    Handrail Standards (Tubular)

The ASD metal services tubular type standards are manufactured in varying heights and angles to suit single, double or multi-ball handrails. The balls are drilled tosuit the appropriate handrails or can be fitted with eyes for chains. The handrail balls can be drilled to take grub screws, which will ensure that there is no

    movement when assembled.

We offer the full range of bases as illustrated below. We emphasise that the type of base should be chosen with care to ensure suitability when attaching to thestructure. It may be that a large sized base is required when fixing to lower density material e.g. brickwork, blockwork or concrete. The size and spacing of fixing

anchors into these lower density materials needs careful consideration. There is an optimum requirement for fixings and exceeding this may weaken rather thanstrengthen the handrail system.

Loadings. (Tubular)BS5395: Part 3 recommends that the following minimum design imposed lateral loads that should be used for handrails in industrial situations:

    1) Light duty Access limited to 1 person 0.36 kn./m

Light access Gangways 600mm wide 0.22 kn./m2) General duty Regular two way pedestrian traffic 0.36 kn./m3) Heavy duty High density pedestrian traffic 0.74 kn./m

    Escape Routes 0.74 kn./m

    Crowded areas 3m wide 3.00 kn./m

    Handrail Standards (Solid)

Solid forged handrail standards can be supplied to suit customers requirements. Whether it be one, two or even three ball standards or even different ball centres

we can facilitate these in the manufacturing process. The standard centres are usually 500mm or 550mm but variations such as 420mm, 450mm or even 533 can

    be acceptable.

FinishFinished handrails can be supplied in the following finishes.
