the hamam at tenThe Hamam at Ten is a modern reinterpretation of the TurkishRoman hot air bathing ritual. It is a co-ed facility that can bebooked individually or enjoyed as a private party room requiringsix to twelve people.

Ten certificates are available for purchase seven days a week, 24hours a day from the front desk of The Fort Garry Hotel, onlinewith our door-to-door delivery service, or on-site.

what to expect...the hamam at ten is located within Ten Spa. Atreception you will be given a locker, Italian spa slippers, a plush Turkishrobe and a pestemal to wear during your hamam experience.

Prior to entering the hamam, a warm shower in our luxurious changerooms is recommended. You will then proceed to the tea room adjacent to the hamam where you will be offered Turkish tea and a small sweet to sustain you through your treatment.

Upon entering the hamam your first stop is the aromatic salting area,where you will self apply warm aromatic salt while seated on a heatedbench. This area is somewhat warmer than the next resting station; its purpose is to get you perspiring and to start your cleanse.

After 10 to 15 minutes, the hamam attendant will rinse you off and guideyou to the large communal heated marble platform where the ritual con-tinues. Take your time, break for more tea or water and relax for the next30 to 60 minutes. If you have booked Intro to Hamam, Hamam 101+ orHamam Fully Loaded this stage includes a foot and scalp massage by thehamam attendant. There is also a seating area equipped with a number ofwash basins from which you can fill your tas and pour hot, warm, cool orcold water (to your liking) over yourself.

If you have booked Hamam 101+ or Hamam Fully Loaded, at the appropri-ate time an attendant will escort you to your private treatment bed forthe traditional soap scrub. All soap scrub treatments include gommage withkese followed by a head-to-toe olive oil soap scrub down.

Whether you continue with a stretching and/or rose oil massage or not,you will not believe how clean and rejuvenated you feel. As you relax post-treatment and enjoy your ayran beverage, you will already be thinking ofyour next visit.

glossary…pestemal -This is the large fringed cotton wrap you will be given upon check in. Women wear it wrapped around their torso and men wear it around their waist. The pestemal is the dress code for the Hamam at Ten. tas - The bowl used to pour water over the body. Warm, cool and cold water may be used. marble slab -The central focus of the Hamam at Ten is the heated marble slab where the massage and gommage is performed. gommage -Full body exfoliation with a cloth kese performed by our Hamam attendants. kese - The rough cloth mitt that is used to scour and exfoliate your skin during the gommage. sabun - The pure olive oil soap that, in addition to its curative properties, delivers an abundant lather that will be used to cleanse and massage the skin. aryan - a salty yogurt drink that is served as your treatment draws to a close. The beverage helps to hydrate and restore electrolytes lost during your treatment.

the story…The hamam hot air bathing ritual was one of the most important pillars of the social life of the Ottoman Empire. Far more that a simple place of bathing, the Hamam was a sanctuary where men and women gathered to be renewed.

On a day to day basis pilgrimages to the hamam would take place. The Turkish hamam is home of the tradition of physical and spiritual purification. As the body and skin are cleaned and purified from toxins, blood circulation increases and the immune system is stimulated supporting one, both physically and mentally. The Hamam at Ten Spa reawakens this lost cleansing and rejuvenating ritual. Ten’s Hamam rituals are performed by expert therapists trained in the secrets of Hamam. You’ll be thinking about returning before you even leave... what to expect… Upon arrival you will be guided into our luxurious change rooms where you will change into spa sandals, a pestemal wrap and a plush Turkish robe. You are encouraged to take a warm shower prior to your treatment. The Hamam attendant will bring mint tea to the Hamam lounge where you will begin to warm up in preparation for your ritual. You will also be served house made Turkish Delight as a way of preparing and sustaining you during your time in the Hamam.

You will then be guided by your attendant through the Intro to Hamam, Hamam 101 or Hamam Fully Loaded rituals. As your treatment draws to a close you will be escorted to our quiet lounge to rest. Aryan, a salty yogurt beverage will be provided to help your body rehydrate.
