Introduction and 1st Project Homeplace Maps Exploration ~ Atlanta, Georgia
Investigation of Design Principles in the Workplace
Mood Board
Homeplace Maps Project
Atlanta, Georgia
Freeways reach to connect city hubs, like nerve cell synapses making contact.
PG&E Visitor Center Thoughtful approaches to design
reduce our reliance on energy.
We use energy in buildings to
create sufficient light and to stay
thermally comfortable.
A model of a building by Le Corbusier
demonstrates the efficient use of sun shading.
The porches and panels reduce heat from the
low Indian sun while honoring window views.
How much light is needed for various areas
and tasks? Too much light can cause glare
and/or waste energy. A careful approach to
lighting enhances usability and efficiency.
Air quality is worth consideration for healthy
and environmentally friendly living.
Monitoring Carbon Monoxide and VOCs is
beneficial for us all.
The PG&E Visitor Center features
displays on environmentally sound
building projects. Examples include
features like natural wastewater
treatment, use of natural circulation
and light, and thermodynamic heating.

Three 3D Concept Models
Project 2: Collages
Textile pattern investigations with a map of Atlanta.
Layers Vineyard Weaving circles into streets
Project 2: Panels and Models
Based on collages of Maharam fabric and a map of Atlanta
Version 1
Cotton, Thread, Pencil and Walnut
Version 2
Pine, Screening, Ink
Incorporating thread and tulle to explore notions of
permeability and transformation.

Workspaces are gathered near windows for the inspiring flush of
natural light. Away from the windows and vistas are the conference
rooms for more intensive work and focused discussion. Areas for
socializing and casual work meetings intermingle, inviting
connection.

Reception Area Mood Board
Introduces the visitor to natural textures, notions of weaving and
permeability, and organic and classic shapes. The reception desk
is made of reclaimed wood and features lighting that reflects the
generation of solar power.
Workspace Mood Board
Demonstrates use of textile dividers, simple lines in workstation
design, and the comforts of live plants and ergonomic seating.
Flexspace, Kitchen and Lounge Mood Board
Mixture of textures and levels of permeability to create a sense of
being in nature. The relaxed vibe is an invitation to linger, to work, to
connect with colleagues.
