History

Hansen’s IGA was purchased in 1987.

They opened so that people would not

have to drive far away to get groceries.

Goods or Services?

Hansen’s IGA sells cookies, cake

mixes, candy, fruit, ice cream, popsi-

cles, pizza, and other groceries. That

means they are a goods business. But

they also provide a service by deliver-

ing groceries if you can’t come to the

store.

Using Math

The people who work at Hansen’s IGA

have to know how much the food

costs. They have to be able to count

money correctly so they can give cor-

rect change. They also have to know

how many products to order.

Reading and Writing

People who work at Hansen’s IGA have to

read the boxes so they put the items on the

right shelf. They have to read on the com-

puter so they know they have the right

items. They have to read receipts. They

have to write lists of items to order and write

advertisements.

What If You Worked Here?

You would need to be able to read

and know the costs of products. You

would need to be able to do more

than one task at a time. They like to hire

people who are friendly and fast. You

would need to wear a special red shirt

with your nametag.

customers - a person who comes to the

business and buys products

goods - something that a business sells that

people buy

groceries - things you buy at a food store

items - any product that a business sells

products - Any item that is for sale at a

business

receipt - the small piece of paper that

shows what you bought

service - when you pay someone to do a

job for you

The Cashton Elementary First Graders

visited many places in order to learn

about the goods and services our com-

munity provides to the people who live

here. A huge thanks to all of the busi-

nesses we contacted who graciously al-

lowed us to visit and learn. If you have
