ASYE Role Profile The type of work allocated to an NQSW should reflect the requirements of the

PCF at the ASYE level. By the end of the ASYE social workers should have consistently demonstrated practice in a wider range of tasks and roles, and have become more effective in their interventions, thus building their own confidence, and earning the confidence of others. They will have more experience and skills in relation to a particular setting and user group, and have demonstrated ability to work effectively on more complex situations. They will seek support in supervision appropriately, whilst starting to exercise initiative and evaluate their own practice. ASYE - PCF level indicator

NQSWs should have an appropriate work load relative to their time qualified, their skills knowledge level and experience. This will require careful case load management and reduction by the supervisor and / or line manager.

This work load management is crucial to enable the NQSW to have time to reflect on and transfer their knowledge from training into the work place and develop their resilience and confidence in the role .

It is expected that the NQSW will slowly develop and increase their caseload during the year.

By the END of the ASYE year the NQSW will be have a 90% caseload compared to experienced social workers.

Irrespective of the individual progress in the development of their caseload, NQSW should always have a 10% reduction to enable them to carry out ASYE related learning.

The line manager is responsible for ensuring that the Record of Support and Progressive Assessment (RSPA) documents how they will manage the work load reduction and allocation process during the ASYE year. This should be reviewed at each formal review meeting. The line manager is also responsible for ensuring the final assessment in the RSPA summarises how they have managed the NQSW’s workload.
