Welcome to Summer!Register at hanoverymca.org or call 717-632-8211

Hello Campers & Families!Summer is just around the corner and I am so excited to be back at the Hanover Area YMCA to redefine your kids’ Summer of ‘17. We have so much planned- new activities, new adventures, and new memories. Over the last few months, I have been working to build a great team of counselors, our goal is to provide a safe and fun environment for all our Campers and bring excitement and fun to each week of camp.

This summer, kids choose. We’re pushing limits and they’re gaining new experiences like never before. Campers will choose a different activity each week for the morning session of camp. In the afternoon, Campers will be able to choose daily between swimming, gymnastics, sports & games, or arts & crafts. Campers will also embark on interactive field trips and experiences to keep them thinking and learning throughout the summer.

We’re adding a new tool! We’ve set up a Remind app to allow us to quickly communicate to you as needed for information, updates, and emergencies. Simply download the Remind app through the app store and text @hanoveryc to 810-10.

If you need anything or have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us using the directory below. We look forward to redefining summer with the best summer camp ever!

Our Counselors. We recognize the quality of a counselor is critical to the success of camp. Only the most qualified individuals are selected based on experience, education, values, and the desire to work with children. All Counselors have PA State Police, Child Abuse, and FBI Fingerprint certifications. Counselors attend a pre-camp training which includes: CPR/AED & First-Aid, Child Abuse Prevention & Mandated Reporter, leading activities, guiding behavior, aquatic safety, canoeing & kayaking, and archery instruction. A ratio of 1 Counselor to 12 Campers is followed.

Positive Guidance. Counselors and coaches follow positive reinforcement guidelines and stress the use of the YMCA Character Development Values of Honesty, Caring, Respect, Responsibility & Faith. On occasion, Campers may need to be corrected for inappropriate behavior. Parents will be notified of inappropriate behavior by the Counselor /Coach and/or Director. Behavior Tracking Forms will be given to the parent/guardian for review and signature. These forms are to be returned within 24 hours. A parent/guardian conference with the Director may also be held to discuss behavior. Our goal is to provide a safe, enjoyable environment for everyone with your help. The YMCA will not tolerate stealing, swearing, bullying, violence, aggression, possession of weapons, drugs, alcohol or tobacco, vandalism or sexual harassment.

Weather. All summer camps will occur on schedule regardless of weather conditions. In the event of inclement weather, camps will be moved inside and the drop off and pick up locations will move to our gymnasium, in both North Hanover and Littlestown. Parents will be notified via the Remind app, but can also check Facebook for immediate updates, as well as on the main hanoverymca.org page.

Permission Slips. Permission slips are required of Campers age 11 or older who will be signing themselves out of camp at the end of the day.

Transportation. Please contact the Transportation Coordinator at 632-8211 if your child who is enrolled in extended camp care will not be riding the bus that day.

Whats A.C.E?! At the beginning of camp, your Camper will be assigned a group based on his/ her age. The A in A.C.E stands for Avengers (ages 4-5), C is for Challengers (ages 6-8), and E is for Evaders (ages 9-12). Camp Leaders are ages 13-16 and will be assisting Counselors throughout the summer. You’ll see this throughout the camp guide, as your Camper decides what A.C.E activity he/she wants to do for the week/ day! Below are typical days at Camp Hickory.

Hello Littlestown Campers!

Welcome to Summer Camp 2017!

Welcome back, old friends and welcome, new friends! We can’t wait for summer to start! A few things, this year, drop off and pick up for camp will be the Littlestown YMCA Gymnasium. Most of your activities will take place pretty close by at the Community Park located near the YMCA. We will utilize the pavilion for lunch, snacks, breaks, crafts, and other activities. If the weather is not in our favor, we’ll do activities inside the YMCA.

New this year! Littlestown Campers will participate in Camp Hickory field trips on Wednesdays or go to the Hanover YMCA for Adventure Days (see field trip & Adventure Days listed on page 7 in the “On The Go Adventures” section.)

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Campers will swim at the Littlestown Community Pool. Activities will alternate from week to week on Fridays. On odd weeks (Week 1: 6/5-6/9, Week 3: 6/19-6/23, etc.) Campers will go to Codorus State Park in the morning for Canoeing/Kayaking, followed by swimming at the North Hanover YMCA location. On even weeks (Week 2: 6/12-2/16, Week 4: 6/26-6/30, etc.) Campers will go to the Hanover Bowling Alley in the morning followed by swimming at the North Hanover YMCA location in the afternoon.

Please be sure to read all camp information and reminders to be prepared. We look forward to the BEST SUMMER EVER!
