Hammanskraal and its surrounding areas are impatiently waiting for cheaper means of commuter transport with Transnet as the only current option. Although the issue of ferrying commuters to work by train is still in the pipeline, people started wondering if it would be possible or safe after a goods train toppled near the bridge in Hammanskraal.

The incident took place on Saturday morning 03 October when the said train from the Pretoria side passed the station only to overturn some of the carriages. It was apparent that the fault was neither with the operation personnel nor the mechanical aspects but the rail road. Eye witnesses told Hammanskraal News they heard the usual hooting, the thud, screech-scratch and banging of steel. They explained that they could smell burnt metal from some distance. They added that fl ames emanated from some of the carriages that were derailed in the course of the incident. One employee (not to be mentioned) said that some anchors (metal that attaches the rail to concrete) had been removed.

Onlookers further told Hammanskraal News that the carriages carried yellow granules that were combustible and immediately started burning. On the other hand, the overturning led to some of the granules from opened sacks to be spilled onto the area nearby.

The fi re extinguishers were swift in rushing to put out the fi re. The train had two engines of which the second one sank to the right, possibly causing the carriages that followed to lose track and smash against each other.

During the incident, approximately twelve carriages had been seriously damaged. Some wheels were detached and could be seen on the eastern side of the rail road. Some of the carriages were turned to face the western side. Pieces of steel and rail could be seen at intervals near the scene and were immediately collected as they are popular for scrap yard sale. Some of the said material like springs was reportedly found hidden in tall and thick grass.

Spoornet personnel of different portfolios had been deployed to the scene of the incident to try and fi nd an answer to what caused the train to topple. The fortunate part of the scenario is the realization that the personnel in control of the rail vehicle (a man and a woman) were reportedly neither harmed nor injured. One question that was posed was if it was a passenger train then, how many casualties and injuries could have been sustained. The rail road was unusable for the whole weekend up to some days thereafter. It was noted that the deployed employees were still busy with removing the damaged carriages on a Monday after the accident.

The mishap had caused serious panic to some of the prospective Transnet commuters as to their safety on the rail road to their work places and back home. On the other hand, the issue of guarding the railroad steel material against metal poachers for a better ferrying of passengers and goods was also mentioned. Another burning issue for the spectators was how effective and consistent would the train be for their timeous arrival at work. On the other hand, others blamed busses and taxis for over speeding and over loading.

Kgantiti’s upper left arm that had been scorched with an electric iron. She never visits the clinic even when she had been badly beaten.

The whole of South Africa and the world at large contin-ues to cry out against the abuse of women and children. Still, there are men who continue to molest women and treat them badly. A woman was bruised with a baton across her right upper arm for three heads of chickens a week ago near Bosplaas north.

A source related that Elizabeth Kgantiti was left with a few bruises on her left upper arm after being attacked with a baton. The victim (Kgantiti) concurred that the incident happened over a weekend about a fortnight ago. She told Hammanskraal News that they had a wonderful weekend where they spoilt themselves to al-coholic drinks. While her boyfriend was smoking dagga he demanded: “Give thanks”. She explained that her boyfriend had a lot to drink, went home and ate all that was left in the pot including the three chicken heads that evening. The lass said that she was just wrong when she asked why he did not leave some for her and their daughter. She said all hell broke loose after asking and she was hit with clenched fists until she fell to the floor.

Kgantiti was in tears when she told the Hammanskraal news that this was common behavior for her boyfriend. She explained that the same thing happens over and over again after he had taken too much alcohol. She added that the man augments the intoxication with puffs of marijuana (dagga) and becomes a different person altogether. “He becomes a bully, unreasonable, abusive and neither listens nor heeds warning from anyone. Kgantiti said that at times he beats her until she loses consciousness. She stated that at times she would be kicked and stamped on with both feet.

She said that her boyfriend burnt her with a red hot iron across the left upper arm (directly from the fire). The vic-tim said that it bothered her to such an extent that she nearly called for the police. Asked why she did not do just that, she responded that her children would starve because Jakobus, the abuser, is the bread winner. She relayed that she is used to this kind of life and sometimes longs for the beatings and abuse. She further stated that she at times would deliberately cause her boyfriend to become angry so that he should beat her up. Kgantiti stated that she never visits the clinic after an attack.

Jakobus Thunngwa, Kgantiti’s boyfriend said that he can only feed one child. He explained that he acknowl-edges the youngest child (1 year old) as his own and not the elder one (4). He said that he would work hard for the welfare of his flesh and blood but will NEVER do anything for the first born. Thunngwa braggingly said that his girlfriend would not lay charges against him since she is lazy. He admitted that he might kill her but enjoyed beating her up. The couple spends most of their time in a drinking spree after payment from his job (sell-ing meat from door to door) as well as money from her (Kgantiti’s) child support grant.

Worst of it all is when the lady stated that her children would not attend a nursery school because she cannot afford it. On the other hand, Kgantiti is not prepared to enlist the children for free food supply from the clin-ic. She said that nurses talk bad about people and that other workers at the clinic are gossipers. Kgantiti’s prog-ress on self-rehabilitation from drinking and financial management are still to be monitored and reported. She is adamant to be “dealing with the problem and that her boyfriend is not bad at all”. The worst case scenario is that the child support grant is used to pay debt for alco-holic beverages. The nearest members of the communi-ty policing forum street committee are aware of the mat-ter and promised to deal with it as a matter of urgency.

Temba youth embarked on a social endeavor to bring hope to people across the age restriction limit. They have formed a movement that in their opinion would keep everyone on their toes with performances in music, poetry and comedy. They said that they intend to cover the arts in its bigger spectrum with Intimate Arts

Koketso Mophahlane (marketing), Goitsemang Mothobi (chairperson) and Bridget Mahlangu (spokesperson) form the inner executive center of the company. Mothobi told Hammanskraal News that the company wishes to include everyone who has a passion for art.

He elaborated that they would like to give people hope in the arts and respect art, especially the indigenous arts. He explained that their company covers even the arts that they do not have expertise in as they would employ knowledgeable people to advance their talent. “Boredom is the key factor to many of the unoccupied youth and elderly people alike”, commented Mothobi.

Miss Tlhomolang Thato said that she loved the way the youth expressed their feelings in music and comedy. She stated however, that the most important thing is for the participants not to be money focused as it would create a major problem within their relationships. She further said that arts had been and still is a way of communicating someone’s experiences and

thoughts. She relayed that she relished that the participants knew their “thing” and were comfortable with what they said with emotions to hammer the nails home. “This is important towards communicating and the dissipation of thought and information,” Concluded Thato.

Like any other emerging and youthful business, Intimate Arts also have its challenges. The executive stated that they have serious fi nancial diffi culties. They voiced in unison that they need equipment of their own as hiring takes more out of their coffers.

They mentioned that their worst nightmare at this juncture is accommodation as they rotate to rehearse from their homes. Although the group intends to start small to grow big, they are faced with escalating travelling costs that are coupled with renting the equipment they would need for a particular show.

Goitsemang Mothobi said that the youth that participate in their shows always ask for more time. He promised that they would link some of their performers with a fi lm industry like ACBA (Africa Culture Development Center) as a way to spread their wings in full fl ight. Mothobi said that they have a desire to employ local people and allow others to display their artifacts in their shows without making them pay.

He concluded that they are a determined youth that takes challenges as a stepping stone to a brighter future.

South Africa is part of those that endeavor to improve the status of its citizens and falls under the developing countries of the world. Every country has its own primitive ways of communication from word messages to letters, telegrams, landlines and cellular phones. Civilization and development have improved over the years and i College deems it fit to improve lives of Hammanskraal youth in technological skills. The college is situated in Hammanskraal, next to TAB (horse race betting) and Ned bank that is opposite the old bus rank. The institution had been operational in the country since 1985 and the Hammanskraal branch introduced in 2000. The need for informed people in IT was amongst all the others to open up a school of its incompatible level and stature. This institution is registered with the Department of Education, SETA (Sector Education Training Authority) in the country as well as in London.

The college had run numerous competitions whereby attendants have won prizes in vouchers ranging from clothing to food parcels. To add to the latter, two schools have already benefited from such an undertaking on Friday 03 October. Piet Mamabolo of Tshwaraganang Orphanage Home (unit 7, Temba) and Monjumonju Children Home Centre received clothing as donation from I college. The i college general manager Sylvester Hlatshwayo rubber stamped that the 40 learners’ 40% discount is a serious certainty. He said that learners should not panic and be assured that the institution is not a fly by night. He relayed that the number would be divided amongst four or five schools depending on the interest of the learners. “Everyone needs something better and it is time for learners and parents to save in education,” Hlatshwayo concluded.

The branch manager, Mr. Zama said that the school had been with some people who are working for various government departments “There is no foul play there”, concluded Zama.

Sports and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula says he is happy that more elderly citizens participated in the Big Walk this year to mitigate the increase of undesirable diseases.

“It is really good to see our elderly citizens participating in this event… such activities can help them keep healthy,” said Minister Mbalula. Minister Mbalula was speaking to Hammanskraal News 5th October 2014 on Sunday, during the Big Walk recreational event held by the Department of Sports and Recreation South Africa (SRSA) in Pretoria.

“It is also good to see thousands of young people participating in such events and enjoying themselves,” said the minister. The Minister said the Big Walk initiative is growing well nationally, and it happened in all nine provinces of South Africa. “We must do this regularly and get communities out there to participate in such activities because in that way we are contributing to longevity of live,” he said. “The walk was awesome. Yesterday I finished five kilometres at the OR Tambo Liberation Walk and today it was the 7.5 kilometres. This is good, nobody can touch you… healthy lifestyle in action,” he said. The event took place on World Walking Day, 5 October, at the Fountains Valley Resort, Tshwane. It was organised for everyone and promoted the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle.

“I do this because I want my body to stay strong and healthy. I will do it every time if I have to,” said Ms Sarafina Mathebula from Daveyton . Mathebula said in her community there is a lady who gathered elderly women and trained them on various sporting codes. “Exercising is not foreign to me… I have been a member of a team of elderly citizens who exercise in my community for three years now,” she said. Mathebula encouraged other elderly persons to exercise, saying it will help them manage their chronic diseases like hypertension and sugar diabetes.

“… Even when your body was weak and always in pain, everything becomes alright when you exercise,” said Mathebula, who is a pensioner. “Back in my school days I was an athlete, but it became difficult for me to maintain the athlete spirit when I started my job, hence I decided to join the aerobics team four months ago,” said Katlego Mthinumye from Manyeleit, Temba who also participated in the walk. The 32-year-old said young people who are not actively involved in sporting codes missed out on many things and could easily be trapped in criminal activities or get infected by diseases. “Our government is trying so much to do many things for the benefit of our youth. This is also a nice platform for youngsters to socialise and network… they could come up with ways to benefit their communities and themselves, or even think of ways to create jobs through sports,” she mentioned to Hammanskraal News.

Although hotly disputed by many widely respected medical organizations, the link between breast cancer and abortion has been strongly upheld by a number of recent studies in South Asia.

Women from this part of the world generally have few risk factors for breast cancer, because they usually marry early, have many children, breastfed them all and do not drink, smoke or take “the pill.” The introduction of abortion has, however, led to a 450% increase in breast cancer – according to 12 recent studies.

Medical organizations like the National Cancer Institute in the US, which dispute the link between abortion and breast cancer, generally agree, however, that breast cancer is more likely in women who have given birth to babies after less than 32 weeks of pregnancy, who have late first pregnancies, have miscarriages between three and six months or are childless. This lends credence to the Lanfranchi-Fagan review, in which Angela Lanfranchi, MD and Patrick Fagan, Ph.D explain why abortion causes breast cancer.

During early pregnancy, the expectant mother’s body is prepared for breastfeeding – high levels of oestrogen encourage the growth of Type 1 and Type 2 lobules in the breasts, which is where most cancers start. By the time her pregnancy has passed the 32nd week, however, these lobules have become Type 4 lobules, which are “permanently cancer-resistant.” The Lanfranchi-Fagan review is a scientific study of 72 surveys done over a period of fifty years in many countries and various cultures, yet it is widely disputed by those who say that studies proving a link between abortion and breast cancer suffer from “recall bias.” In other words,

they claim that the subjects of the studies without breast cancer “forgot” about their abortions. Lanfranchi and Fagan, however, say that the recall bias theory has never been proved. They also point out that many studies claiming to disprove a link between abortion and breast cancer are flawed, because – among other things – they exclude the women most likely to contract breast cancer. These are women who have had abortions in their second trimester, before their first full-term pregnancy, while under 18 or over 30 and those who have a family history of breast cancer.

Since abortion on demand became legal in South Africa on 1 February 1997, 50 000 unborn babies have been killed each year in their mothers’ wombs. How many of their mothers will die of breast cancer?

Coach Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba is on his way to making South African football history by qualifying two different national team divisions for two major continental football competitions (African Youth Championship 2015 and African Cup of Nations 2015) in the same year.

Shakes started by guiding the u/20 national team and played a vital role in qualifying the Amajita for the African Youth Championships to be played in Senegal from 8 to 22 March 2015. During the Under-20’s journey to qualify for the tournament finals, they played against the conti-nent’s football powerhouses, including Cameroon, Bur-kina Faso and Mali. However, the home team was not intimidated by the opposition and ultimately qualified for the African Youth Championship. Meanwhile, as the football gods were smiling for Shakes and his charges, Bafana Bafana’s demise was crippling the once mighty senior national soccer team. SAFA replaced Coach Gordon Igesund in an attempt to get Mashaba’s most sought after magic charms to revive the fortunes of the Bafana team. Mashaba then shocked

football fans when he benched the experienced national team players and fielded novice players who repaid their mentor’s confidence in them by walloping Congo 3-0 dur-ing Shakes’s first assignment. Mashaba stated recently that of late the national soccer team had become a laughing stock and lost credibility within football circles. He added that restoration of the team’s image is of great importance and revival of the na-tional team’s pride is high on his agenda. On his second assignment, Bafana removed the stigma of being domi-nated by Nigeria and played to 1-1.

The home team has so far collected four points in two games - they are two points behind Congo, which is sit-ting on six points. Mashaba has announced that he in-tends to collect six points against Congo in the next two games to be played during home and away matches within seven days, to secure a space in the AFCON finals in Morocco 2015. The home team still has a date against Nigeria and Sudan. If coach Mashaba gets six points in two successive matches against Congo, he will be the first South African coach to qualify two national teams in two different continental competitions within one year. Coach Ephraim Shakes Mashaba to make history.
