Widely regarded as one of world's largest household and personal care markets, China maintained its strong performance in 2013 despite what analyst describe as an economic slowdown. Certainly, that had no effects on retail sales in the personal care sector, which rose 8.7% to RMB 274 billion (about $44 billion), or on household retail sales, which posted 11.7% growth to RMB 87.7 billion ($14 billion), according to Euromonitor International. Even stronger growth is expected from 2014 to 2018, as the sector benefits from growing disposable income and awareness of personal appearance among Chinese consumers.

Stricter regulatory standards as well as higher personal standards of better-informed and wired consumers will be among the challenges that all industry players will face in the future. This is a future where safety standards and regulatory requirements will be widely implemented, a future where cost-effective and sustainable solutions will be the “must have”, and a future where consumers are becoming more sophisticated and markets more segmented.

As such, products with greater quality & safety, sustainability and efficacy will be in higher demand in China. More specifically, huge growth is predicted for products targeting specific groups such as baby/child/teen, men, and aging consumers, as well as people with sensitive skin. In addition, products designed for today’s fast-paced lifestyle, such as multifunctional and on-the-go products, are also expected to do well in the increasingly demanding China market.

Trade Journals are the most effective media to build your company’s brand image

Purchasers in the manufacturing sector have more avenues to obtain information due to our multiple media environment. The buying process of purchasers is continuous including information search, information input, and processing to determine the final purchasing decision. In order to understand the influence of different media types on brand image and purchase intention, a recent study measured the important role of multiple media (trade magazines, industry websites, industry E-newsletters, and conferences).

The study collected data by conducting an Internet survey in China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam and the Phil ippines. Responses from 302 completed questionnaires were analyzed.

The conclusions of the study were as follows:

The media that is used, the information source & its trust worthiness play a significant role on the brand image. Simply put, if the medium is trusted, so is the brand being promoted.

A company’s brand image has the most significant influence on purchase intentions in the manufacturing sector.

Trade magazines and industry websites have the most significant influence on creating a company’s brand image. Other effective marketing tools are conferences.
