Specifies a configuration file for using apreconfigured setup

The file must be in regular ini file format.

The specified name is interpreted by the in-stallation program as relative to the installa-tion directory. If the installation kit is locatedon a read-only file system (for exampleDVD), specify the absolute path to the con-figuration file.

--configfile=<file_name>

Displays the list of installation options-h--help

Specifies a virtual host name

If this option is not specified on the commandline, the value is taken from the entry Hostname in the file <instdirectory>/install/installation.ini(UNIX) or <instdirectory>\install\installation.ini(Windows), if present.

Default: system host name, as returned bythe operating system command hostname.This is generally the computer name withoutdomain suffix.

-H--hostname=<host_name>

Displays available software components andtheir versions-l--list_packages

Displays a list of the installed SAP HANAsystems, clients and studio on the host--list_systems

Suppresses the installation of debug pack-ages--no_debug_packages

4.1 Available Clients on Linux

When you install the client software package, the following clients are installed:• SQLDBC• ODBC• JDBC

To install the SAP HANA database client software:1. Download and extract the software to an empty directory.2. Open a root shell and go to the directory where you unpacked the software.3. Call the program hdbsetup (GUI installation) or hdbinst (command-line installation) by entering one

of the following commands:

4. Follow the instructions displayed by the installation tool.5. For the environment of users that will use the client, including the user <SID>adm, set the environment

The installation is logged by the system. There are two log files written during installation:• *.log: can be read using a text editor• *.msg: XML format for the display in the installation tool with the graphical user interface

5.3 Installing the Client on Windows

You are logged on as a local administrator.

To install the client software on Windows:1. Download and extract the software to an empty directory.2. Open a command prompt and go to the directory where you unpacked the software.3. Call the program hdbsetup (GUI installation) or hdbinst (command-line installation) by entering

one of the following commands:

You can omit the call option -a client if you only have one installation kit - that is, one installationvariant - on your system.

4. Follow the instructions displayed by the installation tool.5. Set the PATH environment variable to the installation path.

Uninstallation of the Client

Each installation has its own uninstallation tool.

Use the hdbuninst program of the software package for which you want to uninstall the client software.

6.1 Uninstallation on Linux

6.1.1 Uninstallation on Linux in Interactive Mode

You are logged on to the host where the client software is installed.

You are logged on as the root user.1. Open a root shell and go to the directory where you unpacked the software for this installation.2. Enter the following command:

./hdbuninst

3. Enter the ID of the client software installation and press Enter.

The client software is removed from this host.

6.1.2 Uninstallation on Linux in Batch Mode

To call the hdbuninst program in batch mode, specify the installation path of the client software usingthe –path option.

If you omit the installation path, the program does not run in batch mode but instead queries theinstallation ID.1. Open a root shell and go to the directory where you unpacked the software for this installation.2. Enter the following command:

6.2 Uninstallation on Windows

You are logged on as a local administrator.
