Handmade Swaddle BlanketFinished size: Approximately 43"–46" square

We love making our own swaddles for gifting. You can choose your own colors and prints and please a new mom with your hands-on loving care! We like to make these in threes or fours, then roll and tie each one with a pretty ribbon. You’ll find swaddling instructions on the back of this handout and in the Free Projects on our web site. Print a copy and include it with your gift.

MATERIALS1⅜ to 1½ yards of 52"-wide 100% Cotton Double Gauze5–6 yards of Cotton Bias Binding (optional)

MAKING THE BLANKET1 Pre-wash your fabric; this reduces shrinkage after

your swaddle is finished. To further reduce shrink-age, you can machine wash cold and hang to dry. (But, let’s face it, most moms are busy and will want to machine wash and dry! Be sure to pre-wash your fabric with whatever method will be used when the swaddle is washed after using for baby.) If you have chosen to use bias binding, pre-wash it, too.

2 After pre-washing, cut a strip off your fabric leaving a square piece for your blanket. Hint: You can stitch the strip into a great infinity scarf for the new mom or yourself!

3 Hem all edges of the blankie square with a ½"-wide double-rolled hem.

4 If desired, cover all edges with bias binding and stitch close to edge of binding.

Wrap with love and watch for smiles!
