Letter from the Secretary General

Dear participants of DISTDD 2017,My name is Riccardo Tadei and I am a fifteen years old student of Deledda International School here in Genoa. I am extremely honoured to serve as this year’s DIS TDD Secretary General. Over the past years I’ve participated to various MUN Conferences in different countries while this project has enriched both my general culture and the way I think and react to our days’ global issues. This year’s DIS TDD main theme is “Atomic Energy”, which is quite a “daily” topic as we sometimes hear news about new uses of nuclear energy. On the other side we hear too much about nuclear energy used for bellic reasons. Our DISEC and ENVCOM commissions will work to produce resolutions of the highest standards. Furthermore, I am sure that my Executive Team is working day by day to organize a wonderful event for our school and for our community. Please feel free to contact me for any doubts or questions you may have. I cannot wait to welcome you all in Genoa for our DIS TDD 2017 while I wish you all the best. Yours faithfully,Riccardo Tadei DIS TDD 2017Secretary General “Without trust, we cannot face the difficult challenges in our world today” Antonio Guterres UN Secretary General

Letter from the Under Secretary General

Dear Deledda International School Two Days Debate 2017 participants, I am Tommaso Calcagno, and I will have the pleasure to serve as Under Secre-tary General of this event. I currently attend 9th grade at Deledda International School, in Genoa. Since I first came to this school, back in 2013, I’ve been in-terested in any kind of international relations. In 8th grade my interest for di-plomacy stepped up as my M.U.N. carreer started. Since then I have attended a total of 9 M.U.N. events, of which 3 THIMUN affiliated conferences. My path in this wonderful project didn’t just focus on my career, as I’ve also been an acti-ve member of my MUNclub, working on it with commitment and collaborating with my colleagues. The result was a high increase in the number of participan-ts, which made our club grow, gaining more importance in the school context. Probably the most important thing I’ve done for my MUNclub was organizing the first edition of this wonderful event: DISODD 2017. DIS is an international IBO certified school, which, respecting the IB learner profile, teaches its studen-ts how to be citizens of the world and lifelong learners. M.U.N., as a scholastic activity, is considered very important for the reaching of the school’s goal. The topic delegates will be discussing during this conference is very interesting and is many times seen as one of the most dangerous and pressing issues in the modern world. The delegates’ ability to negotiate in order to come to the best conclusion is fundamental in a discussion such as the one about atomic energy. I hope that this debate will be another success to add to the long list our MUNclub already has achieved.I sincerely wish you a fruitful debate. Best regards

Honourable MUN Directors,Fellow Delegates, Esteemed Executive Board colleagues and Distinguished Guests,

I welcome you all to the first edition of Deledda International School Two Days Debate. I am Edoardo Pero, I’m 15 years old and I live in this beautiful city which hosts DISTDD 2017,Genoa.I’ve been part of the DIS MUN Club since 2015,when I did my first MUN conference. My knowledgeable and critical thinking skills as well as the wish to know more about what happens in the world every day have grown a lot since my first MUN conference. Ever since, I have participated to 4 THIMUN affiliated conferences, uncountable one-day debates, such as the one hosted by Deledda International School ODD 2017.This year I have the honour to serve as President of General Assembly and Main Chair in the DISEC committee. Finally I wish you all a fruitful debate and a wonderful stay in our city. Thank You Sincerely, Edoardo Pero President of GA DISEC Main Chair

Letter from the Heads of Press

Dear participants of DISTDD 2017, We’re Emma Ghelfi and Elena Russo Delmonte, the two heads of press. We are 15 years old and we live in Genoa, we both have been studying at DIS since MYP1, in the far 2014. We’ve joined the MUN club more than one year ago and have attended to several debates and MUN affiliated conferences. Since the very first months of our career as delegates we were also part of the press team, putting loads of effort into writing articles for the School newspaper and website. When the time came for electing the new Executive board, after the success of DIS ODD 2017 in April 2017 we immediately took the decision in becoming heads of press: we fought hard to have the opportunity to cover this important role together and we managed to do so. Now we are just in charge of a very well functioning press team made up of very talented and interested young students from our school. We are both working hard both in the management, sorting and production of the press material. Our team is in charge of articles, our official website, the pages on social media, the logos, all the design- related aspects of the organization of the debate, photos, during the conference our team will communicate with all the delegates. We collaborate with the Executive board every day to carry out this project. We are very excited of what is ahead of us and strongly hope and believe that the debate organized by our school will please and improve every attendant. If you want to join our Press Team or for any other doubt or interest other members of the executive board and us will answer at the address [email protected]. We wish you a pleasing and fruitful debate.

Yours faithfully,Emma Ghelfi and Elena Russo Delmonte DISTDD 2017Heads of Press 9

Letter from the Heads of Staff and Security Dear participants of DIS TDD 2017,We are Bianca Fasciani and Giovanni Massa and we are honoured to have the opportunity of being the Heads of Staff and Security of this year’s con-ference.We are fourteen and fifteen years old students living in Genoa attending MYP4 and that have been studying at the Deledda International School of Genoa since MYP1.Bianca has joined the MUN Club more than two years ago, while Giovan-ni has been participating for a year and an half. Bianca has participated to three Thimun affiliated conferences and was DIS ODD 2017’s Head of Finance and chair while Giovanni has participated to one Thimun affiliated conference. We are looking forward to organizing, together with the rest of the Exe-cutive Board, a pleasant and fruitful conference. We believe that being a staff or security member is a good way for younger students to get started with the MUN career and see how a debate works and maybe pursue a future career as delegates or even chairs. As a consequence we are plea-sed to serve as links from a passion, which could be for debating, public speaking or even global issues solving, of the students, to an actual reali-zation. We strongly believe in the importance of our role and this is what will motivate us to do the best job that we can as Staff and Security Heads and as part of the MUN Club of Deledda International School. We are in charge of stimulating interest in MYP2 and MYP3 students to take part of the conference as Staff or Security members and we also take care of the arrangement of the halls in which the conference takes place. Therefore, we strongly and enthusiastically wish you all a fruitful debate and we hope you will be able to create some unforgettable memories and memorable experiences in our DIS TDD conference. Yours faithfully, Bianca Fasciani and Giovanni Massa Heads of Staff and Security DIS TDD 2017 10
