubig, kalt oder rau ist – die neuen Papieretiketten halten immer, selbst bei Rund- und Übereckverklebungen. Lästiges Mehrfachbekleben entfällt. Trotz ihrer hohen Haftkraft sind die Etiketten aus PEFC-zertifiziertem Material zu 100 Prozent mit dem Altpapier recycelbar.

ACME Studio, on the other hand, has placed its trust in corn. Its “ECO Pen” is a 100 per-cent bio-degradable ink roller. The plastic case is made of corn starch plastic. When disposed of, this material will break down in one year. As far as functionality and design are concerned this ink roller is equal in every way to the other ACME products. With a choice of twelve different colours, there’s something for everyone.

A simple design with a timeless appeal is the dis-tinguishing feature of “CUBO eco”, the desktop organisation line from Durable. The paper clip dispenser with its large open-ing, the note box with PEFC certified blank notes and the pen holder are all made from 70 percent renewable resources. Careful use of resources has also been made in the manufac-

ture of Durable’s “MAGAFRAME”. “MAGAFRAME” makes it quick and easy to produce display panels for any occasion. The

self-adhesive frame with its magnetic front sticks to any smooth surface and will stick again and again. This means that there’s

no need to spend money on producing special signs, thus saving on valuable resources and energy costs.

HERMA’s “Power” labels adhere strongly to the application surface - never mind whether it is moist, dusty, cold or rough. These new paper labels will even perman-ently adhere to curved or corner surfaces. They make labelling so much easier! Deutliche Umsatzsteigerungen geplant

Nach den Umsatzrückgängen 2009 rechnet der größte Teil der Unternehmen des PBS-Verbandes mit leichten Umsatzsteigerungen. Was plant Durable in dieser Hinsicht?Durable plant für 2010 eine Umsatzsteigerung von ca. 6 Prozent. Außerdem haben wir durch den Erwerb der Marke Idealplast eine Reihe von neuen Sortimenten im Portfolio, sodass wir 2010 mit Sicherheit eine zweistellige Umsatzsteigerung erreichen werden.

Insgesamt bringen wir zur Paperworld aus dem eigenen Sortiment fast 50 neue Artikel auf den Markt. Außerdem haben wir uns für den Fachhandel als unseren stärksten Partner eine ganze Menge Überraschendes einfallen lassen.

Was tun Sie, um die Marke Durable zu stärken?Wir werden zum Beispiel mit anderen fachhandelsstarken Marken gemeinsame Marketingkonzepte durchführen, um gemeinsam mehr Aufmerksamkeit zu erregen und Synergien zu finden, die das Budget entlasten. Einige Unternehmen sehen inzwischen ein, dass eine gemeinsame Markenstrategie durchaus Erfolg bringen kann.

Im Wettbewerb „Produkte des Jahres 2011“ soll es nach dem Willen der Juroren zusätzlich einen „Nachhaltig-keitspreis“ geben. Welche Rolle spielt der Megatrend Nachhaltigkeit für die Branche und für Durable? Nachhaltigkeit ist für die Branche und vor allem für Durable ein ganz wichtiges Thema. Um das zu dokumentieren, haben wir vor zwei Monaten die Umweltzertifizierung nach DIN EN 14001 erhal­ten. Bei Themen wie Recycling, umweltschonende Energie­gewinnung oder soziale Verantwortung sind wir breit aufgestellt.

Viele Verbraucher werden auf Nachhaltigkeit Wert legen. Nach haltigkeit ist nicht nur für

den Markt, sondern auch für uns als Unternehmen und für unsere

Mitarbeiter wichtig.

Durable is a leading brand in the paper, stationery and office

supplies sector. What concepts has the company come up with for

2010? TOP FAIR spoke to Horst-Werner Maier-Hunke, managing

director of Durable and chairman of the German Trade

Association for paper, stationery and office supplies.

Following the decline in sales in 2009 the majority of companies in your association are expecting sales to increase slightly. What is Durable’s forecast?For 2010 we are forecasting an increase in turnover of about 6 per cent for Durable itself. In addition to this, having purchased the Idealplast brand, we now have a whole range of new products in our portfolio so that overall we can almost certainly expect double­digit sales growth for 2010.

At Paperworld we are launching almost 50 new items from our own ranges. We have also come up with a lot of ideas for retailers. After all, they are our strongest partners.

What do you do to strengthen the Durable brand?One example is that we are going to implement joint marketing concepts with other strong retail brands to draw attention to our products and find synergies to ease the financial burden. Quite a few companies are beginning to realise that joint market­ing strategies can be successful.

The judges of the “Product of the Year 2011” award also want there to be a “Sustainability Prize”. What role does sustainability play in your sector and for Durable itself? Sustainability is for both the sector, and for Durable in particular, of major import­ance. As a demonstration of this, two months ago we were granted environmental certification in compliance with DIN EN 14001. We are also in a good position when it comes to recycling, eco­friendly energy generation and social responsibility. A lot of consumers attach great importance to sustainability. Sustainability is not only important for the market, it is also important to us as an enterprise and to our employees.

Turnover poised for a significant increase

Wolfgang Sigmund von TFF Papierwelt in Grünberg etwa veranstaltet mit „Six to Sixteen“ gleich eine ganze Messe rund um das Thema Schule. Gemeinsam mit Herstellern wie Scout, School­Mood, Lamy, Staedler und Brunnen sowie einem lokalen Fahrradhändler und der Musikschule sorgt er in den Messehallen Gießen für buntes Treiben: Kletterzapfen und Hüpfburg, Kinderschminken und Zahnpflegetunnel locken die Besucher an. 8.000 bis 10.000 Euro investiert Sigmund in die Messe – und viel Zeit. Jede Schule, jeden Kindergarten im Umkreis hat er persönlich besucht, um für die Veranstaltung zu werben.

Sein Fazit: In den Kindergärten hilft es, in den Schulen lohnt es eher nicht. „Um für die Jugendlichen der höheren Klassen noch attraktiver zu sein, müssen mehr Lernmittelverlage auf der Messe vertreten sein“, stellt er fest. Allerdings sei es nicht einfach, diese zur Teilnahme zu moti­vieren. Dennoch ist er mit der Messe zufrieden, bringt ein einziger Tag doch ungefähr den eineinhalbfachen durchschnittlichen Monatsumsatz in die Kassen. Und mehr noch: In diesem Jahr wird die TFF Papierwelt „Ausgewählter Ort 2010“ der Initiative „Deutschland – Land der Ideen“.

„Wenn ich mich von der Konkurrenz, den großen Ketten abheben will, muss ich alternative Werbeformen entwickeln“, lautet auch das Credo von Gernot Abraham, Geschäftsführer des gleichnamigen Fachgeschäfts in Salzburg. Das Schulgeschäft verteilt sich zunehmend über einen längeren Zeitraum, so seine Erfahrung. Deswegen setzt er auf Aktionen, die seinen

Visitors are lured into the halls by a climbing wall, a bouncy castle, face painting and dental care activities. Sigmund has invested between euro 8,000 and euro 10,000 in the trade fair – and a lot of his time. He personally visited every school and nursery in the area to promote the event.

On balance, he thinks that it’s more worthwhile visiting the nur­series than the schools. “In order to be of interest to pupils higher up the schools, more publishers of educational materials have to be present,” he concludes. However, it’s not easy to motivate them to participate. Neverthe less, he’s pleased with the trade fair. After all, in one day at the trade fair he makes one and a half times as much as he normally does in a month. And that’s not all: this year TFF Papierwelt has been awarded “selected location status 2010” by the “Germany – Land of Ideas” initiative.

“If I want to stand out from the competition, from the big chains, I have to develop alternative advertising formats,” says Gernot Abraham, managing director of a specialist shop in Salzburg. In his experience the school stationery business is now more spread out over the year. That’s why he organises events which make sure that his shop remains a talking

Laden über mehrere Wochen ins Gespräch bringen. Zuletzt rief er einen Papierflieger-Wettbewerb aus: Via Internet konnten sich Teams mit je vier „Piloten“ bilden, es gab vorab Trainingsstunden und eine mehrtägige Vorrunde, Bastelvorlagen am „Tower“ in seinem Laden und ein großes Finale kurz vor den Sommerferien in einem Einkaufszentrum.

Um sein Event bekannt zu machen, hat Abraham sogar das lokale Radio und Fernsehen miteinbezogen. TV­Spots liefen rund eine Woche lang zur besten Sendezeit vor der lokalen Hauptnachrichten­ sendung, das Radio berichtet live vom Finale. Ein Einkaufsgutschein über 999 Euro winkte dem Siegerteam. Zum Schulanfang folgte Teil 2 der Aktion, ebenfalls bekannt gemacht mit einem TV­Spot: Die ersten 100 Kinder, die am 1. Schultag in den Laden kamen, erhielten ein Geschenk. 15.000 Euro hat er insgesamt investiert, noch einmal so viel legte das Einkaufszentrum drauf. Für Abraham ist klar: Im Vergleich zu Prospekt­Beilagen, Plakaten oder Anzeigen rechnen sich solche Aktionen viel eher.

Doch auch in deutlich kleinerem Rahmen lässt sich viel erreichen, wie Inge Berendt-Mertens beweist. Die Inhaberin der Villa Leinfelden in Leinfelden­Echterdingen beteiligt sich jedes Jahr am traditionellen Krautfest im Ort. „Die Leute wissen mittlerweile schon, dass bei uns immer was los ist und kommen gerne“, freut sie sich. Ein gemietetes Spielzelt bot zuletzt viel Abwechslung – nicht nur für die Kinder, sondern auch für die Eltern. Auftritte der Flötenkinder von der örtlichen Musikschule sowie frische Crêpes und Kinderpunsch des Vereins Kelly­Inseln zogen zusätzlich Besucher an. Da das Krautfest im Oktober mit einem verkaufsof­fenen Sonntag verbunden ist, gehen die Kinder in der Villa bei Suchspielen auf Entdeckungsreise: Kniffelige Fragen führen sie durch den ganzen Laden, präsentieren das komplette Sortiment. Und wer etwas kaufen möchte, kann sich vorher seinen ganz persönlichen Rabatt auswürfeln. Alle Teilnehmer erhalten später Post – die Sieger ihre wohlverdienten Gewinne, die anderen einen Trostpreis. „Service und Qualität“, das sind die Plus­punkte des Fachhandels, ist die Inhaberin überzeugt. Und sie löst den Anspruch ein: Zum Schulanfang übernimmt ein Einbinde­Service das lästige Einschlagen der neuen Schulbücher für die Eltern.

The qualifying rounds took place over several days. Plane kits were available at the “tower” in the shop. The grand final took place shortly before the summer holidays at a shopping centre.

To publicize the event Abraham even involved the local radio and televi-sion stations. The local radio station reported live from the final. For the winning team there were gift vouchers worth over euro 999. At the start of the next school year, the second part of the event followed, also publicized by a TV spot. The first 100 children to come into the shop on the first day of school were given a present. Abraham invested a total of euro 15,000in the event. The shopping centre contributed the same amount. Abraham is quite convinced that these kinds of events are far more worthwhile than flyers, posters and advertisements.

Nevertheless, it is possible to achieve a lot on a much smaller scale, as Inge Berendt-Mertens has demonstrated. She is the owner of Villa Leinfelden in Leinfelden­Echterdingen. Every year she participates in the local herb festival. “People now know that there is always some­thing going on at our stand and therefore like coming to see us,” she is happy to say. Last year she rented a large tent in which she could stage all kinds of events – not only for children but for their parents, too. Because the herb festival takes place in October on a Sunday on which all the shops are open for business, the Villa can be used for treasure hunts, paper chases and other children’s games. Quiz questions take the children all over the shop, so they get to see almost everything! If they want to buy some­thing, they can throw a dice and see what discount they get. Everyone who joins in gets something in the post soon afterwards – the winners get their prizes and the others get a consolation prize. According to Berendt-Mertens, service and quality are the real advantages of the specialist retailers. And she lives up to this claim: at the beginning of the school year she offers a school book covering service – a great relief to many of the parents in the area.

the fascination exercised by live performances with orchestra,

Fakt ist: Knackige Muskelmasse ver-

braucht mehr Energie, sprich Kalo-

rien, als schlaffes Fettgewebe. Ein-

fach so, ununterbrochen und selbst

im Schlaf. Sie meinen, das klingt zu

schön, um wahr zu sein? Wir erzäh-

len Ihnen doch keine Märchen! Dies

liegt am erhöhten Grundumsatz –

unser Körper muss für den Erhalt der

Muskelmasse eben ein paar Kalorien

mehr investieren. Somit halten wir

per Krafttraining nicht nur unsere

Muskeln auf Trab, sondern auch un-

sere Energiebilanz – unsere interne

Spezialdiät.

Apropos Diät: Setzen wir lediglich

aufs Abspecken durch Kalorien-

entzug ohne kräftigende Übungen,

berauben wir uns dieser effektiven

Energieverwerter. Denn unser Kör-

per baut bei Kalorien-Notstand leider

nicht nur Fett ab, sondern vorrangig

Muskeleiweiß. So ist eine Diät ohne

kräftigendes Training ein großer Mus-

kelräuber. Beste Gegenmaßnahme:

Krafttraining plus reduzierte Kalori-

enzufuhr und erhöhter Kalorienver-

brauch durch Sport – das macht dau-

erhaft schlank.Übrigens «verwandeln» sich die un-

erwünschten Fettpölsterchen nicht in

Muskulatur, denn sie bestehen – wie

der Name schon sagt – aus Fett,unsere

Muskeln jedoch aus Proteinen. Viel-

mehr verbrennt unsere Muskulatur als

größtes Stoffwechselorgan das Fett.

Wer wenige Muskeln hat, kann auch

nur wenig Fett verbrennen. Wer mehr

Fett verbrennen will, muss seine Mus-

kulatur vergrößern – durch Training.

Diese Aussagen stammen von Men-

schen, die an unserer wissenschaftli-

chen Studie zum gesundheitsorien-

tierten Krafttraining teilnehmen.

500 Probanden haben wir gesucht –

49.000 Menschen haben sich bewor-

ben.Das große Interesse an der Studie

zeigt erneut,dass Rückenleiden vielen

Menschen den Alltag zur Hölle ma-

chen. Die Behandlung verursacht im-

mense Kosten, und noch immer wer-

den Operationen als der vermeintlich

letzte Ausweg dargestellt. Mit der

Studie wollen wir öffentlich zeigen,

was unsere Kunden schon lange wis-

sen: Eine kräftige Muskulatur lindert

Schmerzen, beugt diesen vor und ver-

bessert allgemein die Lebensqualität.

Oder in drei Worten: Kieser Training

wirkt.

Die Forschungsabteilung von Kie-

ser Training, die die Studie unter der

Leitung von Dr. Sven Goebel durch-

führt, hat die Studienteilnehmer per

Zufallsprinzip ausgewählt. Seit April

absolvieren nun in jedem Kieser

Training-Betrieb vier Probanden das

präventive Krafttraining (PKT) oder

die Medizinische Kräftigungstherapie

(MKT) – jeweils 30 Minuten, zwei

Mal pro Woche, sechs Monate lang.

«Es ist uns wichtig, die Teilnehmer

nicht in einer Art Versuchslabor trai-

nieren zu lassen, sondern zu ganz

normalen Bedingungen», erklärt Dr.

Goebel. «Wir wollen unter ande-

rem herausfinden, wie Krafttraining

Menschen zu mehr Lebensqualität

verhilft, und dafür muss es auch in

den individuellen Alltag integriert

sein. Im Zentrum der Studie steht

die Frage, wie durch einen gezielten

Muskelaufbau die Anfälligkeit für

Schmerzereignisse reduziert oder be-

seitigt werden kann. Darüber hinaus

interessieren uns die Effekte des Trai-

nings auf die allgemeine Gesundheit

und Leistungsfähigkeit der Proban-

den», so Goebel weiter.Die Studie ist in drei Phasen unter-

teilt. Im April wurden die Teilneh-

mer ärztlich untersucht und in die

Gruppen PKT und MKT eingeteilt.

Anschließend fanden die ersten

Befragungen statt und es wurden

Rückenanalysen und dynamische

Maximalkrafttests durchgeführt. Im

Sommer findet die zweite Befragung

statt und zum Studienende im Ok-

tober werden die Tests vom Anfang

wiederholt und die Teilnehmer ab-

schließend befragt und vom Arzt un-

tersucht.

«Den Einfluss von Krafttraining auf

die Lebensqualität der Probanden

zu erforschen, ist zugegebenermaßen

recht ambitioniert», erklärt Dr. Goe-

bel. «Deutliche Ergebnisse erhoffen

wir uns durch den Vergleich mit der

Kontrollgruppe, in deren Leben es

noch kein Krafttraining gibt.» Die

Teilnehmer der Kontrollgruppe ab-

solvieren während der Studienphase

kein Training, nehmen aber an allen

Untersuchungen, Tests und Befra-

gungen teil.

der Via Manzoni und Durini. Am meis-

ten Spaß hatte ich in diesem Jahr an

Paola Navones Inszenierung der „Taste

Lounge“ für Richard Ginori in der Via

Tortona. Und natürlich freue ich mich

riesig, meine Designer- und Journalis-

tenfreunde aus aller Welt zu sehen.“

den Weg machen, steht jenseits der

Alpen schon alles in voller Blüte. Und

dann Mailand mit seiner aufregenden

Mixtur aus Mode, Design und Lebens-

art! Neues entsteht hier mit geradezu

verschwenderischer Leichtigkeit.Wer durch die malerischen Gassen

und Hinterhöfe flaniert, kann oft die

ersten Signale von Trends erkennen,

die dann zwei Jahre später bei uns an-

kommen. In der Via Durini etwa prä-

sentierte Cassina seine Neuheiten in

einer Dekoration von opulenten Bild-

motiven und coolen Neoninstallationen.Während der Möbelmesse wird die

ganze Stadt zur Bühne für diese Krea-

tivität – ein El Dorado für Trendscouts!

Auch weitab vom Messegelände gibt

es viel zu entdecken, zum Beispiel in

der Zona Tortona: Dort drängen sich

Fachpublikum und Interessierte aus al-

ler Welt durch ein Labyrinth von alten

Industriehallen – Überraschungseffek-

te inklusive, arrivierte Designer neben

experimentellem und avantgardisti-

schem Design – einfach toll! Viele

Kreationen sind anderswo überhaupt

nicht oder erst sehr viel später zu

sehen.

Neue starke Trends zeichneten sich

ab. Bei den Farben dominieren jetzt

Violett, Lila, Türkis, Sand bzw. Sahara

und ein in Pastellnoten abgetöntes

Grün. Es wird kräftig gemixt – Sahara-

Töne mit knallgelben Früchten etwa

bei Paola Lenti. Pastelltöne mit Akzen-

ten sind generell ein ganz starker

Trend. Auf einigen Ständen haben wir

wieder Zimmerpflanzen gesehen, die

man ja ganz lange kaum zu Gesicht

bekam, vor allem typische Pflanzen

der 50erJahre wie Philodendron und

Palmen.

Bei durchweg sehr wertigen Materia-

lien war eines besonders auffällig:

Neben dunklen Hölzer haben wir auch

helles Holz kombiniert mit Lackfarben

gesichtet. Porro etwa verbindet wei-

ßen Lack und helle Hemlock-Tanne.

Das schnell nachwachsende Holz be-

rücksichtigt auch ökologische Aspek-

te – ebenfalls ein wichtiger Trend …

Barocke Verspieltheit ist weiterhin

auf dem Rückzug, schlichte massive

Formen sind im Kommen. Naturhöl-

zer, klare Strukturen, Geflochtenes,

Erdtöne und natürlich gegerbtes

Leder vermitteln einen Hauch Afrika.
