Mr Hanumanthappa hails from Kuppedahalli village of Banavasi, Sirsi Taluk of Uttara Kannada District. He is member of Ayyappa Pragathi bhandu group (year of formation 2006). After his association with Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural development Project ®, he developed special interest in agriculture research work and innovations. He borrowed Rs.14 lakh loan from the group for Agriculture development purposes. He started getting new varieties of seeds and cereals and tried it in his field with the guidance from agriculture officers and experts from the Agriculture department. Special achievement: He is a small land holder but, made a bigger name for extracting massive yield from the small holding. He has made his agricultural activity sustainable by cultivating more than seventy varieties of crops and the beauty is that he cultivates his land without any formal irrigation systems instead he utilizes rain water only. Mr Hanumantappa follows unique system of cultivation. He has drawn a proper plan for the optimum utilization of his small land holding under “Farm Plan “ scheme under Pragathi Bandu group. He also prepares a calendar for the agricultural works to be performed during the year. From June month onwards he engages himself in agri work preparing his land ready for cultivation, when monsoon touches the land, he tills the land by using the tractor and other agri implements. While seedling in nursery he uses completely organic manure. He uses scientific techniques for arranging the plantations in the field. He earmarked land like this: half acre for vegetable cultivation viz all sorts of vegetables. By this he is earning good income. He himself takes these vegetables to the market. half acre of land for cotton cultivation, one acre for jowar, one acre for ragi, one acre for paddy cultivation, rest of the land for green gram, black gram, ground nut, green nut, ginger, tamarind, onion, garlic, millets, red chili, pepper, tamarind and others. He has arranged field with one and half feet passage on both sides of which he has grown the beautiful flower plants. This added the beauty for his land. 280 varieties of dahlia flower, 30 colourful flowers, Suganda Raja flower, jasmine. Moreover he has created his land like “Agriculture center” with lots of information available for learners. He became a model in the area for many farmers. Many farmers visit the field of Mr Hanumanppa for study purpose. He himself fixes the prices for his crop and sells it locally in reasonable price. He believes that nobody should hesitate to sell their produces in the market. Everyone should be proud enough to sit in the market, sell the produce and get good price.
