*Advent Response Congregation
Leader: How shall we prepare this house for the coming of the King?
People: With branches of cedar; the tree of royalty.
Leader: How shall we prepare this house for the coming of the eternal Christ?
People: With garlands of pine and fir; whose leaves are ever living and ever green.
Leader: How shall we prepare our hearts for the coming of the Son of God?
People: By hearing again the words of the prophets, who foretold the saving work of God.
Leader: For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.
People: Glory to God in the highest!
Leader: Let us pray: Loving Father, who has brought us again to this season of Advent, we wait in anticipation for the birth of your son, Jesus of Nazareth. Open our hearts that we may joyfully welcome him. Open our lips that we may truly sing with uplifted hearts, “Glory to God in the highest,” and on earth peace among all people with whom you are pleased. Amen.

Carol O Little Town of Bethlehem ST. LOUIS
1. O little town of Bethlehem, 3. How silently, how silently How still we see thee lie! The wondrous gift is giv’n! Above thy deep and dreamless sleep So God imparts to human hearts The silent stars go by; The blessings of His heav’n. Yet in thy dark streets shineth No ears may hear His coming, The everlasting Light; But in this world of sin The hope and fears of all the years Where meek souls will receive Him, still Are met in thee to night. The dear Christ enters in.
2. For Christ is born of Mary, 4. O holy Child of Bethlehem! And gathered all above, Descend to us, we pray; While mortals sleep, the angels keep Cast out our sin, and enter in, Their watch of won-d’ring love. Be born in us today! O morning stars, together We hear the Christmas angels Proclaim the holy birth, The great glad tidings tell; And praises sing to God the King, O come to us, abide with us, And peace to men on earth! Our Lord Immanuel!
The Proclamation of Good News
Leader: The Greenery has been hung! The candles are lit! People: The sound of our songs and words has filled the air. Leader: Our sanctuary has been transformed for the celebration of Christ’s coming. Let us dedicate all that we do and all that we are to the glory of the Father who sent his son, Jesus Christ, to be our Savior. People: “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, and good will toward all people.”
*Carol Angels We Have Heard on High GLORIA
1. Angels we have heard on high, 3. Come to Bethlehem, and see Sweetly singing o’er the plains: Him whose birth the angels sing; And the mountains in reply, Come, adore on bended knee Echoing their joyous strains. Christ the Lord, the newborn King. Gloria in excelsis Deo! Gloria in excelsis Deo! Gloria in excelsis Deo! Gloria in excelsis Deo!
2. Shepherds, why this jubilee? 4. See Him in a manger laid, Why your joyous strains prolong? Whom the choirs of angels praise; What the gladsome tidings be Mary, Joseph, lend your aid, Which inspire your heav’nly song? While our hearts in love we raise. Gloria in excelsis Deo! Gloria in excelsis Deo! Gloria in excelsis Deo! Gloria in excelsis Deo! *Postlude Mr. Council A Festal Fanfare J. S. Bach Arr. Van Denman Thompson
